When a country comes under attack leaders should rise to the occasion. It is very unfortunate that Israeli leaders did not have compassion or offer words of support to the people under siege. One particular comment by the PM burned into me like a knife. He told the people of Sderot to stop complaining and be thankful they are alive. Only someone who is not elected by the common people would make such a statement. Instead of broadcasting messages of hope and determination the silence from Israel’s top leaders fostered an air hopelessness. In Briton during World War 2 Winston Churchill gave many speeches daily to keep British Moral high. The lessons of those times feel pathetically short in Israel, I guess the leaders were to busy taking care of stocks and bonds to notice.

We know that Olmert and his government did squat in their oficial governmental capacity. Now the question is what did they and their families contribute as private citizens.

yes it is a fact that the citizens of Israel, from the not so well off to the rich helped the Northern residents more than the government, many gave sanctuary in their homes ,while the gov, did nothing. Thank Gd for those generous people, as well as the Millionaire who provided a tent city. It is a pity that the Government was not able to help much at all,and that instead the people had to jump in, the government must get its act together before the next war,prepare ahead of time, don't jump into a war without protecting the homefront first!
