2. who won and who lost the hizzbola war
chaim ,   miami beach usa   (02.01.07)
I was amused to read in the news media that Olmart testified (I believe under oath) that the recent war was won by his brilliance and that of his chosen cohorts. Since we have the ability to see the previous conflict and the methods utilized by unadulterated facts, is Olmart really that stupid to think his mere words are going to change the historical facts. Israel deserves better
3. maybe/maybe not, but israel definitely did not lose
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.01.07)
hizbullah got the bad end of the deal no matter how you look at it. they are worse off phyically and strategically. and nasrallah lives in a hole.

6. Is this PM serious or just halucinating
Norman   (02.01.07)
We won and the war Achievments "called for the immediate release of two Israeli soldiers kidnapped by Hizbullah, was Israel's major achievement." So where are the two soldiers ??? What are we doing about the rearmament of Hizbullah for the next war ??? Israel is in trouble if this Jerk continues as PM.
7. HOW??? BY LETTING HEZBOLLAH TAKE OVER LEBANON?
stude ham   (02.01.07)
And where are the kidnapped soldiers which precipitated this horribly planned conflict??? So long as Hezbollah holds them they won the war. Olmert is an idiot.
8. Israel lost
Alice ,   Chicago, US   (02.01.07)
Badly lost. Every Jew and non-Jew knows that Israel badly lost the war. Also Hizbullah will soon take over the whole Lebanon. This summer will be another war and a few hundred more dead. Of course, Olmert will say he won. Won 2 wars in two years! Perhaps he should be named the Generalisimo Olmert.
9. What an Idiot!!!!!
Leya ,   LA, USA   (02.01.07)
This asshole lost the war and the IDF's ass was kicked real hard and he keeps sayiong that he won. What an idiot.

13. Olmertian Definition of Winning: Getting disgraceful kick
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (02.01.07)
Olmertian Definition of Winning: Getting disgraceful kick on the ass. I you cannot win you may manipulate definition of winning to your situation as Olmert did. But that also means Your Olmert promise the same kind of winning and success for future.
14. Israel won?
Kevin ,   Belleville Canada   (02.01.07)
How does he come to that conclusion? Was Hizbullah destroyed? No. Were the soldiers returned? No. Hundreds died on both sides and nothing was really accomplished; no one won. The only success (inadvertent) that can be attributed to Israel's attack is that Hizbullah will think twice about a small scale incursion. But now Hizbullah is bolder than ever before. Is he taking a Bush tack on this? We won because I said so?
15. Bullshit...
Lednah ,   Europe   (02.01.07)
Hisbulllah has no own will and no own targets; they are not real lebanese and don't care for Lebanon. They make only what the iranian mullahs order them. So they will attack again when the mullahs need a new distraction to fulfill their Great Extremist Muslim Nuclear Persia dreams. So Israel didn't accomplish anything at all. Hisbullah exists, the rockets spent and destroyed are replenished and ever more - they now have UN troops to shield them!
16. He is obviously on drugs!
Oleg ,   USA   (02.01.07)
The best way to defeat Hiz was not to push it away (and who can confirm that they no longer present along the border?), but to eliminate it. Hiz hain popularity and now is gaining control over Lebanon. Iran is in the shadow. the situation can be that instead of Hiz Iranians will rule the show from now on.
17. Whal a joke !!!
daniel ,   middle east   (02.01.07)
the preclaimed purpouse of this war consisted on returning the kidnapped soldiers , but what really happened is a deadly failure to israel.... the seconde objective was to destroy hizbollah and to keep him out of al litany- river but what actually happened is a massive genocide on the israely mircava scale .... and hisbullah is still capable to deffend himself at any time and thats what the israely army has calimed.... so the war did not achieve anything exept a great victory for hizbullah , a spiritual one and a strategic as well.
18. Doesn't any one have a good word to say about his leadership
Harry   (02.01.07)
19. Lebanon II not a zero-sum game
Xaxam ,   Rehovot   (02.01.07)
A leader is the person who sets goals and achieves them. Olmert did not set the goals and failed to achieve any. The weak politician who thinks of keeping himself afloat must quit. Shame on us who have no legal means to oust this "big mouth, small brains".
20. In Olmert Land Israel Won.
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (02.01.07)
In Olmert's la la land Israel defeated Hizbullah. In reality, Hizbullah is back at full strength, gained a huge propaganda victory AND tarnished Israel's invincible image. Now, if THAT is victory then of course Olmert is correct.
21. You won..alright Congratulations
Ali ,   Lebanon   (02.01.07)
I thought that ur goals were destroying Hezbollah and returning the soldiers...Anyways, Congratulation dude
22. Would the Arabs stop if they were winning
Chaim ,   Toronto, Canada   (02.01.07)
Despite the mismanagement of the war and logistic shortcomings Israel did not lose. Do you things the Arabs would stop if they were winning? The border is much quieter now and the North rebuilding. The situation is far worse in Lebanon.
23. olmert the clown ! IDF could win but:
stephane ,   france   (02.01.07)
you didn't allow them to do what they were trained to do in order to win this war.the only thing you were thinking while our brave soldiers were fighting:it was how to stop this war as soon as possible in order to look like the good boy of bush or chirac!what did you expect ehud!!?? that bush will say to you:"ok,good boy you stopped the war..."? maybe you want a medal because you didn't let IDF win??what kind of victory is that mr the clown!? we lost about 160 soldiers,we have 2 kidnapped soldiers,we have no news of them, the arsenal of nasrallah remain almost intact...and you call that a victory? you are the shame of the jewish people!i can't bear you.this was for ehud... and now for the people who is happy from the results of nasrallah:you must know that the only reason why we didn't really win this war,it's because we had the weakest government ever in israel during this war.but israel will learn from the errors in lebanon, and next time hezbollah will pay a price they can't imagine.just wait that the clown lose the next election;and a harsh revenge will come.
24. Whatever, Shias of SLebanon/SBeirut got Tents after the war
KMR ,   Middle East   (02.02.07)
25. We pretty much did win actually
Josh ,   Vancouver Canada   (02.02.07)
OK, while Olmert may not be a stellar PM, and while Israel may have lost the war in terms of the public. Lets be serious, they didn't "lose" the war at all. Does any of you really think hezbollah will attack anytime soon, haha, i don't think so. Furthermore, once the new RAFAEL system is in place in a couple years, what will hezbollah do, they will have nothing on us. While parts of Lebaon were affected by the IAF, it wasn't nearly as bad as it looked on TV, much of Beirut wasn't even touched. And honestly, if your not happy about cluster bomb use, don't attack with crap Katyusha rockets. Oh yeah, and if Hezboallah takes over as government, that makes war state against state, good luck hezbollah in that one. The only ones that will really lose here is the Lebanese people, and if they were smart, they would do everything they could to get rid of Hezbollah.
26. #22: Don't be naive - Hisbullah didn't start the war ...
Lednah ,   Europe   (02.02.07)
Hisbullah didn't start the war to hurt Israel. This was the third quite a distant possibility which become a reality due to the Halutz, Peretz and Olmert. The main targets were two: 1. To distract Europe from Iran nukes and they succeeded somewhat. The UN resolution was called from the iranians a "torn peace of paper" as it didn't put any real santions. Even more - now Hisbullah has european troops which guards thier backs. 2. The second target and maybe it was the most important target AND IT SUCCEEDED AT 100% - with the hands of the Israelis to destroy the lebanese economics and to force as much as possible non-shiite lebanese to flee the country, making lebanon a easier target for a coup.
27. A new catchphrase...
Manny ,   NY, USA   (02.02.07)
"No one is to blame," We can now parlay that excuse into every aspect of our lives. Let`s see....your car doesn`t work after being in the shop, well, the mechanic says it`s not HIS fault. Your meal not cooked, don`t blame the chef. The bank loses your account, it`s not THEIR fault. The airline pilot flies in the wrong direction...blameless. The surgeon who operates on the wrong leg...even more blameless. The 2 kidnapped soldiers not free...it doesn`t matter because Olmert waves a UN paper that says the soldiers must be released as a requisite of the ceasefire. IDF withdrawl from Gaza has brought peace & security to Sederot...it`s just that those pesky residents get peeved because of the odd Qassam rocket, or two, or three, or four, etc. Just stop blaming little Ehud...he is blameless.
28. Agree but disagree
Allen ,   Chicago US   (02.02.07)
True Israels situation is not as bad, but in all honesty, how sad is it that we are comparing win/lose based on civilian deaths. I am a FULL supporter of Israel, yet, a death is a death. Lebanese should not have to suffer.
29. Olmert is a liar, not just a fool.
Richard ,   USA   (02.02.07)
Israel has never suffered such a humiliation as it did under Olmert and Peretz' incompetent, "on again- off again" mishandling of the war. None of the objectives were accomplished and our enemies were strengthened. As a result Israel is doomed to fight at least 3 future wars - Lebanon, Gaza and Iran/Syria in the near future. This is not a victory. Olmert is not stupid, he is a liar who thinks the rest of us are stupid.
30. No one won!!!
laowai ,   meiyou   (02.02.07)
Israel didn't achieve its goals - the return of the 2 kidnapped soldiers. In an effort to bring them back, many died, including civilians. If that's winning, I don't want to know what is losing!!! On the other hand - Hezbollah didn't win - they also didn't achieve their goal, and they are trying desperately to control the government, after bringing davastation to their country. When will they realize there are no winners at wars - just losers, some big, some small, but all losers....
