1. Let The PA Collapse.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.16.07)
Pre-Oslo was better than Post-Oslo. What did we get out of Oslo? We imported a gang of thugs & terrorists, supported a corrupt bunch of thieves, & achieved nothing (unless you count increased terrorism as an achievement). The PA has been a total failure. It's passing is well deserved.
2. Dealing with Hamas
Yaakov ,   USA   (02.16.07)
The author theorizes as if Hamas is not devoted to the destruction of Israel and killing as many Jews in the process as possible. Of course, during the Holocaust there were those Jews who thought they could deal with the Nazis too, but we all know what happened to them. Let conditions in the West Bank deterioriate--maybe they will leave!!! And they will have themselves and their failed leadership to blame. Never in recorded history has the international community tried so hard to give a state to a group, while the palis do everything to sabotage these efforts. Admit it, they are not a national or ethnic group! You cannot make them into what they are not, and neither can they, for that matter. Separate from them. Bring in SE Asian workers, finish the separation barrier, and close all border crossings into Gaza and the West Bank. The biggest losers from reverting back to pre-Oslo status is the arabs, not Israel. With statehood off the table, finally, other solutions can be investigated--e.g. bribing arab countries, particularily Jordan, Syria, and Egypt to assimilate them. If it is so much trouble and delay in merely entering into preliminary negotiations, what is going to happen when Abbas makes the same demands that Arafat made at Camp David, and goes storming out, because he knows he will be assassinated if he accepts Israel's best offer, which will be far too good? This has been repeating itself since the signing of Oslo over 13 years ago. Insanity is defined as repeating the same thing and expecting a different outcome. These people cannot even abide by agreements they make with themselves, who would believe that they would abide by a treaty with Israel? Hamas has made it clear, repeatedly, they will agree to peace until they have built an army sufficient to destroy Israel, which will be their top priority. Who can make peace with such people?
3. Yes
Yasha ,   Moscow, Russia   (02.16.07)
A very good article. At least, it proposes a way out of this mess...
4. Let the PA collapse?
SD ,   London UK   (02.16.07)
then the 2 state solution will collapse with it. the west bank is still occupied territory under international law - you better get ready to start forking out some tax dollars for a palestinian health system
5. Mecca deal an Opportunity
Edward ,   Buffalo, NY, USA   (02.16.07)
Why not to give PA opportunity to collaps and to return to "square one"? What is wrong wit it? Oslo agreament failed long ago but Israel is still eating whatever was left. Let them fail. There is another alternative - Arab Autonomy. Wit correct approach and correct tools it will work much better than Palestenian State and for sure it will be much safer for all.
6. Next Mecca Deal:: Al-Qaeda(Sunni) & MahdiArmy(Shia) Unity?
KMR ,   Middle East   (02.16.07)
7. The Article Writer is JUST RIHGT !
Khalid ,   Ramalallh   (02.16.07)
Honestly, I cant beleive that ONE Israeli indivisual thinks in such a RATIONAL WAY ! I wish on the Israeli GOV to read this article and LEARN !! This is a very IMPORTANT article !! Than You Gidi Greenstein ..
8. Israel doesn't need Hudna
David   (02.16.07)
There is nothing wrong with the PA collapsing. They may come to their senses eventually and be ready for peace. In the meantime it is better to face the reality as is rather than base hopes on an illusion. The worst thing an Israeli government can do is to give in to the Palestinian blackmail or deliberately misread the situation.
9. Basic thesis of Reut
Sidney ,   USA   (02.16.07)
is that the people who want to destroy Israel also want the occupation to continue. This will cause the PA to collapse and the international community to demand a single state with one man, one-vote which the Muslims will take over in time. If you accept this theory, this column makes sense. If, like me, you do not, this column is nonsense.
10. Arabs can make a fresh start but they won't, why should they
Chanan ,   USA   (02.16.07)
They never do and always turn to the more extreme position regardless of what Israel does. Where is the author's proof to support his imaginary scenario? There is plenty of proof to the contrary in the last 12 years but the author conveniently choses to ignore all of that.
11. More "existential" threats?
new_york_loner ,   Rochester, NY   (02.16.07)
Inculcating a nation with ancient Hebrew Scripture is not enough. Perhaps Aesop's Fables ought to be included in the Ofiicial Israeli Educational Curriculum. Specifically, Israelis need to read and understand the fable known as, "The Boy Who Cried, "Wolf". The moral of that ancient parable is this, when liars tell the truth, they are never believed. The world has ben patiently enduring Israeli claims of "existential" threats ever since that dubious experiment in race-based colonialism first appeared on the world stage. First it was Egypt and Jordan that needed to be neutralized (bribed into acquiescence). Then the cry of, "Wolf!" was directed at Iraq. Now Iran is being portrayed as the region's carniverous canine. And, oh yes, lest we forget, the indigenous Arabs of Palestine have always been labeled by the Jewish colonists as being part of the wolf pack that has threatened the very existance of the Jewish theocratic state. George Bush and the de facto Israeli agents that advise him may still respond to the constant clang of Israeli alarm bells, but many Aericans are waking up. If Americans ever realize that our "War on Terror", the Afghanistan War and the Iraq War are all being waged at the behest of the Jewish State, things could real ugly for those Diaspora boys - those faith-based, race-based, war mongers who don't know a wolf from a mangy old dog.
12. Pali health care?
Jew Boy ,   MIami FL   (02.16.07)
What the hell are you talking abut. Alot of palis enjoy the medical treatment they recieve inIsraeli hospitals. Israel has been allowng them to piggy back without holding them accountable for their actions. Sometimes after a suicide attack the attackers and the victims are treated in the same hospital. So Boo freakin Hoo. Let the Palis ask the arabs to help them. Oh I forgot the arabs won't even let palis in their own countries.
13. Totally illogical article without a base in reality
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (02.16.07)
Hamas' formal charter calls for slaughtering every Jew in the world. It also negates any past, present or future peace treaty with Israel, since "the only path is that of jihad". They have not kept a single agreement with their fellow Arab Moslems, why would we trust them? Following this writer's logic, we should have supported Nazism instead of letting it collapse. I vote for letting things go back to pre-Oslo. Those accords have brought only disaster on both Jews and Arabs.
14. #12, you mean after they bomb them on a beach for example
papa jay   (02.16.07)
where the hell are you getting your info. israel lets pals receive health care in israel? are you mad? Israel feels bad after bombings on beaches so they admit pals riddled with US made shrapnel caused by "tactical errors" to israeli hospitals. other then that no one, and i mean no one can enter israel for what ever reason. we have mothers giving birth at checkpoints and you have the nuts to say pals get health care in israel. nice try.
15. #13-you defined this posting with utter perfection
Cameron   (02.16.07)
'a new diplomatic path'? 'not bearing fruit'? This posting would have us believe that peace & stability are to be found through pandering to ever more disturbing irrationality & barbarism? The answers lie within the mindset & behavior of the Pali people. Let the Pali folk stew in their own miserable pathology until they finally make a mental 'sea change' in how they view coexistence with the Jewish state & finally desire a rational, civilized reality. Madness to entertain notions of bargaining & working with groups howling for the cutting of your throat and those of your loved ones.
16. Osol-Hamas-Islamic jihad in place of Israel
Alan ,   Atlanta   (02.17.07)
Is "Reut institute" some kind of a mental institution? Who is paying to to its stuff/members? Now we all know that the goal of Oslo was islamic jihad government in place of Israel, and Hamas is the best thing that happen in Israel. You see Rabin wanted Hamas already in 1993. Everything was planned by this institution.
17. #14 Baba-Wounded Arab Terrorists are treated in Israel....
Chanan ,   USA   (02.17.07)
from their latest Hamas-Fatah infighting in Gaza. if you do not know what you are talking about then don't post.
18. #14
Jew Boy ,   Miami, Fl   (02.17.07)
I guess I must be mad. I wasn't saying they recieve healthcare. I was responding to # 4but since my comments has aroused a moron who is in denial, it seems appropriate that you consider tactical errors one sided. Hamas doesnt make tactical errors, they willingly put their people in the path of danger. Pali extremist groups have taken funds, food and medicine away from those mothers at checkpoints. So dont give me this crybaby crap, get pissed at those groups who favor Palestinian "refugees" at checkpoints. Instead of Palestinian nationals functioning in a modern state. Yes Israel makes tactical errors, but these errors are from strategic methods that are used against it from these so called freedom fighters.
19. Better to deal with Hamas
malcolm   (02.18.07)
Working with the PA is like working with the fiend Arafat. ...Lies on the surface and treachery behind the back. With Hamas, what you see is what you get. They are learning from the Saudis how to "play ball" and Haniyeh wears Armanis to look legitimate, but we know exactly where they stand.
