I think that often world media is biased against Israel, sometimes terribly so. But anyway, if there are untrue allegations it is the role of the accused to come forward and correct them. Maybe the Jews with their ancient guilt complex are too lax in this regard. Anyway, #30, I am sorry if I offended your American pride because I personally am a big fan of America too.

If one takes all commenters on this site as a jury and applies U.S. rules, i.e. unanimous decision by twelve jurors, then Ramon has been found not guilty. Posters #2,#4,#9,#13,#15 would not have voted guilty. Even allowing the error of counting multiple posts by the same individual, yes like me, of 31, you get more than one not guilty vote out of twelve.

ministers (especially justice ministers - hello? lawyers? officers of the court?) have to abide by higher standards. Israel has alot of work to do to clean out the selfish, corrupt individuals who call themselves our government. The days of selfless leadership from the likes of Ben-Gurion, Golda, Begin, etc. are over. But we are up to the task and we are beginning with Raimon, Katsav and Olmert and his shady-as-hell deals. Lets add to the list treason investigations of certain MK's from the arab parties and we will really be on our way. We have a wonderful country and we deserve better.

In any case, it doesn't matter. I agree with you. We deserve better and should clean up shop for the now and future, regardless of the past. Unfortunately transparency is a double-edged sword. On one hand it's good for the country, but on the other hand it's a PR disaster.

It’s quite amazing how the Yeshaniks turn every little incident in Israel into a personal vendetta against those who do not consider the "Occupation" to be in the long term interests of the country as a whole. While I certainly agree with many of the grievances of our Yesha folk who are full citizens of the State of Israel, they should remember that the problems of Judea and Samaria are not the only issues facing Israel today. There are far worse problems. Corruption does not only exist in the Government or the civil service, it is everywhere and the "protektzioneers" and "macherim", be they big businesses or small time extortionists, are destroying this country. Ramón’s guilty verdict has nothing to do with his or anyone else’s political views. It has to do with the basic issue or what is right and what is wrong. Many people in this country, be they religious or secular, Sephardi or Ashkenazi, Jew, Christian, Arab or agnostic, just seem to feel that woman are merely chattels and it is OK to abuse, beat, rape, sexually harass or assault and even kill them. In the recent Offer Glazer case, a higher court ruled that a forced kiss is sexual assault. Therefore the ruling of the lower court today in the Ramon case is quite sound and judicially correct in terms of legal precedent. It has sent a message to each and every person in this country that the dignity of every individual is to be respected and that high office, senior position or money does not give anyone the right to infringe on that. Some have stated that they view the case as “frivolous” and a waste of the court’s time and that is should never have been brought to court. It has even been said that before two people kiss an agreement should be drawn up and signed by both parties and two witnesses. If Israeli society was one in which respect and the knowledge of what is right and what is wrong was the rule and not the exception, there would indeed be room for jokes. However, when see, hear and read about some of the despicable acts that people have committed against others, then the hilarity turns into a plain bad joke!
