1. Let them have equality.
Benjaimin ,   TA Israel   (03.13.07)
Exactly the same amount of money per student.
2. Another unwanted Yossi Beilin article pushed on us !
redmike ,   tel aviv and london   (03.13.07)
Ynet knows that more than 95% of Israelis have no interest in Beilin whatsoever or perhaps consider him harmful to the State of Israel. Why then does he continually get so many column inches that others with more influence are denied ? Meretz will probably fail to qualify for the Knesset after the next round of elections (which will hopefully be very soon) - so enough of Beilin and his fringe party - please !
3. Local authorities and school funding
roxy ,   israel   (03.14.07)
How do you expect local authorities to fund some schools when many of them still have not paid their employees salaries from months ago, and that is why on March 21 the Histradrut declared a strike will occur? Won't youridea lead to bigger strikes when the local authorities cannot pay the schools because they don't have money to pay them just like they don't have money to pay their workers? This is the stupidist thing I have heard in a long time!
4. Why Eeilin is against funding these Jewish schools
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (03.14.07)
... because they teach Torah values and a love of Zion. The inculcation of these fundamental values is vital to the future and survival of Israel and the Jewish people. If you doubt this, just take a look at what an educational system without Torah and Zionist values breeds: a generation of Olmerts, Peretzes, and Beilins.
5.  BEILIN IS CORRECT !
RCA ,   USA   (03.15.07)
Private schools require private support and not from taxpayers money. The issue is one of justice and honesty. The public and the private sectors must remain separate. Each must provide for their own needs. This is fair and just. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH. Everything has a price and must be paid for by someone. Sure, there is a place for programs for the poor and needy, but this is not the same situation. PROBLEMS ALWAYS BEGIN WHEN FUNDS FOR THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS ARE MIXED OR SHARED. This has been major problem in Israel . IT IS A FLAW IN THE SYSTEM AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. When the government puts its big hand into the pocket of the general public, takes money, and then gives it to a group not considered to be the general public, for special privilages, it has perpetrated a crime and social injustice. The general public are the victims and feel it most. This creates resentment and the on-going problems of societal management. Government should fund the public schools only. Private schools should find their own funding for their own special needs and preferences outside of the state. Otherwise , those in the private sector may attend the public shools with the general public. This approach builds self-reliance, reduces problems, and is fair, honest and just, and has had enduring success in the West.
6. Minister Meshulam Nahari Bill
Meir Hertz ,   Lakewood, NJ   (03.20.07)
Passage of the Nahari Bill is long overdue. When enacted, it will eliminate a decades-long violation of human rights and religious freedom in Israel. Namely, the discriminatory policy under which children in private religious schools are treated as second-class citizens by virtue of the fact that their schools are targeted for sharply reduced public funding. This historic accomplishment - - equalizing public funding for all schools on the basis of uniform criteria, regardless of whether the school is public or private, religious or secular - - is a major milestone in advancing religious freedom in Israel. It is a cause for joy, not only for religious students and their parents in Israel, but for defenders of human rights the world over. This legislation will finally enable all parents in Israel to freely choose the best school for their children, unburdened by inequitable access to local and State government funding. Equal municipal taxation without equitable participation by all schools results in "Secular Coercion" under which the chardeim end-up subsidizing the secular school systems. The Nahari Bill will put an end to this 'Secular coercion'.
