1. Glaringly Absent From the Decree
emanon ,   USA   (02.02.07)
is a repudiation against violence to non-Muslims. Once again the claim that Islam is "a religion of peace" is proved false.
2. Especially Muslims?
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (02.02.07)
Is this no contradictive of the west bashing rhetoric we here from muslims, where we care only for christians and jews, more so than innocent muslims. It looks like they are guilty of the same accusations thrown our way. Hypocrisy from a muslim, who ever heard of such a thing? lol.
3. But we can still kill Jews, right? Phew!
Ben Hur ,   Manhattan, USA   (02.02.07)
4. it's that seeds of hate thing
jp ,   usa   (02.02.07)
When you sow seeds of hate into your children for generations and generations, the harvest will always be hate and it will always manifest as hate. But what they forgot to teach their kids, is that once you embrace hate, hate makes no distinction between muslim factions. It just hates. And next thing you know, you just hate your fellow muslim just because, and you don't give a second thought to killing him in cold blood. And now, truly the fields are ripe with harvest.
5. Oh please!!!!
Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (02.02.07)
The wording of this article is so obvious! The little innuendos about not killing Lebanese but especially Muslims is such rubbish! Please go to the sources, our Mufti, our Patriarch, and other religious authorities and read up on exactly what was said. This article is selective and biased and does not show the true picture. And what is worse is how the talkbacks here are so quick to pint out "repudiation against violence to non-Muslims".
6. Why so self-centered?
Khaled ,   Lebanon   (02.02.07)
You guys are being rediculous! The point of this edict is not to bring world peace, but just to avoid a civil war in Lebanon. The current internal political conflict just happens to be between political groups that are mostly Sunnis and Shiites and so the edict focuses on preventing bloodshet between these two specific groups. Jews are not mentioned not because they are fair game, but simply because they are irrelevant to this political crisis.
7. #5&#6----#4 right on.
connie ,   usa   (02.02.07)
You really need to read #4( jp.) this is the most accurate thing that describes what is going on in the middle east today. And by reading both your comments, I gotta say that #4's got ya both pegged.
8. No, Connie,
Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (02.03.07)
that's not true. In Lebanon the factions are political and not religious; this is what is pitting different Muslim sects and different Christian sects against each other. If you go back to our history of "Clan" leadership in the civil war you'll understand what I mean. It is a question of power. Franjiyyeh and Aoun against Ja3 Ja3 et al (Christians), Hariri and Sanyoura against Nasralla et al (Muslims). What these religious figures are doing is condemning those youths who are fired up and have nothing better than to take old grievances from the past civil war out onto the streets. But these clashes happened more than a week ago, and what everyone is doing is trying to calm the people down and open way for negotiations and peaceful talk. Please Lebanese, if you haven't watched this video yet please do so now and don't let politicians' disagreements break our spirit. Long live Lebanon! http://youtube.com/watch?v=S34UvrUZTN4

jews/israelis are extremely relevant to this struggle since without their presence just across the border, none of the present insanity and tragedy in beirut would have occured. isn't it just amazing how jews in israel have this extreme power to unite all muslims in one long big fight. protect your beautiful lebanon, the land of cedars and the jewel of the arab world because you are about to loose it big time to hizbullah. i feel terribly for the innocent lebanese that just want to live a peaceful life and progress as beautifully as they did prior to the lebanon war this summer. i hope your aremy is strong and capable enough to resist the terrorists who want to steal your country and throw you back into the dark ages. the lebanese are wonderful kind people. the many i met are intelligent and very capable. i wish you luck in your struggle and may the BEST MAN win. if i were to choose the best of the two leaders, it'll be saniora hands down. not because he posses less of a threat to israel, but because he can lead you all into the future, while nasrallah will take you back to muhammad's period.
11. Bloodshed everywhere!
Daniel ,   Israel   (02.03.07)
We are behaving like crowded rats in a small place. Are we too many on this planet?
12. #4- quite right, man
Cameron   (02.03.07)
and it's very obvious that Nazrallah's dutiful zombies are just iching to get to work in the fields & harvest that dubious Lebanese crop.
13. #11-it's religion
humanist ,   Canada   (02.03.07)
Daniel...humans tend to behave like rats when religion clouds their minds. Earth is vast and plentiful...it's the need to be close to a religious monument that makes a human behave like a rat. Humanists can live anywhere in Peace.
14. Alien threat
futurist ,   USA   (02.03.07)
I think Reagan's suggestion of an "alien" threat would be the only thing that'll unite all warring neighbors in the world, forgetting their longtime feuds. I agree with #13 that religion is a source of these divisions, but there are always other things like race, social status, etc. So E.T. and his friends are the only ones who will save this planet! haha
