only 71% of chredim say they wouldnt object? What a load of.... This in itself shows that this survey is b.s.
2. Religious = Religious Reform but that's not "surprising"
David ,   Jerusalem   (03.13.07)
secular=reform=conservative=Israeli All the same. Actually, Israeli can mean non-Jew too.
3. Instead of being proud of these finding,
Ezra ,   Israel   (03.13.07)
it's something TO MOURN ABOUT.
4. All great lies contain some truth...
Shlomo ,   Israel   (03.13.07)
This article is important for both its true statements and its blatantly false ones. It is true that the majority of people in Israel have a new religion, and let's call it "Israelism". That point is correct that most are more identified with being Israeli, than Jewish....But as the prior comment pointed out, the survey about the religious community is completely false...13% of religious people would have "no problem" with child marrying non-Jew as long as they are Israeli citizen? That is not serious is it? In any case, let's discard the religious survey, yet pay big attention to the true part--the shedding of Judaism for Israelism is a shocking, widespread, and suicidal trend for the modern state of Israel....
5. Agree with #1 This poll is intentional unintentional flawed

6. Polled "Israelis" - including 20% which are Arab?

#1: Signing your name would give you more credibility, I suppose you expect the 'datim' to be 100% against intermarriage, but apparently a minority among them would press for a legitimate conversion. Quote article:"One surprising finding was that 13 percent of religious people said that they did not regard it as a problem, as long as the bride had Israeli citizenship." So an aggregate 87% would see a problem instead of 57% orthodox and 71% Charedi. Arranged marriages by a Shadchan fall outside of this of course.
8. #4 ...and all great truths....
Kate ,   Jerusalem   (03.13.07)
Here is the greatest truth of them all: ISRAELISM: The Modern state of Israel was founded on this very principle. It was built up on this very principle. The brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in and up to '48 - did so within this principle. I'm personally glad that it is as widespread as this. Our "Jewish Nation" was not built upon the narrow confining bridges of Halacha. Freedom and human respect is the direction we started with - and should always continue with.
9. SURVEY WAS TAKEN
..............DACON9   (03.13.07)
YES THE SURVEY MUST HAVE BEEN TAKEN IN: LOCAL CHURCHES REFORMED DEFORMS secularist meeting places BUDDIST MESSIANIC CHURCHES and other assorted meaningless places
10. We need a reasonable conversion process for them
Ronny ,   TA   (03.13.07)
Note that does not mean a quickie nonsense reform conversion. Conversely, the Israeli rabbinate currently makes it itoo difficult. So, a reasonable middle-of-the -road path is needed.
11. truths #8
avi ,   nj   (03.13.07)
You mean truths like secular Kastner's telling Transylvanian Hareidim that there was nothing to fear and that they should sit put and relax. Truths like pais cutting the Yemenite
12. An interesting observation
Shalom   (03.13.07)
As of now - 7:25 pm on Tuesday (Israel time) there are 3 anti-religious articles posted on your English website. Hasn't YNet got anything better to print?
13. The more and more I read what is happening in Israel the
Al   (03.13.07)
more I simply want to give up on it. Israel has become a laughing stock of the Jewish Nation. Not to say other places in the world are doing better, but Israel is certainly hitting rock bottom. Nothing like a kick up the ass will jump start the brain thinking. I am only afraid many many Jews will end up dead.
14. Hardly news
Paul ,   Austin, USA   (03.13.07)
Israel is a secular (well, so we're told) state that sends totally mixed messages about who is a Jew...so why should the secular public care? Yet another reason why zionism as it is is bad for Judaism.
15. Yes that means more religious less secular Jews
(03.13.07)
16. Why discourage the "ultra-orthodox" inclined
Abdullah ,   EuMe   (03.13.07)
I think some of these articles are carefully designed to discourage charedim and potential "mithachelim" from moving to israel. That said I think ynet is quite balanced. And I guess it is good for those wishing to go to Israel to know before hand what to expect socially.
17. Ynet
jack ,   Usa   (03.13.07)
Is the worst thing fhat ever happened to the Jews. I never have seen such self hating jews in my life. Your articles contain your guilt for living Immoral Lives.

B"H Like many surveys, I also think this is b.s. The number of 309.000 is so incredibly much! Pfff...
20. can the sons in law be arabs so
mazen   (03.13.07)
maybe we can end this conflict in the bedroom?
21. 29% of charedim pro-intermarriage, simply aren't charedim
Ariel ,   jerusalem   (03.13.07)
you cant believe god wrote the torah and then say well he didnt mean that part. what kind of fool would believe that a charedi person would be pro intermarriage. that in and of itself is an anti jewish outlook. you cant be a socialist and then be a capitolist on some things. that dosent work water and oil my friends. water and oil
22. The Zionist Dream Has Been Fulfilled!
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (03.13.07)
"57 percent of seculars don't mind son marrying non-Jewish immigrants" All I can say is, "See you around fellas. It was nice having you as part of the Jewish people for 3000 years. Now, please leave and let us build a true Jewish/Torah state in the Land of Israel. Bye."
23. we are all, THE SAME
Atilla Karagözoğlu ,   Istanbul   (03.13.07)
The God is upset at Humanity because His disappointment at us. I am upset that many people I have met who realy have not got the message of SHARING. everyone has love but in his/her format. everyone prays as prophets but in his/her format. we all have different colors. we all have potantial to be a rose. lets make world A BIG ROSE GARDEN. we all go to toilets. we are all the same. lets remember this. Love and Share :)
24. Nothing new here then.
(03.14.07)
25. Dont believe figures quoted....
Nora ,   Israel   (03.14.07)
If these "sons" marry non-jews their children by jewish law halacha will NOT BE JEWISH. There's no such thing as half-Jewish - it goes according to the religion of the mother. Being an Israeli citizen doesnt mean anything. I dont believe that these people who were polled are overjoyed that their grandchildren wont be Jewish. Sounds ridiculous.
26. Amazing
Paul ,   London England   (03.14.07)
"As for the Orthodox population, 57 percent would do whatever they could to prevent the couple from marrying, as would 71 percent of the Haredi public. " Just as well. then, that having ignorant bigots as parents in law is no impediment to marriage.
27. So G-d loves me the way Abraham loved Him?
John ,   USA   (03.14.07)
The greatest lover of all time. And look who he married? Of course this was before he "converted".
28. don't believe it
yoni ,   jerusalem   (03.14.07)
don't be fooled by ynets printing of ambiguous surveys. they are all wrong. the questions are misleading and in general it is done a far too narrow of a population to represent the nation. jews will be jews and although interamrriage is a MAJOR problem you should not think that the jews are simply giving into it in exchange for israeli citizenship. stay strong and marry jewish. we are at the tail end now its a shame to give it up after this long.
29. Intermarriage is a non-issue
SR ,   NYC   (03.14.07)
I married a non-Jew, so what? My previous two marriages to Jewesses ended in divorce. I regard myself at least as Jewish as before. Moreover, Israel has gained a new shiksa-friend in the person of my wife - I made sure she's properly and thoroughly educated about Jews and Israel. My mixed kids will be smart and beautiful. It's good to dilute our blood somewhat. The opposite would be like the Haredim and Hasidim. Look what intermarriage and in-breeding has done to them: higher incidence of genetic malfunction; unhealthy complexion as a rule; ugly women; sickly-looking kids; inadequate hygiene; fanaticism; wearing a religious uniform. And this is our moral and spiritual vanguard?
30. Ronny #10
SR ,   NYC   (03.14.07)
We don't need to do anything about them. Are Jewish children formally converted? No!. Same here. Let them live among us and if, on balance, some have more positive experience than negative, they'll accept accept our ways on their own. If not, they'll reject them and leave. It is more important to focus on becoming better menschen for those who are already Jews than to worry about intermarriage.
