14. Symptomatic of a lack of discipline
Phil ,   US   (03.10.07)
There are limits to democratic expression in the military and Israel has not come to grips with the need to enforce these limits. Soldiers who refuse to serve in the territories, reservists who give lectures in the United States about Israeli oppression of the Palestinians, and malfeasance by commanders must be dealt with immediately and strongly. For those who refuse to serve and those who give propaganda victories to the enemy, harsh punishment is warranted. For those commanders who are lazy and/or incompetent, dismissal and punishment is also appropriate. This is not a min or issue. Israel's survival depends on a strong IDF. Of course, what can you expect from mere soldiers considering the incompetence and corruption of government leaders.
15. this is the diffrence
(03.10.07)
between people believes in what and for what they are fighting and others they don't understand for what they are fighting .
16. No, the reason you'll lose the next war...
Mike Jefferson ,   Washington, D.C.   (03.10.07)
is because of the arrogant attitudes that soldiers like yourself take. I'm sure that the fighters in '48 didn't bemoan the fact that they were using WWI era bolt-action rifles? They were tough and didn't complain. I'm surprised that you didn't whine about the lack of air-conditioning in the field! The truth is that Jihadi Johnnie who wants to kill you will sleep in crap, eat crap, and blow himself up to take you out, because he thinks life is crap. So, get it together and demonstrate some pioneering spirit instead of demonstrating an "American" style complacency.
17. #16- 'American' style complaecency?
Cameron ,   USA   (03.10.07)
Mike, you wound me so
18. #7 TO MAHMOOD.....PROVES NOTHING.EXAMPLES LIKE THIS ANYWHERE
Scott ,   OLMERT OUT   (03.10.07)
So what , we hear a beat up story about a disaffected IDF reservist complaining about the system they're working in. But even in the best organization , not just military - you will find disent to some degree or another. If you or others were to somehow interpret this as a 'sign' generally of Israel's ability to defend itself - well, you have just displayed the same foolhardy , over confidence as your arab brothers of all the ME wars over the last 70 years. If it does prove anything it serves to show that Olmert must go and another more competent leader must take over. And believe me he WILL GO.
19. cool.nice stories. more of this please.

21. Unfit officers
rickmd03 ,   Bmore   (03.11.07)
The US military officer core is filled to capacity with liars who follow the politcal expedient and insist that there are no problems adjusting their units to the presence of women. ANy officer who WILL lie about this is promoted and any officer who will not lie is passed over for promotion. It seems that the litmus test for Israeli officers has become who is willing to throw Jews out of the territories and who is not. The willing were promoted and the unwilling were passed over. This under the Sharon regime. You are now paying the price. Gabi needs to get the "dead wood" out. Remember this: There is a place a commanded blessing: where bretheren dwell in UNITY. TO which I would add: DO all you can to presevre and enhance the UNITY of the Jews of Israel. An American Christian.
22. is olmert a double agent being paid by iran?
debra ,   usa   (03.11.07)
what else explains his lack of concern for israel and its safety.
23. Yesha youth in the IDF
Tracy W   (03.11.07)
A few months ago Arutz Sheva reported of how Yesha kids who want to enlist are subjected to special scrutiny. They are taken aside and interrogated as to their beliefs and politics and then too often rejected on the basis of "mental instability". They are just not wanted. Without offense to any other Israeli, the Yesha youth are particularly determined to defend Israel, so keeping so many out of the IDF is unfair, shortsighted and ultimately damaging to the safety of the country, should another war occur soon.
24. the next war

25. Young jewish people
David ,   Sydney, Australia   (03.11.07)
Look at how Israeli children are treated like prince(cess) by their parents and you will see why Israel is not churning out soldiers. Young Israelis expect to fight the war from an airconditioned bunkers with headsets with direct lines to their mothers and girfriends and not suffer any casualties
26. Wasn't the defense budget reduced?

30. Israeli Leaders ALLOWED HAMAS to Build Massive WAR FORTRESS
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (03.11.07)
The evil refusal of Israeli leaders to destroy the Hamas stronghold which threatens the lives of huge numbers of Jewish innocents places Israel's leaders on the side of the terrorists against the Jewish people! DEBKAfile Exclusive: Hamas recycles Gush Katif rubble to fortify 50 sq. km of war bunkers on Gaza Strip-Egyptian border March 5, 2007 Hizballah model for Hamas bunker fortress in Gaza Beneath the Rafah-Philadelphi border region between Gaza and Egyptian Sinai, the Palestinian Hamas has built a vast underground stronghold. A separate series of secret tunnels snakes under another Gaza border into western Israel. Senior Israeli military sources describe the Rafah-Philadelphi warren as spreading over 50 sq. km. It consists of a net of multipurpose, well-furnished tunnels, designed by Syrian and Hizballah army engineers for combat against tanks and armored infantry and equipped with thousands of the latest anti-tank missiles. It takes Hamas two and a half weeks to excavate one kilometer under ground. “They should never have been allowed to build this fortress. We should have stopped it long ago,” said one high officer. DEBKAfile’s military sources disclose that Israel’s heads of government and military knew what was going on, but did not raise a finger to stop the construction of Hamas’ buried stronghold. Neither did any responsible official or officer question Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s decision to abstain from military action to knock it out before its completion. Rather than feeding the Palestinian population, Hamas is sinking every incoming cent in its war preparations. “We are no longer looking at dirt trenches that cave in but military bunkers in every sense, modeled on the ones used by Hizballah in southern Lebanon last summer. Destroying this monster facility or putting it out of action at this point will mean heavy casualties.” Composed of narrow subterranean tunnels that link the broader passages connecting Gaza and Sinai, the Hamas facility provides passage for troop reinforcements and ordnance supplies. Their walls are made of reinforced concrete that can withstand shelling and bombs. Ceilings and walls are lined with concrete debris taken from the ruins of Gush Katif, the Israeli community whose homes the Israeli army tore down during the pullback from the Gaza Strip in 2005. Hundreds of laborers employed by Hamas have hauled 30,000 blocks and chunks of concrete from the rubble of Ganei Tal for lining the walls of their bunkers. The Hamas fortress has installed the water pipe system of Netzarim and Netzer Sereni. http://www.debka.com/headline.php?hid=3899 Eager to duplicate the terrorist success of Gaza, the U.S. EU UN immorally demand Israel surrender the Jewish ancestral homeland of Judea and Samaria to global jihadists bent on Israel's annihilation and the destruction of all of civilization.
