1. SOMMER MEETING
Edy Burak ,   aventura   (02.28.07)
I READ THIS , IS VERY INTERESTING I WORK WITH GERMANS AND I LIKE to DISCUSSE ALWAYS WITH THEM THEIR PARENTS ROLE AT THIS TIMES.....
2. Forgive but never forget
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (02.28.07)
This is all very nice and heart-warming, but the facts of the holocaust and of German national anti-semetism have not changed. While this meeting might have been a good idea, and we should offer the Germans as much forgiveness as we can, we must never forget what they did to us and we must always treat them with suspicion. What is more, the same goes for the Arabs and in their case a certain degree of hostolity is also called for, because unlike the Germans who tried to destroy us in the past, the Arabs are trying to destroy us right now.
3. Dissolve Both Past
BP   (02.28.07)
The Jewish past is a tragedy. You can imagine, our parents were not saints. Sorry for those who were killed. Like then, now too, there is enough dirty laundry not be loved. The German parents were also extremely guilty. Dissolve both pasts, Discard your anger! ------------------------------- Start a new life. -------------------------------- Be an Israeli, post Israeli, or anything - and less Jewish.
4. Prof. Somer
Hansje   (03.01.07)
It's real funny, jewish prof. Somer looks like a german and german prof. Hossbach looks like a "Muselman"( name given by the SS to the concentration camp inmates)...
5. sun of the beach

6. on and on and on and on and.......
syd ,   NYC USA   (03.01.07)
Bit like the child of a victim at Deir Yassim meeting Begin's offspring.
7. #3, those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
Zvi ,   USA   (03.01.07)
Jews must never again allow themselves to be slaughtered as they were by the Nazis. We must remember, because the Nazis were not the last to dream of a world without Jews. Former German president Richard von Weizsäcker said that without remembrance, there can be no reconciliation. In order to be reconciled, both Germans and Jews must remember. Memory need not hold either the Jews or the Germans back. The memory of WW2 and the Holocaust caused significant changes in German culture, and in many individual Germans. These changes should be honored; they are for the better. We should welcome with open arms Germans who wish to befriend the Jews. And Israel and Germany can be allies. Strong allies. We must always remember what was done to us. But we do not need to be prisoners of that memory.
8. Friends then, friends now .
Yaakov ,   Montreal, Canada   (03.01.07)
What's the surprise ? If Zionist patriarch Rudolph Kastner dined with Von Becher and Eichman in Berlin, why shouldn't his monkeys forget and forgive. You would forgive Hitler before you forgive Boruch Goldstien !
9. What is wrong with BP #3?
Michael U ,   SF,CA   (03.01.07)
BP, What is wrong with you? How can you make such an insensitive statement as you made. You expect Jews, my family, to take such a ludichrist "Im sorry" as you wrote? And to top it all off you implore us to not be Jewish. What chutzpah!?!? Judaism has survived over 3500 years and will survive till the end of days. Antisemitism is caused by hatred of Jews not because the Jews hated Germans. Please take your pathetic apology back to Germany where you belong...
10. What is it will you leftists?
Mike Jefferson ,   Washington D.C.   (03.01.07)
Why do you have to "understand" abject evil? With that kind of mindset, you're better off talking to a rabid dog. See it for what it is and move on. Perhaps it would be more benefit if you studied virtue.
11. To forgive
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.01.07)
We have to forgive , we can not hate this people forever . Those Germans , living today , are certainly not guilty of the crimes comitted by their grandparents . Imagine a young german boy , aged 6 in 1933 . Who during all his childhood received a brainwashing against the Jewish people . What could come out of this ? Is this boy guilty ? Some of them were so violently pro germans that they denounced their parents for anti german behaviour . The same occured in the former "socialist" republics . To come in contact with Germans is not easy for us . I was obliged to go to Germany in 1955 , ten yeras after the end of WWII . A strange feeling every time i saw a German aged thirty or more . What did he did during the war ? was always on my mind . We can not forget , we may not forget , but we have to forgive . And what has "leftist" to do with this problem , you guy of Washinton ? ?
12. 11Charles-I look at Germans over80 today &ask myself same Q
Alan ,   SA   (03.04.07)
13. RE: 'I wanted to look monster in the eyes'
Max ,   Arlington USA   (03.06.07)
It was his father who commited the acts. You write and speak as if the innocent children of these people are guilty as well for their parents actions. Either it is a slow news day and the author was searching for any possible link to a "Nazi" subject or this is just weak. Seek help.
14. The Children Are Not Responsible
K ,   Mobile, AL   (03.11.07)
Children are not responsible for what their parents have done. Or their grandparents, or their great parents. I am the descendant of slave owners--does that make me responsible for slavery?? Should I apologize? Should I ask for mercy for my crimes against humanity?
15. Article about General Hossbach
Marcel Plagge ,   The netherlands   (05.10.07)
Hi , I have red the article from Prof. Eli Somer about Hitlers Adjudant Friedrich Hossbach. I know Prof. Hossbach myself and I know details about General Hossbach. This general was a real soldier and not a NAZI at all. He even saved a lot of soldiers lives because he pulled back against Hitler's orders because he did not wanted a second Stalingrad. For this action he was fired by Hitler and almost arrested by the Gestapo. So please do not call General Hossbach a NAZI again.
