the DHIMMI AWARD!
37. What do you expect from a coward?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (02.12.07)
Another coward in govt. Why doesn't the mayor join kadima/labor. Too bad the mayor did not serve in the I.D.F. as a combat soldier. He could have grown a pair!
38. What Moslems Fear
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (02.12.07)
"Moslem leaders fear the deployment of heavy machinery near the Mount could damage the foundations of the al-Aqsa Mosque" BULLSHIT. They have been using backhoes to dig into the foundations directly underneath their "precious" for DECADES.
39. photo : Police or IDF troops
(02.12.07)
"Police securing entrance to the Temple Moun"; Sorry, I couldn't reckon the difference between regular police and IDFmilitary ..... or the mayor has changes his planes, but the government has not.
40. public hearings at the City Hall
(02.12.07)
do you mean a "democratic" public debate with hearings from All the Israelis and no other hearings from the international muslim community ?
41. #36 and Dhimmis
Rustum ,   London, UK   (02.12.07)
what a ridiculous storm in a teacup - and what a lot of Arab-hating and anti-Islamic crapola written by the usual suspects. It is so sad to see that the usual list of rabid sickos find that any accomodation with other peoples' sensitivities is reduced to the nonsensical label of "dhimmis" as stated, so wisely by Vilde Chaya of Bat Zona. Perhaps those that are fuming on their sofas at the thought that Israeli soldiers will not have to tear-gas Palestinians or shoot them dead will consider diverting their efforts to the greater issues of reconciliation and peace rather than attempting to fan the flames of confrontation - particularly over such a non-issue for Zionism. Leave Waqf issues to the waqf. It looks so much as if a certain segment of the Israeli polity and its mindless supporters abroad just love a confrontation over anything no matter how absolutely insignificant it is to their own lives and beliefs.
42. #37 ......of horns!

43. To # 22
Natan   (02.12.07)
You keep on talking about "rioters". See, you hit the nail on the head. In the civilized world we demonstrate not riot. We file court petitions not threat of suicide bombing!!! Yes, this decision by the Jerusalem mayor is cowardly as he caved to threats of terror by the cowardly muslims.
44. Jason #37 Critical is one thing; slander unjust
Paqid 16 Netzarim ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (02.12.07)
I've criticised him too (above). But if you'll check his bio -- before typing -- you'd find that he served in the IDF. Further, to his credit, he established Yad Sarah. The real foul up, IMO, is that the people who voted him in were irresponsible in voting for a Khareidi mayor who seems to be simply following the Khareidi line. Why should that be a surprise? Next time don't vote in a Khareidi Mayor. Paqid Yirmeyahu Israeli Orthodox Jew Advancing Logic as Halakhic Authority Welcoming Jews & non-Jews www.netzarim.co.il
45. 41 - Bat WHAT??? You are filthy!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (02.12.07)
Anything intelligent you might have said was totally discounted by your disguisting remark concerning where I live. In any case this is not a Waqf issue! All the digging and renovations going on are within the legal jurisdiction of the City of Jerusalem - our capital!! You don't know what you are talking about!
46. Playing chicken
Chana ,   USA   (02.12.07)
Once again the Arabs play chicken and Israel losses. Just keep giving in the the Arabs, and Israel will soon dispear
47. Once again...
Mike L ,   Jax, USA   (02.12.07)
Why are we once again allowing the Muslims to riot over nothing? Obviously, no one learned a lesson from the ridiculous, uncalled for riots from the Danish cartoons. Now they are once more rioting without just cause. The new bridge and the Mugrabi Ramp are located entirely outside of the Temple Mount complex and are not part of it. The press is just sitting and waiting, which in turn incites riots. We cannot continue to appease these people. Its time to take a stand
48. Thank you

49. Mayor's SHAMEFUL SURRENDER to VIOLENCE Invites More VIOLENCE
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (02.12.07)
The weak, shameful, dhimmi mayor SURRENDERS over Judaism's HOLIEST site. Muslims know that VIOLENCE and threats of VIOLENCE always work with weak, dhimmi Infidel leaders. Eager to please the military religion of Islam, weak Israeli leaders destroy the religious freedom of NON-Muslim Infidels. Israel PERSECUTES Jews and Christians for Islam. Israel's police ARREST Jews and Christians if they PRAY or are suspected of praying on the Jewish Temple Mount. RETAKE CONTROL OVER the JEWISH TEMPLE MOUNT NOW Stop the persecution of Jews and Christians. Stop the shameful surrenders of Jewish Land and Holy Places.
50. WORLDWIDE Street PROTESTS Needed to STOP ISLAM'S DESTRUCTION
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (02.12.07)
World-wide street protests are urgently needed to STOP Islam's desecration and DESTRUCTION of the HOLIEST Place on Earth: the Temple Mount. http://www.har-habayt.org/ RETAKE CONTROL of JEWISH TEMPLE MOUNT NOW
51. Jason White#37 and Gabriela Ben Ari...

52. Once again the Olmert team strikes
Reality Check ,   BaGolan   (02.12.07)
they make excuses for the qassam strikes against Jews in Sderot, but bend over backwards to appease the Muslim terrrorists in OUR holy city AND capital.
53. Israel has no faith
Marcel ,   Florida   (02.12.07)
The nation surrenders their God given land to those intent on exterminating them and punioshes the only faithful remnant in the land who build homes to live in. Amona, Gush Katif sacrificed to the cult of death for no peace. They reward and appease evil for peace Israel ignores the Torah and lives by the Road Map. Is it any wonder why Israel has no peace ?
54. My not be popular but....
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (02.12.07)
After seeing what the Jordanians did to Mount Olive, shouldn't we, as Jews, be senistive to this kind of thing? What's wrong with postponing the work, and double checking the plans?
55. #28 and #43
Khaled ,   Lebanon   (02.12.07)
#28 Not everyone who disagrees with you is a terrorist who hides behind babies... And if you don't agree, I have nothing else to say to you. #43 Why is it that when Muslims choose confrontation it's cowardice and when Jews choose confrontation, it's bravery? It's easy to pass judgment on who's civilized on who's not when you have nothing to kill or die for. And fortunately for me I don't either. But trust me, if either of us end up in a situation, in which whether by truth or lies, we know and believe what these guys know and believe, then rioting will be the least we'll do.
56. timing?
Shoshannah ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.12.07)
#10 - so exactly WHEN will the timing be better??????
57. What is wrong with you people?
Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (02.12.07)
All this guy is proposing is a break, some time to talk about this and explain what is being done. I think that there are so many people (including myself) who don't know exactly what is being done, or whether the heavy machinery may affect the foundations of the mosque, even if this machinery is not used right on the grounds of the mosque. Most of you talkbackers call this weakness and appeasement. On the contrary, I think this is the strongest and wisest move taken thus far, and I truly respect this mayor. Also, to be very fair, if there are indeed diggings done by Muslims in the Jewish quarter, then these, too, must be investigated. I personally have not heard of these activities, even in Israeli papers, but perhaps they are true.
58. #54 and Jordanians
Rustum ,   London, UK   (02.12.07)
No one can deny that damage was done during the years of Jordanian rule - but it absolutely pales into insignificance when put next to the amount of Islamic holy sites bulldozed into rubble after 1948 - and the number of cemetaries and other religious sites which have been built on by the state after 1948. It's fine to scream about physical destruction of religious sites - but it's not fine only to notice what one side did and to ignore completely the campaign carried out by the new state after 1948 to eradicate traces of Palaestinian religious history by means of the bulldozer.
59. ANOTHER LEFTIST CAVING IN
Isidore Teitelbaum ,   east brunswick, nj   (02.12.07)
Why does this mayor think that an act of appeasement will do anything but empower the Muslims to further delay and probably cancel this work in their voyage to ultimately deny any Jewish historical existence at the Temple Mount once they have complete control -
60. #57: What's wrong with them?
Michael Steiner   (02.12.07)
Where DOES one start! Look where most of them are from. They're chickenhawks: chickens who want to play war from their armchairs in the States. Many of them aren't even Jewish but fundamentalist Xians. They want you and me to spill our blood fighting for their perverse ideas and ideals. Thank heavens they represent noone but their sick selves. The vast majority of U.S. Jews are liberal, openminded people who vote Democrat. The same is true of most Israelis. Don't get discouraged: this is not the true picture of the Jewish corpus in Israel or outside.
