1. gays & the army
israel ,   isreal   (02.08.07)
The army may not have a problem with gays, but from what my gay friends tell me, they don't admit being gay as their fellow soldiers are most likely to make their lifes a living hell... nice in theory though
2. Yesh ve-yesh (there is, and there is)
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel aviv   (02.08.07)
Israel has at least made it clear what is and isn't acceptable. It's always nice to have good news to send to my buddies back home.
3. Nothing to brag on this
Brod ,   USA   (02.08.07)
There is nothing to brag about this which is an ABOMINATION to GOD.
4. Validity of the Univeristy of California Study
Paolo ,   Free Lebanon   (02.08.07)
Yes, there's gays in the US military, but it's not ready for the San Francisco style permissiveness as in the IDF. Look what happened to the IDF last year in Lebanon and some of it was attributed to the IDF's policy. This policy affected soldier morale, discipline, and will to fight or even go into battle. The study has alot of credibility. I wonder if the IDF could handle another war. Look at the California University staff that did the study and analysis. What's their background, personal lifestyle, and AGENDA! The study doesn't say much especially when the staff are all from San Francisco and are actively involved in many of gay right communities. Also look what's happening there in San Francisco with the alarming increase rate of murder among city Black Americans, an almost bankrupt city government, a drunk mayor who promotes a Sodom and Gomorrah lifestye among his employees, and the school board that kicked out ROTC from the schools because it doesn't reflect their homosexual affliations. Maybe it wasn't the right decision. Just because it supposedly works in liberal Israel doesn't mean it will work somewhere else.
5. #3 - You brag about botched circumcisions, families
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (02.08.07)
who can't feed their children, ultra orthodox holocaust denial, kids who turn over the carts of elderly Arab peddlers in Hebron, murders on leave who don't buckle their kids in the car (while driving without a license), and I'll brag about gays in the army. Deal?
6. to 1 & 4
The Raccoon   (02.08.07)
#1 - some people are assholes. Assholes happen. But then again, look at 8200. #4 - your insinuation that the recent skirmish with HA didn't go well because of gays is insane. The military is plagued by incompetent, childish generals and even more incompetent, childish and opportunistic politicians. What's sexual orientation got to do with killing people, anyway? We're not talking about necrophiles here, we're talking about homosexuals.
7. #3 Brad is Wrong
Ofer ,   USA   (02.08.07)
Listen up Brod, Judaism has nothing against homosexuals. The Torah, however, does stipulate that two homosexuals should not have sex. Big difference. The very fact that the Bible mentions homosexuality indeed means that it is part of the natural order of things, yet, it asks these individuals to refrain from sexual activity between themselves; it doesn't castigate the sexual orientation itself to be an abomination.
8. Abominations
Arthur ,   Miami Beach, FL   (02.08.07)
Eatng shellfish is also called an abomination; so why do the Haredi always zero in on gays?
9. dorothy and Ofer, Brad is right
BUSH ,   USA   (02.08.07)
Judaism has something against homosexuals. Israelis don't. The written and oral Torah have something against sexual orientation whether it is an abomination or not. To Dorothy, nobody ever bragged about anything you mentioned. You definitely have a chip on your shoulder.
10. Gays
cj ,   usa   (02.08.07)
We can argue back and forth about who is right and who is wrong where homosexuals are concerned. However, when the Word of God says that no homosexuals will be allowed in heaven, you can take that as final authority. No need for further discussion. God's word is always final authority.
11. Gays in the Army? oy ve!!!
Dov ,   canada   (02.08.07)
I have no problem with gay people, as long as they act honorably while on duty, and without trying to display too much of their sexuality. However, it is known that, in general gay people are much more sensitive to violence because of their hormonal femininity. And placing them in situations, which require “tough nuts”, may ultimately not be in the best interest of Israel’s defense mechanism.
12. More stuff for Dotty Fiend to brag about
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (02.08.07)
The secular guy who was sentenced to 20 years for beating his baby to death (I can't brag about Israel Valis: he was EXONERATED) Tali Fahima, Uri Avnery, Yariv Oppenheimer, Shulamit Aloni, Ilan Pappe, Neve Gordon, and all the other ultra-leftist anti-Semites, compared to whom the 6 nutbags of Neturei Karta are a drop in the bucket. You can also brag about seculars who stretch barbed wire across the streets of Tel Aviv while I brag about religious kids who overturn garbage cans. You can brag about secular "artists" going on "strike" for more government handouts for their pro-Palestinian "artworks" while I brag about the only families in Israel who are keeping up the Jewish birth rate. Deal?
13. Gays
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.08.07)
I understand very well that for religious people being gay is an abomination . You have not to be gay , abide to the Torah laws . But there are seculars who don't follow the same rules , they don't believe , and for them , as for many heterosexual seculars , it's not an abomination . As long as they do it with consenting adults , LET THEM LIVE their life You will find many gay people who became very important in their proffessional activity .
14. Bush
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.08.07)
Judaism has something against homosexuals . Israelis don't . You wrote , so stay where you live if you don't like gays
15. dorothy, your ignorance toward religious jews is scary
mitch ,   ra'anana   (02.08.07)
i'll bet you've never had a conversation with an orthodox jew before. the fact you display such ignorance and hostility toward them proves you never have.
16. Charles why are you so darn welcoming
BUSH ,   USA   (02.08.07)
to anyone who doesn't live or breath like you. Can't you tolerate a good samaritan. YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOMED TO AMERICA. It is not my right to take that away from you. Moving on
17. Follow Israel's example on gays in the military,
BUSH ,   USA   (02.08.07)
US study says But be prepared to miss your targets LIKE ISRAEL
18. #11 - No tough gay men?
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (02.08.07)
Oy, does this one think in outdated stereotypes. Try a trip to the gym.
19. gays--#13
cj ,   usa   (02.09.07)
The whole promise with the abomination thing, is you that it takes Hashem's hand of protection off of you, as well as those who have accepted it. And for what? So you can live in abomination? It's just so not worth it.
20. cj USA
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.09.07)
I would agree with "hashem's protection" if he had protected his NON gay people during the Shoa . So if you want to be "protected" , don't be gay , neither am i . But i am for them to be tolerated and accepted as HUMANS
21. Bush
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.09.07)
I accept a "good samaritan" , but i have not to agree with his or her views . I can send this back to you , why are you so against everything not religious ? Live and let live others . Accept that not everyone is "shomer mitzwoth" . Those people deserve respect , the same way TRUE religious deserve it .
22. There's more that US can learn from Israel
