1. WHERE ARE THE PERSONAL STORIES ABOUT SDEROT?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?
(02.02.07)
Where are the daily interviews, the video, the images from the scenes?!?!?! It happens daily but where are you?!??! Or are you only concerned about kiss dramas and whether or not Jews are planting trees on this Earth!?!?!??!
2. These people make Hashem in their own image
David ,   Holon   (02.02.07)
and make Judaism into their own image. Its not Judaism anymore to Sagi its Sagism. He creates his own mitzvot, what in the world is the point of this to make more branches and fictious titles. Goodness Gratious, what an ego.
3. Interesting...
Ariel ,   Sydney, Australia   (02.02.07)
Nice to see Jews being interested in learning the holy books and their heritage. However, I have trouble understanding how one can separate Torah from G-d and mitzvoth. The Torah contains all of G-d's mitzvoth (commandments). It's like saying "I don't believe in keeping fit and eating a healthy diet, but I love playing basketball and eating lots of fruit".
4. oh no! don't say secular! Jimmy Carter will punish us!
Bad! Bad Jew!   (02.02.07)
Don't you see? If we had been god worshiping like good old Jimmy thinks we should be, we would have been entitled to the same rights all humans have: to have the obligation of who ever signs agreements with us to those agreements, not to be libled, not to be slaughtered in our homes and in the streets and not to be lied to and about all the time giving those crimes reasons that twist reality. But as he told Golda Meir and the good American Christians who read his book: "I have learnt over the years that when ever Jews were secular they suffered horrible consequinces" and seeing that he was "shocked to find only two Jews in a kibutz's synagoge" there you have it! We have been bad bad Jews and we should be punished by Carter him self, no less! We deserve no state! We deserve no rest! And we ought to be punished by the Palestinians and the Saudies and all those god worshiping nations who do god's will. P.S. I'm by the religous, no kidding.
5. Foolishness!
Yisrael ,   Montreal   (02.02.07)
It is much worse to know lots of Torah and to reject it, than to know nothing. If this leads them toward G-d and more mitzvot, that's good, otherwise, they are making a bad decision for their neshema!
6. A small step in the right direction?
SL ,   New York   (02.02.07)
This school--obviously it is not a yeshiva--is the first step to fill the gap between the abysmal ignorance of so many secular Jews regarding all things Jewish and the religious world. However, the study of Torah is not, and cannot be, a cultural exercise. The study of Torah can only truly succeed if accompanied by actions, ie mitzvot. I suggest these students start with mitzvot between people, such as lovingkindness, and avoiding gossip, etc, and then perhaps some of them will see the beauty of a day of rest for all workers (even those in malls, etc), and so many of the wonderful mitzvot. In that regard, sites like Aish.com should be of help.
7. Tower of Babel - Making your own morality
Lemmings Hotline ,   LJ USA   (02.02.07)
This looks like another Reform Judaism establishment, movement, whatever
8. Yeshiva
Abe ,   manchester   (02.02.07)
I hope that ater learning Gemarah, and Halahcah, thse lost souls, will find their way back home, and. I hope the learning will penatrate the heart, and will bring back many more jews to Judaism.
9. Are you "our" SAGI ????? I thought you were 60 +
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (02.02.07)
10. Give it a chance
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (02.02.07)
As long as they invite orthodox and right wing lecturers to keep some balance and openmindness, good luck Most people who do not believe in G=d do so because that's what they were indoctrinated at home. These kids obviously started feeling different and became interested in their heritage I hope this institute does not become a "reform centre" with just another name, but a place where genuine soul seach is allowed to their students

bs'd mitoh lo leshma,ba leshma
12. GAM LISHMAH
Michel SLONIMSKI ,   Paris, France   (02.02.07)
A non-yeshivah led by a non-rabbi for no-mitzvahs people... But wait : im lo lishmah, gam lishmah... Somehow, the Torah will outwit them...
13. False logic
Michael ,   Haifa   (02.02.07)
A person, who does not believe in the existence of God and who studies Torah, Mishna and Talmud is at the very best oxymoronic and in all likelihood, just moronic. The logic of such study is that the "divine" statements of the Torah are axiomatic and unquestionable. All Talmudic outcomes are based on the interpretations of an unquestionable divine precept. The Torah is based on faith in myth, so that all contentions deriving from unquestionable faith and myth are logically untenable. The idea of a "secular yeshiva" is as sensible as a "satanic saint".
14. To #2 - Making God in their own image....
John ,   Maaleh Adumim,Israel   (02.02.07)
Don't act so high-and-mighty, David - you think people who are generally considered religious or ultra-orthodox don't create God in their own image quite often? Don't interpret things the way they think they should be?
15. SECULAR YESHIVA = KOSHER PORK (LOL!)
Dr Doolittle   (02.02.07)
16. new secular yeshiva in TA
zalman tornek ,   zefat,israel   (02.02.07)
If any of the students would like to come to my home for a shabbat, we welcome them
17. "SECULAR YESHIVA"
JK ,   NYC   (02.02.07)
Yes they 're called schools of Reform Judaism, Conservative Judaism and Reconstructionist Judaism and Apostasy. Judaism is not a literature class. This is the reason Arabs will suceed in destroying Israel because if it stands on these legs God will take away his compassion becasue of this travesty and others, with all the signs Iran, Egypt, Syria, Hamas, Hezbullah, Fatach all armed to the teeth and not the stupids who left their boots in Sinai and ran, Nukes and Missiles, and all the Hellenism existing in Israel, post zionism that has sapped the will of the people, the greed. Israel will have some splaining to do soon.
18. "Secular Yeshiva" is an Oxymoron
emanon ,   USA   (02.02.07)
19. Yeshiva
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.02.07)
The seculars are condemned for their ignorance of religious matters . Now that some start to study this , they are also condemned . Is there some logic ? Has knowledge of Judaism to be condemned ? or only reserved to religious people ?
20. Gabriela
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.02.07)
As long as they invite......to keep a balance and openmindness . you wrote . Do the orthodox yeshivot invite seculars and left wings lecturers to keep a balance ? Simply a question . [ You know , Jews answer a question by another one ]
21. I don't know what you mean by "our SAGI" but...
SAGI ,   Tel Aviv   (02.02.07)
let me assure you, the Yeshiva encorage and even demand us to be influenced by the texts, and to find how it relates to our own way of living. with that in mind, by no way will the place become a "reform center" and will not be related to any of the different sections in Judaism. thank you for showing interest, and i invite you to come and visit us at the Yeshiva. Shabat Shalom
22. good one :P
hanina   (02.02.07)
I feel the need to push, like when I was in labor.
23. Angus steak house for vegetarians:)
Jeremy ,   Auckland   (02.03.07)
Secular yeshiva sounds the same
24. Arikel ,Sydney Nr 3
leon ,   Grand Rapids USA   (02.03.07)
It's really very simple. Before there were enumerated mitzvot, the law emanated from the five books of Moses. Then, when sacrifices could no longer be performed, rabbis were invented. INVENTED ! Now, many Jews are questioning the validity and authority of the rabbinate. Rightly or wrongly, this is an inevitable result of freedom.
25. Michael, Haifa
leon ,   Grand Rapids USA   (02.03.07)
You misunderstood. They don't profess disbelief of God, but merely question the personal identity believed by many to be His characer. (of course I am doing it too, by using a personal pronoun, masculine gender) They are merely quesioning the Talmudic doctrines that have become legal mandates.
26. #13, Biblical scholars need not be religious
AK   (02.03.07)
and Bernard Lewis or Robert Spencer are no Muslims. Of cause the use of the word 'yeshiva' is silly.
27. leon, Grand Rapids
Michael ,   Haifa   (02.03.07)
The argument I am trying to make is that the Talmud is based on conclusions from axioms in the Torah. The Rabbis do not question the validity of the axioms. Will the scholars of the secular Yeshiva question the divine axioms and arrive at different conclusions from those of the Rabbis ? In my original post, I referred to Logic and not to the belief in the existence of God. Logic requires scepticism and religious systems abhor scepticism.
28. Leon's response to Arik of Sydney #3
Ike ,   Melbourne, Australia   (02.03.07)
Leon, If you think that by renaming Arik as "Arikel" and thereby attempting to transform him into a child people will listen to your responses, then I suggest you should go to a Yeshiva which teaches Derech Eretz even if you think that was also INVENTED.
29. #24
RW ,   Jerusalem   (02.03.07)
"Then, when sacrifices could no longer be performed, rabbis were invented. INVENTED ! " Perhaps learning Gemara, and some Jewish history, will show you that this statement is completely false.
30. Poor deluded people!
