1. A UN report would NEVER be complete
Reality Check ,   baGolan   (03.13.07)
Without at least some attempt to condemn us for something
2. and while the inspectors are in Jerusalem,
NY ,   USA   (03.13.07)
they should have a look at what damage the Wakf has done to archeological sites under the Al Aqsa mosque, including the unlawful destruction of the historic Soloman Stables. Let's see how eager Mr. Sheik Salah will be to see "impartial" inspectors view the whole compound.
3. INTERNATIONAL MONITORS ARE IDIOTS
stude ham   (03.13.07)
See them at work on the northern border with hezbolland... see them at work anywhere else in this world. Do not give them a foothold anywhere near Israel They're disastrous. The UN is a crockful of bovine offing.
4. Tell them too many cooks spoil the soup...
ben ,   singapore   (03.13.07)
....therefore cannot involve others i.e. " the UN's World Heritage Committee and Muslim bodies, such as the Waqf " :))))
5. Yes, but what about...
Matthias Roth ,   Switzerland   (03.13.07)
...the ongoing building activity of the Waqf that intends to destroy all Jewish traces on the Temple Mount? Does anyone inquire about that?
6. goody gum drops
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (03.13.07)
7. No to international monitors
Brod ,   USA   (03.13.07)
Israel is a sovereign nation. There is NO NEED for international monitors. The UN should stop being stupid and being a tool of the dark forces.
8. Question
J K ,   NYC, USA   (03.13.07)
Doesnt this finding somehow contravene part of the reasoning used by the UN Human Rights Committee to open a permanent investigation into Israel? I mean, if the works are good enough for UNESCO which is sort of an expert in these things, why shouldnt they be good enough for another part of the UN. The whole thing is convoluted and ridiculous.
9. and the waqf can be trusted ?????
johanna ,   tsfat   (03.13.07)
how come the UN didn't /doesn't worry about what the waqf has been up to on the temple mount??? how come they didn't do anything before... its only when WE do things that anybody cares... and we excavateproperly.. we don't just treat the site as so much trash...like the waqf did when they dug out for their mosque on the temple mount.
10. BottomLine:: Even Prophet can't change their mindsets !!
KMR ,   Middle East   (03.13.07)
11. Destruction of Jewish Artifacts
James Michael Price ,   Haymarket, VA, USA   (03.13.07)
Did any body of the UN concern itself with the destruction of Jewish artifacts by Arab construction workers on the Temple Mount? If the Olmert government had a dime's worth of self respect, it would have demanded equal consideration from the UN. Pathetically and incompetently, it did not.
12. Good news for Israel and bad news
Y ,   N   (03.13.07)
for those who blame Israel for all ills in the world.
13. Exposing Lies vs Ceding Sovereignty to UN
Paqid 16 Netzarim ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (03.13.07)
It's one thing to expose the countless audacious lies of our enemies about what we're doing by Har ha-Bayit but it's something quite different to acquiesce to foreign "monitoring" of our work on our own sovereign soil. This overture should be firmly rebuffed and denied. Paqid Yirmeyahu Israeli Orthodox Jew Advancing Logic as Halakhic Authority Welcoming Jews & non-Jews www.netzarim.co.il
14. Excavation
Juan ,   Spain   (03.13.07)
Has anyone told the UN that Iran are trying to build a nuclear bomb with which they would like to destroy Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Where are their priorities?
15. #10 is right. Reuven Brauner for Prime Minister!
Seth M ,   Haifa   (03.13.07)
16. Now the UN can investigate the Waqf
bob ,   potomac md usa   (03.13.07)
The UN can investigate teh Waqf for its decades of having tried to cover up and deface and remove all Jewish connections with the Temple Mount. Of course THAT will never happen--partly because the Israeli leadership lacks the cojones to stand up against such outrages.
17. #2 has a good point
Myackie ,   Austin, TX   (03.13.07)
and since when does the UN care about anything but money and oil?
18. UN findings
jan   (03.13.07)
First I'm shocked that the UN actually found something right with Israel. Second, let's see if that loud mouth hate preaching, riot inciting Saalah will come and apologize. NOT. And does anyone honestly believe that if the muslims did some digging at the mosque that they would inform the Israeli' of their intentions? If truth be known, the muslims were probably scared that tunnels and weapons caches were going to found inside of their temple.
19. When will monitors supervise Waqf construction?
Zvi ,   USA   (03.13.07)
That is the REAL threat to ALL of the holy places.
20. More UN double speak, double standard
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (03.13.07)
So Israel wasn't doing what it was accused of doing, it was following standard and appropriate procedures in this work. And it was doing so before the UN butt-in-skies showed up. Nonetheless, Israel should cease all work until "inspectors" arrive to monitor the ongoing work? The UN should be told to butt out and get lost. That fact that UNESCO could care less what the Muslim authorities were doing to Jewish sites and artifacts on the Temple Mount, the fact that no other site, and no other nation, has to tolerate the presence of UN inspectors who will tell them what they can or can't do on such a site shows the continuing double standard applied to Israel.
21. So many to blame for what the UN has become
Phil ,   US   (03.13.07)
First, the media has to share in some of the blame for the baseless charges that the UN routinely makes against Israel. It is inconceivable that fair-minded and reasonably intelligent reporters and commentators would report unsubstantiated propaganda accusations against Israel over and over without having some skepticism that the charges were phony. Remember the so-called Jenin massacre and now the outrageous lies about the construction. I remember the accusations hurled against Bibi when he approved another exit for the tunnel wall that resulted in so many needless deaths. When are the media gurus going to wait until the charges are substantiated or at least write articles that clearly point out the accusations are not proved. Of c ourse, if the reason for such lame reporting has to do with bias against Israel, the truth will not be told---only lies that bolster the reporter's prefudices will be reported. In the US, politics has become a corrupt and hypocritical profession with the vast majority of politicians only interested in self or party interests. For example, the Democrats prevented the permanent appointment of John Bolton as UN ambassador. Although they couldn't find fault with any of his proclamations, they knew that it would be an embarrassment for the Bush adminiswtration and cared more about "gotcha" politics rather than fairly deciding if Bolton was telling the truth about the UN. The Republicans are no better in most cases although they seem to have a more realistic appreciation of how corrupt and squalid the UN has become. The truth is that the UN has become what the majority of c ountries in the world are---a conglomeration of hyopocritical liars and murderers who are interested in advancing their interests rather than caring about fairness.
22. Dismantle the UN... and

Dismantle Michael Steiner while you are at it.
23. @1, indeed. @2, perhaps we should e-mail UNESCO ;)

24. UN-Arab destruction of Israeli sovereignty.
Yacov ,   Ashkelon   (03.13.07)
Just another anti-Israel UN-Arab attempt to destroy Israel's sovereignty.
25. You did nothing wrong, but capitulate to Arab leaders anyway
typical UN request ,   so lame   (03.13.07)
26. UN conclusion of Israeli work
Channing ,   USA   (03.13.07)
The UN body should be expelled from the United States and relocated in Paris, France. What a disgrace to our country
27. #11 - Destruction of Jewish Artifacts
Kathleen ,   Cool, CA, USA   (03.13.07)
You are RIGHT ON! I was in Jerusalem in 2004 and saw what the Muslims were doing. They are destroying any Jewish artifacts found that proves that the Jews were in Jerusalem before Mohammed. My husband is there now, and the sentiment is the same. History proves that the Jews were in Jerusalem centuries before Mohammed ever set foot there. The UN has been anti-Israel for decades. It's time they supported this country. I'm not going to hold my breath, though!
28. The UN...
The White Shadow   (03.13.07)
...has no right, whatsoever, to tell the children of Yisrael what to excavate and what not to. Period. End of subject. If the Muslims are that concerned about their mosque which stands like a badge of shame on the place of Solomon's temple, they should transplant it to a Muslim country. Failing that, I'm certain that Yisrael has many bulldozers to do the job itself.
29. no int'l monitors= act of war against neighbors; remember 67
(03.13.07)
you put the rule= you first to follow
30. Give me a Break
Paul ,   Los Angeles   (03.13.07)
When the UN tries to impose itself in Israel it is always at Israel sovereign expense. It would be great if the UN was non-political and competent, but it is not. It remains another tool of the leftist-Arabic alliance. Remember this is a organization that sat comfortably for years with a Zionism =Racism agenda. We didn't need the clowns then, and we don't need them now.
