1. "over the past year." From the get go, they dont give a damn
(01.26.07)
Qaraqe you better read whats in your child's textbook and whats taught in your schools. "Over the past year", the palestinain society is corrupt at its core and a fake one at that. go to Jordan, go to Egypt because you are just risking your life living in Ramallah. YOU WANT PEACE WITH ISRAEL?!?!?! Have peace between your brothers shiites and sunis. P O S

3. incredible!
v n.y. ,   israel/boston   (01.26.07)
if, this article is true, it is indeed shocking! what mr. qaraqe is revealing is nothing but another palestinian ploy to endanger the lives of their children, abuse them for minetary gain and committ the most atrocious child abuse known to man. i thought using and encouraging their children to become suicide bombers and martyrs was amazingly beyond belief. but to use these same youth and children for economic purposes passes the line of normal reasoning. the idea behind this abuse has nothing to do with religion anymore. it is not allah motivated, occupation motivated, etc... it is motivated by desperation of a people whose leaders use them, steal from them, and fail them at every opportunity they get. shame on the palestinian government, if one call call a bunch of immoral thugs a government, for continuing the blame game while robbing their citizens blind and using them as pawn in a political struggle that has NO MEANING to most hungry and desperate palestinian on the street.
4. support for the palestinians
v n.y. ,   israel/boston   (01.26.07)
if i were a country aiding and sending billions of dollars to the palestinian authority, i would insist knowing where my money is going, how it is being used, where it is being used and by whom. sending cash to a government that is unstable and two faced is absurd. sending cash to a government that has not used A SINGLE PENNY OF IT THROUGH THE YEARS TO BUILD A PALESTINIAN INFRASTRUCTURE AND ECONOMY is absurd. sending money knowing that same money is used by thugs and militants against the palestinians' self determination and against israel is absurd. sendind billions to support a people that is not interested in self determination is absurd. prior to usa and europe as well as other arab countries sending billions of aid money which is either stolen or misused in the long run.....how about doing this? 1. send economic specialists and infrastructure specialists from around the world with goals of advancement in mind, armed with these billions of dollars to create an infrastructure and monitor how the cash is being spent over there. 2. send engineers, technology experts, etc....with this hard cash to teach the palestinians how to build rather than destroy. 3. send economists to create a better situation using the billions of dollars and to monitor it is spent on the right developments rather than arms and hate or stolen by the government. 4. have delegates work with the palestinian public and community representatives and ask them what their needs are and address these needs with aid money. do not just send money and say you are helping because you are in fact doing the opposit. money in the hands of a child or a thug who cannot control and govern his behavior and deeds is money ill spent. yes, the palestinian society has indeed deteriorated. but not because of israel. it is because their leaders leave them no choice! and no chance to move forward and improve the situation. i for one would like to see an itemized LIST OF ALL THE IMPROVEMENTS THAT THE AID MONEY WE SEND THEM PRODUCED. i bet no one can come up with any list or any improvement because there are none! so where is that money? what has been done using tghis money? show me! because if it was used, ever, the palis life wouldn't be as dire as it is now.
5. Mass child abuse!
DR ,   Florida, USA   (01.26.07)
Does the world not see that these poor children are being brainwashed, used as bombs and now this disgusting revelation??? Does Jimmy Carter still blame Israel for all these things? Peace will never be achieved with a culture that does this to their children.

7. Bethlehem CHRISTIANS Fear NEIGHBORS
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (01.26.07)
The JERUSALEM POST Jan. 25, 2007 Bethlehem Christians fear neighbors By KHALED ABU TOAMEH BETHLEHEM A number of Christian families have finally decided to break their silence and talk openly about what they describe as Muslim persecution of the Christian minority in this city. The move comes as a result of increased attacks on Christians by Muslims over the past few months. The families said they wrote letters to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, the Vatican, Church leaders and European governments complaining about the attacks, but their appeals have fallen on deaf ears. According to the families, many Christians have long been afraid to complain in public about the campaign of "intimidation" for fear of retaliation by their Muslim neighbors and being branded "collaborators" with Israel... "The situation is very dangerous," said Samir Qumsiyeh, owner of the Beit Sahur-based private Al-Mahd (Nativity) TV station. "I believe that 15 years from now there will be no Christians left in Bethlehem... Qumsiyeh, one of the few Christians willing to speak about the harsh conditions of their community, has been the subject of numerous death threats. His house was recently attacked with fire-bombs, but no one was hurt. Qumsiyeh said he has documented more than 160 incidents of attacks on Christians in the area in recent years. He said a monk was recently roughed up for trying to prevent a group of Muslim men from seizing lands owned by Christians in Beit Sahur. Thieves have targeted the homes of many Christian families and a "land mafia" has succeeded in laying its hands on vast areas of land belonging to Christians, he added. Fuad and Georgette Lama woke up one morning last September to discover that Muslims from a nearby village had fenced off their family's six-dunam plot in the Karkafa suburb south of Bethlehem. "A lawyer and an official with the Palestinian Authority just came and took our land," said 69-year-old Georgette Lama. The couple was later approached by senior PA security officers who offered to help them kick out the intruders from the land. "We paid them $1,000 so they could help us regain our land," she said, almost in tears. "Instead of giving us back our land, they simply decided to keep it for themselves. They even destroyed all the olive trees and divided the land into small plots, apparently so that they could offer each for sale." When her 72-year-old husband, Fuad, went to the land to ask the intruders to leave, he was severely beaten and threatened with guns. "My husband is after heart surgery and they still beat him," Georgette Lama said. "These people have no heart. We're afraid to go to our land because they will shoot at us. Ever since the beating, my husband is in a state of trauma and has difficulties talking."... www.jpost.com
8. Why does the West finance this chaos?
Tracy W   (01.26.07)
I can think of two reasons why this situation continues to be maintained and financed by the West: 1) The donor countries are totally stupid, or 2) The real goal is to create a scenario that will ultimately mean the demise of Israel. There is no attempt at demanding any accountability. They don't care if the money goes for weapons. They have even supplied Abbas directly with more weapons. And there is no expectation from other Arab countries to help Palestinians in any way. Why does the West accept migrants and students from Arab countries without demanding that their countries of origin open the doors to Palestinian immigration? The proper solution would have been to have the Palestinians absorbed by established Arab countries, particularly Jordan. Why doesn't anyone ever mention Jordan. Israel is a tiny country that has done all it can to keep others from destroying it. What is the West doing to solve the problem? They demand Israel to give up more land. That will solve everything in the Middle East, they say. And the West continues to avert their eyes from the reality that the Palestinian society will be totally unable to manage their own country and that their true goal is the destruction of Israel. Why does the West keep pushing for a second Palestinian country? Because once established, it will be a matter of months before Israel is obliterated from the map. That's what the West wants.
9. PLO and Israeli current leaders
Itzik ,   Haifa   (01.26.07)
The PLO thing was known to everyone for a very long time. Muslems, arabs or Iranians, always sand kids to check mine fields which is much less dengerous than jail in Israel. On the other hand, some of our leaders are not better. Sharon's family removed Jews from their homes in Gaza so that Sharon and his sons wouldn't go to jail for corruption. Which leaders are better? Barak wanted to build a huge house so he was ready to remove Jews from a big part of Jerusalem. Of course, PLO and Sharon/Barak were doing it for the "better common good", as they always say.

Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (01.26.07)
Recently an older man in his 50's, robbed a bank, then gave the money to the bank security guard, put his hands up and surrended, the judge asked him what is wrong, why'd he do that, the man answered, i'm too sore and tired to work, too young for pension, i have no money, no food, I'll get a warm bed, 3 meals a day and it's better than what I have now, this will be exploited more in the future as poverity rises and the line between rich and poor grows with the middle class being pushed to lower, watch for right wing governments to bring about capital punishment so they can make room in the jails for the lesser crimes, the justice system in any country can be exploited this way, and is a great method albeit you need many people to accomplish it, but it would work for legalising or lowering penalties of lesser crimes,

18. So maybe rather than imprisoning the kids, do this
Zvi ,   USA   (01.26.07)
Israel should put them in a separate school away from HAMAS operatives where they can learn to be decent people. The sending of kids to get arrested will immediately stop, because these families don't want normal kids. There are, of course, a few exceptions -- the families who send their kids to get arrested to stop them from being forced by terror groups to act as suicide bombers. Those families won't mind a bit if their kids get a decent background in being human beings instead of being indoctrinated by the Pal educational system.
19. An ailing society
Tracy W   (01.26.07)
It never occurred to me before, but now it doesn't seem so unthinkable to assume that some of those young suicide-bombers were persuaded to kill themselves out of concern for their families, knowing that there would be $50,000 or so reward paid by Saddam or others to their families in the aftermath. That's a substantial amount. I was always shocked to see interviews where their mothers expressed satisfaction with their sons' decision and expressed willingness to send even more of their children to become suicide bombers. For decades it's been routine for Palestinians to send their young kids to harass soldiers knowing fully well that their lives might be in danger. Animals will give their lives to protect their young. These people waste their children's lives for political and financial reasons. Palestinian society has become very sick, very warped, and the last thing they need is the responsibility of governing themselves.
20. Tracy # 19 "responsibility to govern themselves"

And it will be the last thing they will get if ever ,

Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (01.27.07)
Yes the society has become very sick. They are worse than animals are they not? If this piece of news is true, it only shows one thing: that life for these people has become unbearable. Not because they don't value it. Not because they have nothing to do but produce more children. But because they are sick and tired of living in these dire conditions. Because they are tired of being pushed and pushed away. Because almost every single talk back here expresses only contempt and hatred for them. So how can you be surprised that they are resisting in any way theu can? How can you be surprised that they are hating back? Tracy, these are poor but proud people who want to live in dignity but must live as 6th class citizens. You probably go to your workplace every day, live in a warm and safe environment, always have enough to eat. You cant begin to imagine what it is like for them. Their government is corrupt but the people are NOT. So please, you and others like you, stop making these stupid speculations and passing rotten judgment. Unfortunately, YNET only publishes talkbacks that do not distort or scratch the image of the Israeli state. Way to go YNET
22. Tracy, some of the suicide bombers were THREATENED into it
Zvi ,   USA   (01.27.07)
There are documented cases in which Palestinian teen-agers have been threatened and intimidated by terror groups and told that they and their families would be branded as collaborators if they didn't do it -- and that their families would be paid if they did. In at least one such case, a loving Palestinian mom insisted that her only son get himself arrested by the Israelis in order to stop this madness, then came forward and talked to the press. Does anyone remember this case, and can point to a reference? I may have messed up the details.

... than rural people throughout most of Africa. And still they continue to worship death.
25. #21 - Unbearable Life
Tracy W   (01.27.07)
I agree that life isn't good for Palestinians, but I don't agree that it justifies bad parenting. We can't rationalize the neglect and abuse of children, the brainwashing and poisoning of young minds with so much hatred (toddlers brandishing weapons), the condoning of children violence in the name of "resistance", the glorification of suicide bombers as youth models, and blame it all on their living conditions. (And the greatest irony of all is that you reap what you sow. If Palestine becomes a country, it'll be beset by factional killings and suicide bombers, and an economy that will never take off.) Other problems such as extreme violence, corruption, kidnappings, family abuse, oppression of women, all those things do not happen just because of poverty. They happen all over the Arab world, and before you correct me, Libneniyyeh, in many other places as well, but in some Muslim countries they seem to be part of the culture, they are sanctioned and difficult to change. Some customs, such as the oppression of women and theocracy, are based on Sharia law. Furthermore, they happen in countries where Muslims enjoy a decent standard of living. Muslims raised in the West have had the chance to learn how to resolve conflict in a peaceful, rational, democratic way, but they still condone or use violence as a way to make a point. You do not do Palestinians and Muslims in general any favors by justifying their failings and blaming Israel. Palestinians have had so many opportunities to become a country but they have chosen terror instead in order to destroy Israel. They have allowed themselves to be manipulated and used by other Arab interests, and that was their choice. As far as poverty is concerned, there has been a constant influx of money, some from Arab countries, but most of it from the West. Why is it that they have nothing to show for it? Why doesn't it reach needy families instead of going straight into the pockets of corrupt leaders or used to buy and stockpile weapons. Don't blame Israel for that. Palestinians elected Arafat and then Hamas to represent them, after all. I don't hate anyone, but I can't respect a culture where the desire to destroy Israel overrides any concern for their own children or their future. As far as talkbacks go, I can only speak for my own, and my comments target Muslims and Palestinians, but they also criticize the Israeli government, the Left, the Europeans, George Bush, the State Department, Christian anti-Semitism, and if there was the opportunity to discuss other issues on Ynet, I would also criticize all those who perpetrate unnecessary suffering on humans and other living creatures on this planet. You say that there is contempt and hatred on some of these talkbacks. Perhaps. But it's nothing like the venom that comes out of the Muslim media, the Mosques, and Palestinian leaders when speaking in Arabic. Now, that's real contempt and hatred, and Jews know it. And one last thought. Holocaust victims suffered infinitely more than any Palestinian. I don't know how familiar you are with this subject, but many survivors went through absolute hell and lost every member of their family. When liberated, those survivors had every reason to hate but instead they chose life and found partners, raised children, made a life for themselves. Many of them went on to become outstanding citizens, scientists, writers, advocates of peace and justice. Some of them are your Israeli neighbors and they do not want to hurt you or any other Arab. They just want to be left in peace in their tiny sliver of land and not to be under constant attack and harassment. They don't want to conquer or dominate. They just want to be left alone.
26. #22, Zvi
Tracy W   (01.27.07)
Yes, I'm aware of that. I remember the case of one Arab boy who had been working peacefully in Israel, then went to visit his family, where he was shamed by his peers and convinced to become a suicide bomber. I have no doubt that there is a lot of pressure put on youngsters on the part of their community. It's not the leaders that detonate themselves, it's almost always the young.
27. #21 They want to live in dignity? How about work.
(01.27.07)
Surely with all those billions lavished on them, those 'proud people' could have prodiced something, so why didn't they? To proud to work?
28. Going to lighten up this sad subject
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (01.27.07)
You insert names of your choice, but this is my joke, so I use my "names." Two Muslims boarded a flight out of London. One took a window seat and the other sat next to him in the middle seat.... Just before takeoff, a Marine sat down in the aisle seat. After takeoff, the Marine kicked his shoes off, wiggled his toes and was settling in when the Muslim in the window seat said, "I need to get up and get a Coke." "Don't get up," said the Marine, "I'm in the aisle seat, I'll get it for you." As soon as he left, one of the Muslims picked up the Marine’s shoe and spat in it. When the Marine returned with the Coke, the other Muslim said, "That looks good, I'd really like one, too." Again, the Marine obligingly went to fetch it. While he was gone, the other Muslim picked up the Marine’s other shoe and spat in it. When the Marine returned, they all sat back and enjoyed the flight. As the plane was landing, the Marine slipped his feet into his shoes and knew immediately what had happened. "Why does it have to be this way?" he asked. "How long must this go on? This fighting between our nations; this hatred of each other‘s religion; this animosity; this spitting in shoes and pissing in Cokes?"

No wonder the Palis are screwed up. Their kids hear, "kill Jews! They're your mortal enemies" one minute. The next minute, they're told to try and make it to that mortal enemy's jail for a better life. It's a wonder, they're not all schizoid. Well, never mind about that.
