Looking at the picture, the guy looks well fed!!! As you say, the ball is in Assad's court, but...does he have balls?
3. To right winger..
Rami ,   Nazareth   (01.30.07)
according to you, all the arabs want to destroy Israel, so how do you explain Peres being welcomed in an enemy Arab state which never recognized no had diplomatic relations with Israel
4. Arab Leaders are Always Eager for Israel to Negotiate with
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (01.30.07)
PA/PLO/Hamas terrorists. The U.S. EU UN, Russia and Arab leaders call the war against the Jews, the peace process.
5. #3 Have you ever been lied to your face?
(01.30.07)
6. Agent of Iran or not, HAMAS was elected
Persian CAT   (01.30.07)
in a free and open election. Israel is using the "agent-of-Iran" excuse to maintain aparthied alive in Palestine. Peres, who is a war criminal himslef, has no credibily and the "Emir" only reprents himself since he was never elected.

KMR ,   Middle East   (01.30.07)
10. Rami, because Peres is a fool and a traitor
Freejay ,   Israel   (01.30.07)
11. Rami, why do you think?
Micha   (01.30.07)
It's obvious why. To invite over your enemy and say, "Come on, talk with the guy. You know it'll be good for you." Yeah, make it look like all the other guy wants is to talk a bit, get a fair shake, you know, just to be buddies. That's all show. You know it. The world doesn't quite get it yet. The middle east is controlled by arabs/moslems. The fact is, the arab peoples don't like to see Jews in their midsts. You and others like you have been fed on the vile media there, the stories from your parents. My parents never taught lies. I look with my own eyes. i judge everyone on their own merits. So, try getting your brethren to accept a "heathen". Thanks much.
12. To #10 Rami - You are way out of line!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (01.30.07)
Peres might have a different agenda to you and the right and ultra right wing but he is not traitor and your statement is uncalled for and in fact defamatory. If you are looking for “traitors” then look in the direction of those who consorted with the enemy in the last Lebanese war and those that undermined the security of the state and still hide behind their Knesset Member’s immunity. I hold no candle for Shimon Peres but he has served this country for many years and while we might not always like what he does and says, he has earned the respect of most world leaders.
13. to ms. 7 I can't wait
Hetro   (01.30.07)
for the day the arabs give up and say we have too much land anyway and were just pigs because we are greedy bastards can't even get along with each other .Jews make the world a better place with all their cool toys.
14. The nazzis were also elected.
Micha   (01.30.07)
15. Maybe the Emir should negotiate with Al Qaeda!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (01.30.07)
It was nice to see Shimon Peres with the Emir. Unfortunately Channel 2 News did not let us hear Peres' reply to the Arab lady's question about the Arabs “forgiving Israel for the crimes committed in the territories”. I hope that Peres replied in the typical Jewish way - answer a question with a question which is how can Israelis and Jews forgive the Arab peoples for the murder and killing of more than 25,000 Israelis since 1948, murdering men, women and children for more than 100 years and siding with the Nazis in their attempt to exterminate the Jewish People? I hope that Shimon Peres pointed out to the Emir and his friends that Arab belligerence has all but destroyed the so-called Palestinian people (a creation of the Arab world as they are really Jordanians) but in spite of all the hatred and terror, Israel has survived, has a stable and thriving economy and is not going to disappear. The Emir might ask himself what the Middle East might have looked like if the Arabs had accepted Israel and had put their minds to building what could have been the greatest tourist and financial haven in the world. He might look at Lebanon and see that once again it is in ruins. He will remember what a great country it was until the insane hated of Israel by people like Hassan Nasrallah, the Asads and other heads of state brought war and devastation to the region. The Emir might also ponder the point that without Arab belligerence there would have been no Six Day War and thus no “Occupation” or, as some prefer to call it, “Liberation”.
16. Very presidential of Peres
Steve ,   USA   (01.30.07)
B"H He is taking world trips that Katsav had to cancel to appear presidential. Keep Itzik at home and let Peres travel around a bit. It makes more sense for the Presidential role to be less exposed, and for Peres to get the President's travel budget instead.
17. To: Persian Cat
Phil san Filippo ,   USA   (01.30.07)
obviously you're ignorant and in denial of history and the hard facts. Get over your hatred or be consumed by it....
18. Islamic Fundamentalism = CANCER
MickJ ,   San Francisco!   (01.30.07)
Bottom line: the US, as the world's police, must concentrate on solving the most pressing issue that the world faces - and that is: ISLAMIC FUNDAMENTALISM. We need to put a plan in place for eliminating regimes like in Iran (as a starting point) - then see if Syria, and Hezbollah in Lebanon don't fall in line. To this objective, the leader of the free-world (and any other brave nations who have enough guts to take a stance for the betterment of mankind) needs to announce that we will work to systematically eliminate terrorist states and are not afraid of the collateral damage it will surely cause; when we attack them and hit hard and heavy, in order to destroy their regimes. We should make it known that Iran is in our cross-hairs and that it would take a complete reversal in ideology and obedience from their regimes to prevent their destruction and the death of many thousands of their people. Of course, the Iranian mullahs would not choose peace or to save their people and stand down; so we would follow the plan and take-out their regime (and neutralize their army) with one swift and fierce bombing campaign [i.e. not a boot on the ground!] ...and this will be the starting point for stopping the spread of Islamic terror. Yes, it’s a difficult and harsh stance to take… but it’s necessary and it’s the path we must lead, if we are to prevent an apocalyptic world-war (which the Iranian regime is all too eager to start). We must continue and expand our efforts to topple Islamic fundamentalist regimes in the middle east and all regimes tolerant of terrorist-breeding ideology so they cannot spread their evil. Negotiate with Hammas? Please! Kill hamas - and anyone who supports them! But let's start with the Iranians... theat regime is a feeder to other islamic cancerous regimes and needs to be cut out!
19. #6 But did the Palestinians elect Meshaal? No, they didn't
Zvi ,   USA   (01.31.07)
Nobody wants to admit that Gaza has indeed been occupied since the Israelis withdrew -- by agents of Syria and Iran.
20. Rami
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (01.31.07)
A subterfuge game? Talk peace, prepare for war while the other side doesn't expect it, I think it's been used before. Even Churchill met with Hitler.
21. Persian Cat
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (01.31.07)
You are right for once, hamas was elected and is the governing party, so they are responsible for all attacks on Israel from any militant group residing in their territory, they are responsible for paying wages, creating infrastructure and jobs, and the overall security and livlihood of the palestinian people. Abbas was clean shaven, but Haniyeh has that beard, it must scruff up the a$$ of the western leaders, that's why they cut off the aid. Let the elected hamas create prosperity. How they doing with all that responsibility? Lots to purr about eh.
22. has anybody ever suggested to Hamas to be pragmatic ? (end)

23. This King is an Idiot
semsem ,   New York, USA   (01.31.07)
This King is clearly a fool. How can Israel talk to Islamic fanatics who want to destroy Israel.
24. #6 missing the point
affinity292 ,   nyc ny   (02.02.07)
Your argument seems to be that Israel refuses to negotiate with Hamas "b/c they are agents of Iran." Essentially, this Arabist argument is that Israel isnt' recognizing duly elected officials b/c they don't like them. This misses the boat and the point. They ARE elected. And their platform is genocide against Israel, refusal to recognize Israel's right to exist, and the declaration that any commitment / agreement with Israel is non-binding on hamas if they decide they don't like it. These are non-starters and the reason Israel isn't negotiating with them. And I think it is quite reasonable to expect the other party to not have genocide, refusal to honor agreements at whim as their platform before negotiations begin. Otherwise, what is there to negotiate?
25. #3
(04.21.07)
he's welcomed there for one and only one reason...to apply pressure on the israelis to talk to hammas, let hammas win this step and embolden them. applying pressure on israel to accept these barbarians and criminal thugs into israel is very fruitful for all arab states who in turn do not have to face the fact that all these countries do not want to absorb these thugs for the same reason israel doesn't. shoooting, terror and mayhem. no ruler, be it king, sheik, or president wants to deal with them knowing the thugs and civil unrest they can cause and possibly topple the regimes in those countries. so, israel, according to the arabs must pay the price arabs DO NOT WANT TO PAY.
