1. Greatest mistake? Yet they learn not
Reality Check ,   BaGolan   (02.26.07)
A consul claims 1492 expulsion AND GENOCIDE of Jews in Spain was their "greatest mistake" yet today, the Spaniards surrendered again to terrorists, and have elected a Prime Minister who has OPENLY voiced his admiration of Hitler.
2. Sorry, You are not forgiven
(02.26.07)
You and all of Europe are guilty of slaughtering and expelling Jews. All you gained was turning all your countries into Third worlds with Moslems ready to attack when they get the okay. I just hope America and Israel learns from History it aint worth messing with G-ds chosen nation.

You and all of Europe are guilty of slaughtering and expelling Jews. All you gained was turning all your countries into Third worlds with Moslems ready to attack when they get the okay. I just hope America and Israel learn from History it aint worth messing with G-ds chosen nation. Baruch Hashem, Thank G-d that he never leaves his children stranded. Wherever we were exiled from there was always a nation willing to accept us like Turkey until they themselves turned their backs on us. In 1492 G-d helped Columbus some saying he was a Marrano Jew discover America. After the holocaust G-d gave us Israel back so we can keep on going until the end when we will be redeemed from Galut and its sufferings
4. Take Your Apology & Shove It.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.26.07)
Eurabians love to apologize for the rotten things they did to us in the past. But Spain continues to be the most anti-Israel country in the EU. I always say this - Europeans love dead Jews but are not fond of live ones.
5. To #1-4 if that is how you feel you best isolate yourselves
American Patriot ,   United States   (02.26.07)
from America as well as Europe. We Americans despise rascism, and that uncludes your hatred for Europe and Europeans.
6. What about the 38 years you ignored us, pendejos???
Benezra ,   Ashdod   (02.26.07)
7. To American Patriot my butt
(02.26.07)
Who the hell mentioned anything about hate. We only hate guys like you that put words in peoples mouths to make them look bad and raise your ego. Am I forced to forgive a country that killed or expelled my ancestors to not be called a racist. By the way I also despise racism that is why I don't forgive the countries that were racists on my people.
8. To #5 - American "Patriot"
Reality Check ,   BaGolan   (02.26.07)
If you despise racism, perhaps you can explain why Zapatero has OPENLY voiced his admiration of Hitler?
9. # 5 is a JOKE
Isragirl ,   NJ, USA   (02.26.07)
Americans despise racism, yeah, right. A racist and isolated nation on occupied lands that craves world domination at all cost... Please, teach us more about the moral international conduct you've been displaying...
10. "Almost barbaric"? It's called ETHNIC CLEANSING
Zvi   (02.26.07)
The Alhambra Decree was a piece of unprovoked viciousness. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhambra_decree Yes, the expulsion of 1492 and the subsequent inquisition were huge mistakes. However, they happened 500+ years ago. In more recent years, thanks for passing a law allowing Sephardim to claim Spanish citizenship, though Jews have our own homeland back, finally, and no longer need to be exiled to yours.

12. When will Israel apologise for the expulsion of the Palestin
Apartheid ,   Boston USA   (02.27.07)
Palestinians. Before you say they went willingly, go read a book.
13. "ALMOST " barbaric ?
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (02.27.07)
What constitutes - total- barbarity then ?????
14. As usual, everybody forgets...
enzo ,   london,uk   (02.27.07)
that in 1492 Sicily was also part of the Spanish Empire. Jews had lived happily on the island for several centuries before the expulsion! And trust me on this: it was alot easier to escape from Spain to a neighbouring country, than from an island in the middle of the Mediterranean. So...please tell me, who has to apologise for the expulsion of 60.000 Jews from Sicily? And why don't they ever mention Sicilian Jews?! One last question which I always wanted to ask: if the Sephardim are the Jews originally from the Iberian peninsula and the Ashkenazim from Eastern Europe, who are the Sicilian Jews? Are they Sephardim or not?

The Jews in Spain didn't hurt anyone. The Palestinians on the other hand cannot live in peace in Israel.
16. Europe have breaken all world records in anti-racism
Max Martin ,   Sweden   (02.27.07)
The problem is that the politicians don't seem to grasp the concept of the golden middlepath. Therefore they have accepted mass immigration which is the opposite of expulsion and soon muslims will be the majority in Europe.
17. To #7,#8,#9 #11, #12, and #14
American Patriot ,   United States   (02.27.07)
Calling entire continents of millions of people anti-semites, and insulting Spain without any supporting evidence is bigotry plain and simple, and #7 yes yes you are forced to forgive a country that expelled your ancestors to not be a rascist because there is not a single Spainiard responsible for it alive, so hating todays Spainiards on account of 1492 is rascist. #8 I never said I supported Zapetero, I consider his appeasement policy bad for the world, bad for the West, and bad for Spain, as do many Spaniards which is why his aproval rating is amongst the lowest of any politician. However Zapetero being bad does not give you a liscence to copy it. To #11 How very articulate a response, care to elaborate? If you don't see why blanket statements against entire nations and continents are rascist then you are as bad as #1-4. To #5 Another America hating leftist wonderful. Well if America is so horrible why do you stay? Why are our borders packed with immigrants? Just another question, do you consider yourself brave for insulting your own country? #12 You should read a book, may I suggest one that is not written by an anti-semite? #14 Good question. I would say the Spanish because they are the ones who expelled the Jews, not the Sicilians or their Norman rulers who preceded Spanish rule.

20. Stop complaining
Alex ,   Toronto,Canada   (02.27.07)
I want to state some obvious things: We cannot change the past. We cannot atone for the past (simply because the people involved have been dead for a long time). All we can do is learn the lessons of history and move forward. Every generation should be responsible for their own deeds. I can’t honestly blame Germans born in the sixties for what happened during the Nazi era. I can’t honestly blame current generation of Spaniards for the events of 1492. History punished them enough-Spain is one of the most backward countries of Europe. People leaving in the past forfeit their future. Constant complaints of past injustices are a sure sign of people enjoying being victims. The reason, of course, is that victim hood comes with certain benefits. One can only look at the fate of Palestinian people. Instead of trying to build a future for themselves they prefer to live off the world’s handouts. It is so much easier then working hard for your future but it takes you nowhere.

is not a mistake. It's simply a moral crime.
24. Number 17 the patriotic fool
leon ,   Grand Rapids USA   (02.27.07)
Recalling history is not a slander, but an existential recognition. Ghettos, expultions (not only Spain and Portugal but also England), pogroms, laws excluding jews from occupations and professions, and , and crowning it all, the Final Solution. You haven't lived in Europe. I have. The Jew-hatred is ingrained into every facet of European culture. Alswas has been and always will be.

charles ,   petach tikva   (02.27.07)
Stop telling that god gave us Israel back . It were the 6000 , mostly seculars if not anti religious who fell in the battles who deserve this land . What god gave us ? 6 million murdered people .
26. Forget , never . Forgive ? YES
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.27.07)
If we had to hate all those people who in history behaved on a barbaric way towards their Jewish citizens , who can we love ? Maybe some countries where Jews had not such an impact as the European Jews in their countries . What are the Spaniards of today guilty of the crimes comitted 20 generations ago ? We have to forgive those who did it , and not to accuse those living today .
27. Charlie hypocrit I hope you are speaking
BUSH ,   USA   (02.27.07)
for yourself alone. You say "We have to forgive those who did it , and not to accuse those living today ". Why don't you get over the holocaust and forgive them already. And if you so believe G-d caused it to happen because He hates Jews then why the heck did we have in every generation nations standing up to annihilate us. Yet as we get knocked down we just seem to always get up again. If G-d hated you and the Jews why doesn't He wipe you out himself with a quick earthquake or flood. Why does He use pawns like Spain , Rome, Greece, or Germany that do it for Him. If he hates you why didn't He kill you already. If He doesn't hate you or you are just an atheist then why are you being tortured and suffering not once or twice but in every single generation for the past 3000 yrs and still till today. If we had to hate all those people who in history behaved on a barbaric way towards their Jewish citizens , who can we love ? Did you ever think of loving your brothers the Jewish people. If you saw hitler one day again would you forgive him for what he did to your family. If not why would you ever forgive Queen Isabella, Priests of those generations Titus, Sultans of turkey etc. Do you need to love anti semites of the past. Why not love your ancestors of the past that lived their lives keeping the Torah instead. GET A HISTORY CHARLES otherwise you are bound to kiss the person who wants to kill you
28. Leon , grand rapids
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.27.07)
No Leon , you are wrong . I have certainly lived much more than you in Europe , and know much better the situation there . I had many non Jewish friends , neigbours and so on . Most of them knew that i'm Jewish , their culture is not as you say antisemite . If this was as you said it , there would have been NO survivors after the Shoa . You are right , in history there were many obstacles to Jews in many fields . But this is history , not happening anymore . I don't say that there are no antisemites in Europe , but it's not European culture . And don't forget , you had also many problems in the USA .
29. Bushy
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.27.07)
Try to understand what i'm writing . we have to forgive those who did it [ 20 generations ago ] and not to accuse those living today [ the Spanish people of the 21th century ] Are the Germans from today guilty of the crimes comitted by their grand parents ? no . We have to forgive those criminals , not accuse those who are their descendants . Yes i forgive all those who did it in the past . They are already dead since many years . Regarding god , i have explained my position already enough times . I love my ancestors , even i didn't know many of them , and i can accuse he who permitted those crimes to happen , who did not prevent them , or the worst , who wanted them to happen . Enough reasons not to believe , and to ask you HOW CAN YOU BELIEVE after the SHOA . How do you dare to tell that he protect us ? For me the tora is a fantastic history book , and i don't need religious laws to behave as a "mensch" . I don't need religious rules to live in my "HISTORICAL" home , and have certainly not to receive lessons from a galut "jew" .
30. Almost...(and #10)
paul ,   austin, USA   (02.27.07)
Indeed, it is too late for this. Spaniards still see antisemtism as part of "their culture" with their vile passion plays and gross cariacatures of Jews. Thanks, #10 for clarifying things, but I must express that Zionism as it is is hardly a lifesaver for Jews. More like a death sentence, actually. As for "American Patriot", get a clue. Racism is alive and well in the US, and the US has been essentially built by racism (via slavery or manifest destiny). If that's not enough, take into account the blatant bigotries of the Jim Crow laws, the Chinese Exclusion Act, and the Patriot Act (racial profiling of anyone w/an "arab-y" name, including Mizrachim). Any attempts to whitewash these sad realities will expose you as a hypocrite.
