31. NOT an enrichment!!!
John ,   Amsterdam, Holland   (03.14.07)
Again; I don't believe in the results in this survey, but I'll post my opinion. Intermarriage is SO underestimated by many posters! If a Jew marries a non-Jew, the Jew is doing something prohibited by Thora. If that's not a sufficient enough for anyone, NOT to marry a non-Jew, then think of the enourmouuuusss numbers of Jews we "are losing" due to intermarriage. Jewish guys married to shiksa's won't have any Jewish kids. And a lot (not all) of the JEWISH kids whom are born into a intermarried household are likely to intermarry aswell and might produce non-Jewish kids. I'm a non-Jew because of the intermarriage of my Jewish family (Jewish grandfather's family etc.). Beezrat HaShem I will convert to Judaism, but sadly enough too many Jews don't recieve Jewish education and Thora-knowledge, this is another HUGE downside of intermarriage. http://www.simpletoremember.com/vitals/WillYourGrandchildrenBeJews.htm
32. SR, NYC Orthodox Judaism can't really cope with seculars
John ,   USA   (03.14.07)
At least adequately. Seculars are the majority, and some would argue for G-d based reasons good reasons; because extreme halactic / religious Judaism delegitimizes or takes apart cultural Judaism.
33. SR, I forgot to mention
John Matthews ,   USA   (03.14.07)
as you probably klnow. That a Jew can do alot of things like convert to Muslim, Christianity etc., but according to halacha he is STILL A JEW. He is just a sinning Jew. There is really know way he can become a Gentile...he could be an idolatric Jew etc....but no one can revoke that. He is obligated to follow commandments, and there is a point of argumentation as to what this entails between halactic and not so halactic, or non halactic Jews.
34. Also I am amazed at how some have forgotten
John ,   USA   (03.14.07)
that most of Israels FOUNDING GROUP WERE SECULARIST JEWS (in that some of Judaism is man-made, and CULTURE).
35. intermarriage
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.14.07)
There is a great difference between Israel and Galut regarding this problem . Here if you want it or not , you stay in a Jewish environnement . You are speaking Hebrew , rest on Shabbat , have the Jewish Holidays and so on . So there is less chance to loose people . In galut you are in a non Jewish environnement . Children go to non Jewish schools , you loose everything . Of course it would be much better for the Jewish Israeli people , that conversion was made more available , not only an orthodox one . Reform and liberal Judaism will attract more Israeli Jews than the orthodox . And maybe out of those reform and liberal Jews , some will regain an orthodox feeling . Who knows ?
36. Not all Jews think the same.
John ,   USA   (03.15.07)
I just don't know if the American Jewry is "doomed" as some say? Galut is not really a state of harsh oppresion as it once was? I would be curious to know what the intermarriage rate is amongst Christians and Jews? And how man of these Christians have ancestory? I do know that "it seems" there is a indication amongst Jews or Jewish ancestory and Native American populations (for some odd reason in my own personal experience)?
37. SR; You sound like a Nazi. Jewish women are beautiful.
Gina   (03.15.07)
The majority of whom are probably better-loking than your shiksa wife. Your poor children will be gentiles with a self-hating Jewish father. Thank God your the last link to Jewish lineage. Jews don't need your family as part of our community.
38. SR
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.16.07)
When you say "shiksa" in Yiddish , it is pejorative . Why don't use the nicer "non Jewish" instead ? and certainly when talking about your own spouse . Regarding your children . For Jews they'll be non Jewish . For non Jews they will be Jewish . They'll have great difficulties with this . You divorced your 2 first Jewish wives . Are you sure this time it will not happen ? Maybe there is something wrong with you ? I always said that , exept in extreme cases , both sides can be blamed in a divorce . So not only your Jewish ex spouses are in fault in my eyes . And in this i don't want to defend them because they are Jewish , it's not related .
39. Yes Gina they are, Charles Hitler didn't care
John ,   USA   (03.16.07)
The Halachic legal orthodox SYSTEM (I believe an INTERPRETATIONAL system of one group of Jews) is really not set up to exist with cultural Judaism. Hitler didn't really care if you were a halactic Jew, my friend still has the tatoos on his arm, and he lost 12 members of his family, and his mother was a gentile. Extreme forms of fundamentalism *(no matter what religion) "pick away" out the ability for man to think freely. They often say things like; "they just don't know truth." Why don't religous Jews go about "killing off " the secular Jews and Gentiles by LAW, since this is allowed (Avodah Zarah 26b)? In fact its halactic obligation? You see? Or don't you see? Some religious Jews determined that they will be less "fundamentalist" at this time, so they put certain laws on hold, or re-interpret them to suit their beliefs or survival.
40. Really think about this?
John ,   USA   (03.16.07)
Do you really want Israel to be a Jewish Saudi Arabia?
41. Another example.....
John ,   USA   (03.16.07)
I know this is a bit off topic, but this moring I was reading in mishnah 45, that a Jew who wants to save the life of a Gentile in which he transgressed the Sabbath, and he committed this offense in front of witnesses and was awarned about this / is put to death by the Beit Din? Secular society would not even consider this as an option, because the blood of all men is holy. Now I am aware that certain teachings get around this in various ways. But I was just making the point how "far a person can drift FROM TORAH", while they still think they are obedient.
42. John # 39
charles ,   petach tikva   (03.16.07)
What you say is unrelated [ hitler....] and secondly , i know this very well . We are talking about mixed weddings , and i added something about their children , not something about racism .
43. Chazals view
John ,   USA   (03.16.07)
At any rate......I believe Chazal redefined what being part of the "Jewish tribe" was about. He did this by changing the requirement to be Jewish, from the father to the mother. Then they created NEW LAWS for those who wanted to join. The Holy Writ is clear on this. Conversion is a COVENANT WITH G-D and not a SYSTEM for joining the Jewish nation.
44. Charles...I was not infering you were racists
John ,   USA   (03.16.07)
Someone mentioned Nazis. My only point is that no one keeps Halacha perfectly, unless they live with themselves, on an island with their own god. I am sorry.
45. The same thing happened in the US
John ,   USA   (03.16.07)
When those escaping persecution came to this country....they eventually tried to make it a ANGLICAN CHURCH STATE.
