Look what the Russians have done to Chechniya. Isn't that an occupation? How many Muslim Chechens have been killed? Tens of thousands? But then Russia has no trouble supporting Hamas & even funnier, Hamas has no trouble accepting Russian diplomatic help. Imagine what Russia would do to Palestinians if this was their problem.

Nothing less would work for Palestinians. Both Fatah and Hamas are backed not by Russia but by nearly all arab states. So it is in their power to restrain Mashaal and his gang. Russian politics aren't public so one has to guess what was discussed between Putin and king Abdallah in Emirates and Jordan. What sheikhs have never said to Putin and will deny it at all occasion, but Mashaal it relayed to Lavrov. Because Russia now is a state not a movement (communist I mean) it deals now with states (which are Israel, Saudi Arab etc) and not with movements like Hamas. It is hard to find a way to persuade sheikhs to accept the existing of Israel, but if any such power does exist it lies now in Russia. We do not threaten to bomb no-one into oblivion nor do we buy our way. We respect their right to have opinion against Israel but we know that opinion is wrong. It is not uncommon in the east to have no reverse gear, as Ahmadinejad has declared lately but it always is possible to manoeuvre to get to the right course. The main difference between Soviet and Russia is that Russia does recognize Israel. And we do not like terrorists in any form. Look what we did with those in Chechniya. BTW they had about 5 years of muslim experience before war. Before that they were standard soviet citizens.
