61. EU membership is good for all ...
Rami from Nazareth ,   Israel NOT Palestine   (02.22.07)
As a Israeli Arab, I think it is good for all Israeli, Jews and Arabs. Membership in the EU will require israel to eliminate all discrimination based on race, color or religious and to pass law to eliminate racism.

Absolutely Not! Israel is not part of Europe. Palestine will want to join next and so will all the others.
65. Papa Jay
Jane   (02.22.07)
The "settlers" are not the cause of a lack of peace. Greedy, selfish, hate-filled Palestinians are the problem. If what you say were true, there would have been a Palestinian state in 1947 or 1967 or 2000 or any time in between. Why do people like you know nothing about the history of the situation? Oh, perhaps you do but it is so much more your preference to blame the Jews.
66. If EU membership was ever offered its bad news for Israel
zionist forever   (02.22.07)
Politcly the EU are much more in favour of the arab cause than the US is so Israel would be preasured into making alot more concesions to the arabs because thats what the rest of the EU wanted and if Israel was in the EU the US wouldnt be defending Israels interests. Israel gets $2.2 billion in millitary aid and the US helps finance certain projects there is no way that will continue if Israel is in the EU and I cant see Germany doing much more than subsidsing the cost of some submarines. The US will usualy be willing to use its veto in the UN to defend Israels interests there once Israel has allied itself with Europe there will be no more American veto. EU laws say borders must be open to all EU member states and there must be a right for citizens of those countries to come and work in Israel so instead of trying to cut down on the number of foreign workers which is going on now that number would probably go up along with Israeli unemployment. The EU would never accept the alliya laws which give jews an automatic right to emigrate to Israel but no other group gets those rights the politciy correct EU doesnt would see it as discrimination and Israel would be told either end the law of return or get out the EU. EU law overides all laws made by the ellected Israeli governments. What would Israelis gain from EU membership and wh`at would they loose?
67. #46: Yasher koakh! Finally a voice of reason
Michael Steiner   (02.22.07)
68. #27- get real, man
Cameron   (02.23.07)
Europe couldn't care less about Israel's 'very big hand of friendship.' The EU would sell you off to the Arabs in a hot second. The Indians & Chinese would fight for the chance(and profit, always profit!) of giving you to the Islamic world on a silver platter. This 'one-sided connection with America' is, and will always be, the most important factor in Israel's relationship with the outside world. Why? Because America is your ONLY REAL FRIEND on the planet! hard cold reality, friend
69. #27 - Simon - A referendum
Tracy W   (02.23.07)
There's one thing on your TB that I just noticed and that I support wholeheartedly: a referendum in Israel. It has always amazed me how a very unpopular PM has the power to decide on land sovereignty, Arab right of return, borders, etc. without consulting the population. It's not enough that there was an election in the past. This is not a minor issue. This is irreversible and it's going to affect Israel for ever, if it can survive Olmert's arrangements.
70. To Roxy
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.24.07)
Cyprus is also in the EU . An island , not part of the European continent , and not even part of Europe . Cyprus is an Asian island .
71. Polls and Europe
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.24.07)
511 people are enough for a poll , with an error margin of 4.5 % . Europe is the greatest trade partner of our country . We have already many accords regarding cooperation with the EU . This in many fields . Research is done with EU funds , Israelis are working on many projects financed by the EU . People who don't know anything about Europe say "never" . You don't know how it is to travel freely around there , you don't know what a wealth the EU has brought to the Europeans . Israel has a western democratic culture , geographically in Asia , but that's not a problem , Cyprus is also geographically situated in Asia .
72. And all EU doesn't want you
(02.28.07)
73. WHAT!!!
