5. Golan ONCE Belonged To Syria: Not Any More
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (02.14.07)
It was more important to Syria to try and "throw the Jews into the sea", and that's how Syria lost the Golan. Germany lost eastern Prussia the same basic way once. They also never got it back and won't be compensated for their aggression. Oh well. They learn to live without- and learn that violence doesn't pay.
6. Where the emphasis should be
Reality Check ,   BaGolan   (02.14.07)
The VAST majority of Druze living in the Golan did NOT attend this rather meager demonstration. THAT is where the news should be - the REALITY CHECK that most Druze prefer the liberties and freedoms they now have as part of the Blessed JEWISH State!
7. Who owns the Golan?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (02.14.07)
The Rothschilds bought it for cash over 100 years ago. I don't think they intended their land to be handed over to Syria.
8. Belong(ed)
Natan   (02.14.07)
What else? do you want us to provide you with the rope to hang us??? You screwed up!! Other than a couple of small villages, the Golan heights was nothing but a military area used as a staging ground to attack Israel!!! You don't really thisnk that we are than stupid to give it back doyou???
9. Most Druze prefer to live in Israel!
democracy rocks ,   dictatorship sucks   (02.14.07)
Most Druze are happy living in Israel. Most of the Druze residents of the Golan were NOT present at this rally. In a more striking example, residents of Ghajar (half in Lebanon, half in Israel) on the non-Israeli side of the divided town petitioned Israel to take charge of all areas of the town, because they preferred to be under Israeli jurisdiction. Most rational people understand that a democracy is better than a dictatorship. And as for the Arabs in the Golan protesting, a quick survey: where do Arab men have more rights, in Israel or Syria? Well, in Israel they actually get to vote in real elections...

12. Israel's Government Media Agenda
Marcel ,   Florida   (02.14.07)
The devious globalist led leaders of Israel and their propaganda machine are fedding the sheep of Israel toxic food to prepare them for slaughter and not for peace. Do not follow them to do this evil.
13. so let me get this straight
Khaled ,   Lebanon   (02.14.07)
Israel takes other people's lands. The ones that fight back in Lebanon, Gaza, and West Bank are terrorist. The ones that don't in Golan have given up their right to that land... Interesting... So when Israel takes your land, you either give it up, or you're a terrorist.
14. If they love Syria so much put them on
Allan ,   US   (02.14.07)
their donkeys and send them back!
15. Those who want to live in Syria should be deported there.
David ,   Boston, USA   (02.14.07)
Golan is part of Israel. If some of the Druze dont want Israeli citizenship, then they should be deported to Syria. If Syia really wanted peace, it would have happened. Golan is part of Israel, Lebanon is it own country. Time for Syria to realize both.
16. #2 - IS WRONG! GOLAN AND JORDAN BELONG TO ISRAEL!!!
stude ham   (02.14.07)
Not just Jordan. Olmert is an idiot for publicly flying the Golan hot air balloon. Actually... Olmert is an idiot... unqualified!
17. Golan annexation, as all land grabbing, should be celebrated
(02.14.07)
by Israel. Isn't land grab against UN charters ! It is not only arabs and Palestinians; it is also against the greater Israel's enemy; the UN.
18. few questions about the Druze of the Golan
(02.14.07)
are those Druze different from other Israeli Druze ? if, for the sake of argument, they did invite the Israelis to occupy the Golan, do you think that Israel would have the right to annex the Golan ? Do the Druze of Golan have the right to determine their own fate, other than "die or depart" ?
19. YOU START A WAR, YOU LOOSE THE WAR
D ,   centre   (02.14.07)
But you conveniently seem to forget this point....maybe before hand you should have taken some time to consider this fact and the price that you may pay for loosing. Well....now live with your mistake. Don't make us whip you again.
20. According to Arab Muslims, all of Israel belongs to them.
Avner ,   Ashdod   (02.14.07)
21. golan was never syria's...
(02.14.07)
GAMLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
22. The Spoils of War
Brod ,   USA   (02.14.07)
In War, the Winner gains territory and the Loser loses its territory to the Winner. There should be no complaints about this rule. In this case, the Loser initiated the War and lost. That is the end of the story. This is also the ultimate deterrence to would-be aggressors.
23. Kaled needs a history lesson
Sam ,   Jerusalem   (02.14.07)
Hey Kaled, You forgot you started many wars and attacks from the Golan, and you finally lost. Accept it ,and only that a fool would give it back. Also it was part of Jewish land for a long time. You don't need it except for pride. Tough.
24. To Syrian/Turkey/Iran/Iraq:: Give-up Kurdish land !!
KMR ,   Middle East   (02.14.07)
25. 20 also eilat
carol ,   eilat   (02.14.07)
next step egyptians will claim back eilat
26. Don't start a war if you're not willing to pay the price
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.14.07)
There's a precedent in customary international law that if one starts a war of aggression and loses, the loser has no claim against the winner. He can only sue for peace. Syria therefore has no legitimate claim over Golan. Olmert - playing the role of Israel's Jimmy Carter - shows his rank incompetence in national affairs by advocating the return of the Golan as the price of peace with Syria. Quite the contrary. Israel has both the right and duty to retain the Golan as payment for past aggression and as a bulwark against future aggression. Just as Syria accepted Turkey's claims to Alexandretta, it must accept those of Israel for the Golan. In return, it can reduce its own military expenditures, reduce its dependence on the likes of Iran and Russia, and - through trade and cooperation with Israel - proceed to build a better life for its citizenry. That's the deal.
27. #5
HEZBOLLAH   (02.14.07)
Do you also mean that isreal ONCE belonged to jews, and not too long ago it was controlled by arabs? until ofcourse zionists came and invaded. your country needs to learn that violence doesnt pay. you should have learnt to live without it too. the golans SHOULD belong to syria. jews have taken too many things from arabs recently.
28. Druze playing safe
bob ,   potomac md   (02.14.07)
If Israel behaved like a real country and treated the Golan as really its own and didn't issue stupid statments like giving it "back" to syria--which is a fake country anyway, the Druze wouldn't be making the pro-Assad demonstrations--to prove themselves loyal, just in case they end up under Syrian control. Syria is, essentially, an illegal drug distrubution concern headed by the Assad family--their goal has been always to control all of Lebanon and allof Northern israel and Jordan--as part of Ash-shams--the name that the Arabs called the area befor3e the word Palestine became de rigueur
29. The case is closed
Y ,   N   (02.14.07)
Golan is a part of israel and will be forever. You shouldnt even discuss golan status. The case is closed
30. interesting commentary about the Golan
Cameron   (02.14.07)
The Syrians have done nothing to curry favor or trust in the Israelis. question- Does the Golan have greater importance in 2007 as a symbolic asset or as a strategic military asset?
