4. Kibbutzim deserve nothing
JK ,   NYC   (02.04.07)
They created a rabidly anti religious anti Toarh society where Jews don't pray to G-d, where they cut off the peyes of Temanim and Sephardiim and Holocaust survivors and stripped them of their G-d and then mooched off the rest of Israel for decades where today they accuse the charedi of the same.

Mishmar Haemek is so wonderful. I lived there for 5 years in the early 90's. The people are good and warm and the history is fantastic. The natural beauty of the whole area is breathtaking. I wish for Mishmar Haemek another 85 prosperous and healthy years! If my wife would have it (she is American), I would move back yesterday.
7. Happy Birthday, Mishmar Ha'emek!

Thanks for the pictures and thanks for the memories. Mishmar Ha'emek was my first home when I first arrived in Israel with the Teheran Children (a group of Holocaust survivors). Congratulations and many many more!

13. In praise of the Kibbutz
rlcohen ,   JNB (ZA)   (02.16.07)
It is difficult to think of a sector or institution that has contributed MORE to Israel, Zionism and the Jewish people as a whole than the Kibbutzim. At the same time, it is difficult to think of a sector that has contributed LESS than the Haredim (with rare exceptions). Yes, the Kibbutz movement went through a phase where they needed to be “bailed out” by the taxpayer, but the Kibbutz work ethic is still unrivalled, while the Haredim hide behind the skirts of observance and study, supported by their womenfolk and refusing to serve their country in the IDF. It was wrong to have attempted to impose a secular viewpoint on the religious, in the same way that the reverse is wrong, and far more rife. To see things in context, however, Labour Zionism was attempting to wean the Yishuv away from the fatalistic, powerless approach of Orthodoxy. A thousand more thriving Kibbutzim would be the salvation of the Jewish community in Eretz Israel. A thousand more Yeshivot and Kollelim would simply be national suicide. The Jewish people will forever owe the Kibbutzim a debt of gratitude. I wish I could say the same for the Haredi sector!

Drat! I should have said, the above is in response to JK from NYC’s comments (#4. Kibbutzim deserve nothing).
