Prior to 1948, the British controlled this area between 1917-1948. They took this area from the Turks who controlled it between 1517-1917. Prior to the Turks, you will find a long chain of previous owners to include Mamluks, the Ayyubi dynasty, Christian Crusaders, Seljuk Turks etc. All along this area was inhabited by Jews, no Palestinians.
