31.  It's a Theological College. and #1
dalia ,   ta   (02.04.07)
but to attract attention, these people, obviously lacking confidence in their very lame and very ordinary project, had to choose a name that would attract attention, and give them the headlines they so desperately seek( in ENGLISH YNET!!). Sad to have to resort to gimmicks. But not surprising. Shot themselves in the foot with their self contradictory and weak minded decision. One up for yeshivot. So stupid as the term yeshiva is steeped in old fashioned old world jewishness i.e. yiddishkeit, which these confused people abhor so much. Poor GD, He MUST be having sleepless nights over Mr Sagi and his funny mates...Quite funny, if it wasn't so sad. #1 Havent you learn't Hebrew yet ? WE read Sderot stories all the time. There was a beautiful one in the weekend papers and in the tv news last night, and another during last week. In fact almost every day WE read about this great group of people.

Ofer ,   USA   (02.04.07)
Why waste your time and energy studying something that you don't even believe in? There are many good, short, and cheap primers on Judaism, if you don't want to learn in-depth Torah study, mitzvot, etc. you don't need a yeshiva. I don't believe in God either, and I would never go to one of these places. Every second is one step closer to our deaths, shouldn't our time and energy be devoted to something that matters?

No study is waste of time , and in this special case , certainly not . And this even for seculars who do not believe .

I disagree. Study is beneficial when it has real world application. Every human has a philosophy by which he lives, an intellectual declaration of a personal relationship with all other life, a statement of expectations and obligations, a pronouncement of self. That philosophy furnishes the very basis for personal behavior, and it establishes the value of a human to itself and all other life. Therefore, wouldn't it be pertinent that this philosophy be grounded in fact? For me, this philosophy is gleaned from empirical, scientific knowledge, not Torah knowledge. The Torah has nothing to offer me. What has more relevance to my life, studying the big bang and the anthropic principle, or studying tzimtzumim? I am sure that you are going to respond that Torah study teaches you ethical behavior, but it's really of no consequence if every Jewish tradition is predicated upon the universe being created in 6 days 5767 years ago; it's just not fact, and in my opinion, should be discarded, and our lives moved on with.

Philosophy , litterature , old greek history and so on , have they real world applications ? If the torah has nothing to offer you , you are more secular that i am . The torah is the history of my people . This land is ours HISTORICALLY , and because the torah says nothing to you , you stay in the USA , and i made alyah . For most of the facts told in the torah a scientific explanation has been found , don't ask me exactly what , but i can assure you that the crossing of the red sea by Moshe when they left Egypt has found a serious explanation . So accept that the facts have , most of them certainly , happened . An image : when Israeli scientists were looking for water , they had a Tanach in one hand , and modern technology in the other . If studying the torah has nothing to offer you , don't study Torah , you loose a part of your history . And this has nothing to do with being religious or not .

The children always eat their young. People died for what? Iran is awake and so are Jew haters all over the world.
40. New Yeshiva, wow!
Kenneth ,   Woyoming   (02.06.07)
A group of lapse Catholics has just announced that they will be opening "secular seminaries" where Christians and non-Christians can study secular topics in an environment that faintly resembles an actual Catholic religious seminary, except without all of that "religious" stuff. The Environment Defense League has also announced that they are planning on manufacturing a new environment-friendly brand of car that has no engine or interior. The "car" features two wheels, handlebars and a seat. Drivers simply use their feet to spin the pedals to propel the "car" forward. Finally, the Kaballah Center will continue to offer classes on Kaballah without actually discussing anything related to the Torah or the actual Kaballah.
41. REPOSITORY OF WISDOM ?
RCA ,   USA   (02.12.07)
It just may be a repository reflecting the broad spectrum that is considered Judaic studies, or, Judaic wisdom from across all movements. How can this be bad ? How can comprehensive knowledge of a subject, one as lofty as Judaism and Israeli society, be rediculous or detrimental to an individual Jew ? If the knowledge presented to the Jew, in this institution, prepares her / him to make the decisions necessary, that lead to better individuals, a better world, a greater and more compassionate humanity, then everyone wins. It seems all the scoffers are fearing the possibility that their own cherished beliefs may not withstand the light of day or many more knowledgeable Jews. Who cares whether or not it is called a SECULAR YESHIVA ? That is beside the point. YOU GET THE MESSAGE.
