It might mean more if they started by cracking down on all the anti Western and Anti-Semitic media they distribute all over the world. Go to any market frequented by Muslims here in S E Asia and you will find the most vitriolic pamphlets being freely given out stating they are printed in Saudi Arabia. For Consideration, Josef Cohen
3. I dont buy it
David Stoler   (02.12.07)
Maybe their reaching out to Amira Hass, Gideon Levy and Ilan Pappe. But Saudi Arabia is as anti Israel as they come.
4. Refuse to give up hope
Paul ,   Modi'in, Israel   (02.12.07)
No matter how many times you see things like this. No matter how many times your hopes are dashed. There will always be people like this who can think freely. It only takes a few to be successful. Refuse to give up hope - it will happen one day.

Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.12.07)
If it was meant as a joke, it's not very funny. If it was meant seriously, it's even less funny - who in their right mind would believe Saudi Arabia, the world's major exporter of fanatic religious ideas & anti-Semitism, is suddenly becoming some kind of ally? Who's kidding who here?
9. good-timing overtures
(02.12.07)
Saudia and gulf states have decided to not leave the stage for the "solo" israel's show, especially after failure of israel to achieve dashing military victory on Hezbullah.
10. IMAGINE IF ALL THE ARABS SAID TO ISRAEL: "WELCOME HOME"
andrew ,   miami,fl   (02.12.07)
IMAGINE IF YOU WILL... A WORLD WHERE ALL THE ARAB LEADERS SAID TO ISRAEL THINGS LIKE...."WELOCME HOME" - or - "YOU'VE BEEN AWAY FOR A LONG TIME...REST" - or - "WE ARE ALL ONE SEMITIC FAMILY AGAIN" - or - "JOIN US" - or how would the "middle east" change? how would israel change?
11. Not to worry, all you chickenhawks:
Michael Steiner   (02.12.07)
Israel under its present incompetent administration will spurn this outstretched hand just as it did countless others: Tunisian, Omani, Qatari, Lebanese, Palestinian and, most recently, Syrian. Any agreement on anything is impossible because of "preexisting conditions." Israel will, therefore, remain an insular society, beset by hatred from within and without, alone in a hostile region, despite all the outstretched hands. Well, that's exactly what you jerks want. So, no need to worry: Olmert & co. are actually your best friends.
12. Saudi Arabia reaching out to Israel

you can meet a girl, smile at her, shake hands with her and go out with her. But, isn't the only thing that counts is whether there are full relations?

15. To Effendi Steiner
Franck ,   Montreal, Canada   (02.12.07)
Olmert and his pals are obviously incompetent, however, there is a bunch of people much more incompetent thant these jerks: the "peace" camp. All "peace" policies proved to be major failures and proved to bring only more war, however, the "peace" camp is still claiming that the "peace" process is the "solution" while it is a final solution. You failed in the past, you are failing right now and you'll fail in the future. And since you are unable to understand the ground realities, you are turning your anger at people who don't share your views.
16. #11 Well Said Excellent Point
Mark ,   USA   (02.12.07)
They do not give the Saudi's a chance to even communicate with Israel. They are attacking Saudi Arabia when it is working for peace!! That is insane. Israel is its own worst enemy! Israel must take responsibility for its actions and inactions. Israel: Stop the blame game
17. Israel & Arabs must unite ....
Rami ,   Nazareth, Israel   (02.12.07)

Peter ,   Toronto, Canada   (02.12.07)
While I do not completely share M. Steinert's condemnation of Israeli policy, and while I hardly believe the Saudis motives are pure, Israel does nit to start to see itself as a regional player instead of merely an island. If Israel as a state is to remain a state in the long run, it must seek out common groud with its neighbours wherever it may be found. In this case, much is to be gained by talking with the Saudis who are as concerned about Iranian hegemony as Israel. Remember, the enemy of thine enemy is a friend. Between anti Iraninan sentiment and pro west agendas in Saudi arabia, they may prove to be our most important quasi - ally in the region. Israel should take the high ground. seize every opprotunity to talk to moderates in the region who have recognized the state of Israel. After all, the precedent must be set. Irael puts a premium on recognition announcing that it will not meet with Palestinians who wont recognize us. You need to bolster that position by rewarding those that do with genuine engagement.
21. The Kings...The Politicians !!!
Atilla Karagözoğlu   (02.12.07)

22. yes, there is hope
Shir ,   Helsinki, Finland   (02.12.07)
I have had a chance to meet arab immigrants from various countries and iranians. There is little hatred between local jews and moslems here, though both support their own side in the cohflict. I truly believe Israel has got a chance with the palestinians. And I base this on the chats I have had with young palestinian immigrants of my age (among other things). They are usually hostile towards jews and the israeli people, because they have often never met any jew in their life, never talked to one. They have been told that the main mission of all jews and israeli people is to kill and destroy palestinians and that the israelis plot every day trying to destroy and kill them. They have been brainwashed by their parents and relatives, who support Hamas and other terrorist organizations. The problem is, nobody has told these young people differently. Because the only approach of Israel towards them is the use of weaponry. And I fully support the israeli military force, because it is necessary. But I also think the israelis should try to interract with palestinian youth more, so the only influence on them would not be palestinian terrorist organizations. I have got one palestinian friend, who used to have a lot of prejudice against jews and considered jews as his worst enemies. He had never met one, and only believed what he had been told. Then one summer he traveled to Israel and had some good experiences with local jews and after that, he has supported Israel and understands why it is often necessary for Israel to use extensive military force. There are these smart kids in Palestine, studying in universities. They see Israel bombing their cities, people dying, but they don´t see why it is happening, nor do they ever talk to jews. It is time for israeli people to try to interract more with these young people. In time it would lead to more understanding and changing of attitudes. I also strongly believe that Iran will remain Israel´s enemy and the only way to handle Iran is powerful military action. Very few iranians, including the immigrants in Europe, strongly oppose Iran´s government, though they have had to leave their own country. Iran is Israel´s enemy number 1.
23. #15 You have a bad attitude!
Mark ,   USA   (02.12.07)
You must not listen to George Bush and the Neo Cons. The Neo Cons are all Con Artists!!!
24. Steiner back with his idiocy
Reality Check ,   BaGolan   (02.12.07)
Take reality check Steiner: These are te same Saudis who with one hand claim to reach out yet with the other continue to finance Wahabi extremism and terrorism in EVERY country, including Eurabia and the US. They are also the same Wahabis that would rather see girls roast in a school fire to protect their honour, and have openly thrown terrorthons to finance mass murder!
25. #15: that's right, sadiqi:
Michael Steiner   (02.12.07)
the only solution to the conflict is... - why, more conflict! Perpetual enmity, mistrust and isolation. What a bunch of fools those of us pursuing peace are not to see that.
26. To: Franck, Montreal
leon ,   Grand Rapids USA   (02.12.07)
You're absolutely right. I myself am a pacifist : I believe one should destroy one's enemies utterly, and then have peace - the goal of all pacifists !
27. Steiner & "chickenhawks"
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (02.12.07)
It's better to be a "chicken hawk" than a "surrender monkey." Chicken hawks eat chicken, surrender monkeys eat cheese.
28. This could work...
withheld ,   Copenhagen, Denmark   (02.12.07)
Am I the only optimist here? I know that mistrust dominates the region... But if Iran's fascist reach into Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and the Palestinian terretories is what it will take to bring Qatar, The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt closer to each other, then so be it... Here's to the future!
29. DONT YOU THINK THEY WILL WORK THROUGH CHANNELS
(02.12.07)
Not through the media if they truly sincerly wanted our help. Dont you think they would communicate through diplomatic channels such as ambassadors, through the foreign minstry. "Peace" isnt done through the media.
30. Don't Forget Ezekiel 38!
Suzanne ,   Glen Rock, Penn. USA   (02.12.07)
According to G-d's word in Ezekiel 38:13, Saudi Arabia will NOT participate in the upcoming invasion of Israel by Russia, Iran, et al. Because we know this, we should be more accepting of Saudi Arabia's offer. I usually don't trust Saudi Arabia either, but I DO trust G-d, who is behind all of these events. Only He knows what He's doing. Trust Him!
