5. Ask for ID and be careful
Ilan ,   Ariel   (02.05.07)
The trampiada at Eli is in sight of the community's gate and the road is well traveled, although clearly the situation can be improved. Go in pairs and ask for ID if there is the slightest doubt. For my part. I will continue to pick up trampists as I go by there.
6. A Jew was almost kidnapped and all...
Daniel ,   Tekoa   (02.05.07)
you do is make fun of a Yeshiva kid! "I'll continue to hitchhike, says yeshiva student" If this would have happened near Tel Aviv univ. would the title have been the same? Enough hatred!
7. # 1 - I agree 100% - Selective understanding on their part.
Talula ,   Israel   (02.05.07)
I remember that after the last murder of a young settler, the Chief Rabbi said it is forbidden to take rides. My question: Does Evyatar Mahon think this rule does not apply to him? I agree with #3 - why should soldiers endanger their own lives for these Morons?
8. all this story is
me ,   here   (02.05.07)
is some stupid kid trying to get his face on the news... if he didnt get in the car how did he know they wanted to kidnap him? if he wasnt hitchhiking, and they were trying to get him in the car... then why does he say he will CONTINUE to hitchhike??
9. #6 - In reply, yes
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (02.05.07)
It's not a generation or two ago, anybody who hitches , anywhere, is asking for trouble and not just from the Palestinians. Why don't the settlers arrange private transport like they do in Bnei Brak. AFter all, some folks don't even consider the segrated buses Dan provides as kosher enough and offer alternatives
10. Risky hitchhiking FORBIDDEN by Chief Rabbi
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (02.05.07)
Because it is written in the Torah, "You shall not TEST HaShem your G-d. " Also, it is a major sin against Pikuach Nefesh... chas v'shalom, if even ONE soldier were killed trying to save you, you would share in the responsibility for his/her death. Please arrange for another way to move about, either in groups or by buying cheap vehicles or asking for donated ones. Terrorists don't care if you are a yeshiva student or Peace Now or if you live on Sheinkin Street, you are just another Jew to kidnap and kill. We should not discriminate, either... we are ALL Jews - to protect from harm. Enough with the useless political squabbling amongst ourselves.
11. Jew Will Live Free In OUR Land
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (02.05.07)
If the Arabs can't live in OUR land without trying to murder us, then they will have to leave. WE will not live in fear or leave.
12. Zionism is dead. Hitchike at your own risk.

Rob ,   israel   (02.05.07)
Hitchhiking is dangerous no matterhow careful you think you are being. When I was growing up in the USA my folks always told me donot hitchhike or accept rides from strangers, I still tell that to my to kids, no matter what the time of day/night I will drive you where ever you need to go just ask, if I can't then take a bike, walk or see if someone's mom can drive one way, or take a cab that we callfrom the house. Today's world is alot more dangerous now, notonly do you worry about terrorists grabbing you, what about rapists& child molesters. I am sure that in the case of Kibbutzim in the terrorities they can arrange a car pool amongst its members or hire a bus comapany to drive those without cars at scheduled times so they can get around safely. Don't be foolish you only have one life to live!
15. #11 things could have looked a lot
Be smart/safe ,   travel in groups   (02.05.07)
different..This pigheadedness could cost you your lives. Do you think that the Arabs who are out to kidnap you give a damn about your rhetoric?. I doubt you would feel the same if they took u to some forest somewhere and shot u in the head... Get your community to organise buses..surely ur lives are worth it. Travel with others who are heading in the same direction...... You might not have to leave u might end up being killed. You have your whole lives ahead of you..plan your trips wisely.
16. Arrest him for endangering others.
Shki   (02.05.07)
Normally I would say go ahead and hitchhike. However, you know the potential consequences and as long as you are comfortable with the risks, have fun. The problem I have is that if this kid gets in to trouble, Israel needs to risk the lives of her soldiers and her political capital in order to extricate him from the mess he knowingly got himself into. Saying let him do it, but let him face the potentially negative consequences if he something happens doesn't cut it. We all know that if something happens we won't allow ourselves to do nothing. As such, in this case the rights of the collective trump the rights of the individual. If he's caught putting the lives of others in danger, arrest him.
17. People hate so much they drip with venom
Ilan ,   Ariel   (02.05.07)
Time to face up. Teenagers hitch rides and in the context of inadequate or absent public transportation you have to be a hypocrite to expect differently. What is disturbing is how disappointed some are that this person got away. That he doesn't let it traumatize him. He is no less a victim of the situation as the person how escapes getting killed while waiting for a bus, or in a restaurant. The only guilty parties are the murderers and to a much lesser extent the authorities for not catching them before they kill. Some of you are in serious need of a human soul. I really pity you.
