1. I uges Ms. Alon will ask for her money back
Persian CAT   (01.31.07)
Notice those characters in the sign are not offering anything ot anyone.
2. Influence of 200 million Muslims in India.
Tahl ,   Israel   (01.31.07)
Don't blame the Indians too quickly. Indians, in general, are nice, intelligent, peace-loving and wonderful people. In all likelihood, this ugly incident is the result of Muslim influence.
3. The picture
Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (01.31.07)
I don't see why the picture and the warning imply that it is a racist remark against the Jews (poisoning). It appears as though the Rabbi is teaching or reading from his book this instruction to his disciple or the other person.
4. Indian NDA-government would do anything to appease Muslims
KMR ,   Middle East   (01.31.07)
It is a racist sign. Please lodge a protest complaint to Indian Embassy in Israel
5. Shame on Indian Railway Authority.Remove that RacistSign now
Indian ,   Overseas   (01.31.07)
6. i don't think so...
713 ,   Seattle US   (01.31.07)
one of the men, looks asian... does that mean asian men will poisen you.... NO!!! This is a publicity stunt for this girl to get famous off of. We went through this whole thing in America... The question was: Should we change every sign in paranoia of offending someone... Well we answer "No" because every sign will eventually find someone that will be offended by it. You can really do nothing about it. Here is one for you. An African American sees an anti-gun sign that is painted with a black border. AAAHHHH that person must be racist AAAHHHHH. Or an Asian man seeing a smoking sign, and the artist made the eyes and facial features asian. Is the artist really racist. No is the answer for both of these, because if you answered yes, then what do you expect us to do. Just put white, atheist americans on EVERY sign there is??!??!? No, we will be labeled as racist if we do that!! "why don't you put minorities on you signs" etc, etc, etc, etc, etc,
7. Calm down
Lian ,   UK   (01.31.07)
One of the man in the picture could even be an Indian. I don't see why the Indian railways would have any racist intention. India never has anti-Semite feeling. There is no reason why it should. Here in the UK, the Indians were busy protesting against alleged "racist slur" on a Bollywood star in a reality TV show.

ok, come on... it shows two religious Jews (not Jewish-looking people, or asian-looking people) but religious people wearing well-known Jewish icons in front of plates of food and the text warns of poisoning. It's at best unfortunate and needs to be changed and at worst, blatant racism. I really doubt that this woman wants -- or will become -- famous -- for this. You cannot compare this to a black-colored border on an anti-gun sign. And you know it.
9. Racist Sign
Hypocritical ,   NY   (01.31.07)
Why the outcry, I thought this newspaper has the same hateful ideas of orthodox jews as this Indian sign.
10. I don't often agree
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (01.31.07)
with Libneniyyeh from Lebanon , but she may have a point. It is very hard to know just what was the intent of whoever drew this security tip up, but the Torah is well known for it's dietary regulations and efforts to promote good healthy habits amongst it's followers. Seattle US also has a point. Can we realistic ever not offend someone in a hyper sensitive multi ethnic and cultural world? Probably not. All that said some investigation should be carried out by the Indian authorities to ascertain the true motive and if he or she was guilty of trying to fan the flames of intolerance they should be held accountable.
11. Bogus Hype: Please show the entire sign..
Terry ,   USA   (01.31.07)
It appears the box drawing belongs to a different warning and is just a misunderstanding; is it?
12. to #6, 713 of Seattle
Daniel ,   Columbia, SC, USA   (01.31.07)
And now your ignorance is displayed for all the world to see... I think your number should actually be .000713; as in, the weight in microliters of the brain cells present in your cranium.
13. 3# I'll try to explain it to yuo slowly
gabriela ben are ,   jerusalem   (01.31.07)
Assume that instead of having a picture of two rabbis studying, u would have a pic of two arabs with kafiehs Wouldnt it be suggesting that arabs are to be associated with poisoning food ??? Dont pretend to be so dummie, or may be u are
14. you're all wrong,,ITS 2 CHINESE MEN OPENING FORTUNE COOKIES
YUM YUM YUM ,   ..............DACON9   (01.31.07)
15. It always amazes me
Tracy W   (01.31.07)
how minorities living in the West are so extremely sensitive to any "incorrect" thought, word, picture, action or slight that they perceive coming from the Western majority. But a totally different standard is held regarding their own prejudices. That gap is even wider when we compare their expectations of political correctness in the West with failings in tolerance within their countries of origin. The Indians I have met were nice too, but when nice Indians say nothing about such a sign, they are complicit, at the very least.
16. Silly.
Dr. Joji Cherian ,   Aluva India.   (01.31.07)
How silly of Jews to make an issue out of nothing.Do you think any Indian will make any thing out of this sign in the train.Jews are are an invisible group in India. The population of Jews in India may not cross even two digits in a country of one billion pluss. This is the way Jews pick up issues.
17. #3 and #6 - You can't be serious!
Adam ,   Philadelphia USA   (01.31.07)
If you are, then there's no hope for you. You will answer for yourself when the time comes...
18. Perhaps it should say Mohammed...
Micha   (01.31.07)
would you have a problem then? Or moslem? Perhaps with a napsack and a bomb. That would be more accurate. Any problems?
19. You should have asked for the railways' response before
(01.31.07)
posting this.
20. Dr. Joji
Ben ,   Tokyo   (01.31.07)
"The population of Jews in India may not cross even two digits in a country of one billion pluss" That's precisely the point, Dr...why on earth use a picture of religious Jews on a sign warning about poisonou food? There are practically no Jews in the country? Let alone Orthodox Jews, as most tourists are young, non-Orthodox Israelis. Imagine a picture of an Aboriginal next to a sign warning of theft in the Tokyo subway...
21. Sign
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (01.31.07)
Let's all just get bent out of shape over a sign/cartoon. Oh, wait a minute, only those "other guys" do that. You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time. Welcome to the world!
22. So, this is NOT an offensive anti-semitic cartoon?
(01.31.07)
Everyone who is okay with the Indian picture will also be okay with a sign that reads: "DO NOT LEAVE BRIEFCASES UNATTENDED." The picture attached would be an Arab-looking person with a turban wearing a suicide belt . Raise your hand if you're okay with that image? Go on, I dare you!
23. Considering the facts
Perplexed ,   USA   (01.31.07)
Terrorist attacks on trains in Mumbai have been perpetrated mostly by Muslim extremists from Kashmir. Considering this irrefutable fact, why would the authorities in Mumbai focus on villifying Jews with an obscenely racist cartoon? Do they think poisoning food is a more pernicious problem than terrorism, which has claimed hundreds of Indian lives? They obviously can't get their priorities for security straight. Maybe that's why they have allowed so many terrorist bombs to hitch a ride on their rail system.
24. Maybe the guy who runs their public service ads
(01.31.07)
is Ahmadinejad's cousin?
25. Israeli tourists will take these signs as souvenirs
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.31.07)
And post them in the Haifa "rakevet" to warn passengers about Haredim.
26. Inspired from the British
Rick ,   Montreal   (01.31.07)
The train system in India was set up and historically run by the colonial British lords of East Asia. It follows that their racist attitudes would still be found today in the rail system, remnents of British anti-semitism.
27. Real issues?
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (01.31.07)
This is a waste of energy and time - there are real problems in the world!
28. Surprised...Love India
M. Duvduvani ,   Yokneam, Israel   (01.31.07)
There's no doubt that picture is of two religious Jews.....note Yarmulke (head coverings) , beards and prayer shawls. I adore India and have been many times (and plan to go again) but this surprises me. Most Indians are not like that at all. Someone with an agenda undoubtedly placed it there. Hmmm..wonder who?
29. #28 Stop wondering
Jono ,   Oz   (01.31.07)
There are some 108M Muslims in India and if the 10% figure I've seen touted for the number of extremists among them you'll around 10.8 M possible candidates. Narrow the field some?
30. #25 - Time for you to get a new obsession....
Rick ,   Denver   (01.31.07)
Your tirades about anti-haridim are BORING. Stick to the article and consider getting a new obsession. This is getting old, you retard.
