1. You just cant use it if your not Israeli.
AR ,   USA   (03.16.07)
Here we will have a lot of people complaining about this article none of whome cair to mention the fact that palestinians cant even drive around their own territory without being controlled by israel yet Israel is allowed to build their trains, roads, colonies on palestinian lands. With policies like these it isnt difficult to see Israel dosnt want peace just to "annex" more palestinian land.
2. yes you are right.and one day soon we will rull the world.go

4. All Israelis Can Move Freely, Including The Arab Ones
Eric ,   Boulder, CO, USA   (03.16.07)
All Arabs living in Jerusalem in 1967 were, and are still, offered Israeli citizenship. If they took it, they can travel freely in Israel. If they declined, that was their choice. They are foreigners.
5. No Problem
Meir ,   Arad   (03.16.07)
A Canadian company like Bombardier, based in Montreal, will be happy to take over the project. http://www.bombardier.com/ Remember cheeseheads, you need us more than we need you.

8. #7- If they're "foreigners", where are they from?
Larissa ,   Australia   (03.16.07)
9. #7 come on now Suzanne
papa jay   (03.16.07)
come on now, Suzanne the terror your talking about was born only recently. we're talking up to 94 or 95 when the PA come in. before that there were no checkpoints any where, no bombings, no Qassams. Palestinians from Nablus used to travel freely to tel aviv and back, also they were permitted the use of Tel aviv airport. what was constant and never changed before the terror started, was the military occupation. there was a military ruler of each Palestinian town. these military rulers had absolute power down to the simplest of things like denying installation of phone lines to the resident. If one was caught with a pal flag they were arrested and taken to jail. the pals where under military rule which means under the threat of the gun at all times. Settlements where another issue that was and continued to grow after 1967, terror was no factor in israel's policy of settlements in the west bank and Gaza. Israel wanted to solidify its hold on as much land as possible. The more settlement where built the more the Palestinians had to conform to certain pal roads, land confiscations and a constant reminder of one thing, pales are under military occupation. then terror came inside green line with second intifada with all it's blood shed. point is there was a time when there was no terror, and israeli roads where wide open to Palestinians, but israel was not the lovely neighbor you speak of, it was still ruling the pals with it's military and rubbing their noses into it too.

Alstom is a good company but there are American companies that would be happy to do the job!
11. Stop progress because they're dysfunctional? NO!
Josh   (03.16.07)
12. Jerusalem united
izwick ,   NYC   (03.16.07)
the government of Israel should make it clear to the EU and UN that there is no occupied Jerussalem, there is no east Jerusalem. there is only one united Jerusalem and it belongs to the Jewsih people forever, nothing else to discuss
13. What a surprise
Yonatan Neff ,   USA   (03.16.07)
What a surprise the french want to support palestinians and ignore facts. The facts are that the land is not Palestinian it is merely disputed land and is free to be developed by whoever wants to invest in its development. Anyone is free to live there and if Israelis want to live there and have the means to defend it there is nothing morally questionable about it. This land was conquered by Israel in a defensive war. All countries that win wars have the right to dictate terms. Israel has exercised its right only slightly and merely made the quite reasonable demand that some of its citizens be allowed to live in the conquered territory. If they later decide to anex that territory (including east Jerusalem) that is their right. Winners of wars dictate terms. Israel has won many defensive wars and may now dictate its terms. Judea and Samaria are conquered territories. One may decide to call them desputed but either way Israelis and Palestinians can build wherever they like.
14. jerusalem trains
m.r. ,   CANADA   (03.16.07)
I hope the French courts refuse to allow French company to build. The Bombardier will take over and build a better system.
15. #1 - Get Lost !
Scott ,   Haifa   (03.16.07)
16. What a shame
Franck ,   Montreal, Canada   (03.16.07)
Israel is buying equipments to a country which is an ennemy of Israel. Rather than buying trains from the Frogist Entity, Israel should buy Canadian trains made by Bombardier.
17. ARABS NEW WAR..USING TERM ''''OCCUPIED JERUSALEM''''
ARABS ARE IN TRUTH ,   OCCUPYNG AND MUST GO   (03.16.07)
18. I HOPE THE LEFT MEDIA DOES NOT USE THAT WORD ANYMORE

19. Let's show some resolve
David   (03.16.07)
It is high time for the Israeli government and the Jewish people to tell UNESCO and the rest of the world that we can build in our ancient capital whatever we want, we can conduct archaeological excavations the way we like and we can live wherever we please. They can shove it or as their great friend Arafat used to say if they don’t like it they can drink the Dead sea water. Why should we continuously keep apologizing for the very fact that they haven’t been able to kill us all off?
20. #8

from jordan (85% palestinian) and egypt.
21. AR, USA
Bryan ,   California   (03.16.07)
AR - here you go again. If it happens in Israel, it must be bad, awful and oppressive. Lower income earners value public transport. Many Palestians who work now or want to work in Israel in the future fit this category, amongst many others. Maybe you would prefer them to use slower, more polluting buses. there again, if it is Israeli, it must be conspiratorial! Lift your head out of the conspiracy cloud and try to find see the world from another vantage point some times.
22. # 1 AR is scraping back
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (03.16.07)

23. 12. Jerusalem united
papa jay   (03.16.07)
sorry to have to burst your happy bubble. but: your government makes it clear every day that there is no east Jerusalem, no occupied Jerusalem dont worry about that. how do you get the rest of the world to listen? not only listen but believe you, support you. which i dont see happening. you have a big problem. the Palestinian problem where most of you would like to have created your country on land that was empty but it just wasn’t so. now you need to convince the world how you will deal with 5 million of these people. do it right, and you will have world support. do it wrong, and your capital will be the only capital in the world free of any embassies.
24. French surrender already ?
Benjamin ,   TA Israel   (03.16.07)
Will they do it as usual?
25. Im not talking about Arab Israelis im talking about Palisti
AR ,   USA   (03.16.07)
They arent Israeli citizins and i base my opinion of this subject on israels history of carving up and expanding into palestinian land and this article. Just because its in Israel dosnt mean its bad but when it is going into palestinian territory then that is a different story. What i cant talk about it because its in Israel. Come on dont be an idiot.
26. peacekeeper
yeled ,   israel   (03.16.07)

27. Exactly!
Reuven Brauner ,   Reuven Brauner   (03.16.07)
"the move will also create Israeli strongholds in Arab parts of Jerusalem" Well, almost. There are no "Arab" parts of Jerusalem. It one united city under Jewish leadership and control. For almost three thousand years, Jerusalem is Jewish.
28. stop the nonsense
enough already ,   jersualem   (03.16.07)
i'm going nuts from this already. doesn't the world have anything to worry about anymore. 100,000 of thousands are dying in darfur, muslim extremists murder hundreds of their brothers every day in iraq, millions of people in africa don't have fresh water to drink AND YOU HATEFUL PEOPLE ARE YELLING THAT ISRAEL WANTS TO PUT A TRAIN IN JERUSALEM?!?! GET A LIFE!!!! GET YOUR PRIORITIES IN ORDER. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!! HEY WORLD, ISRAEL IS HERE TO STAY, ITS TIME TO MOVE ON TO MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES ...
29. Foreigners
Jane ,   Czech Republic   (03.16.07)
Aha, so, Palestinians are "foreigners" on OWN LAND, mmmhhmmmm. And where from are "Israeli Jews"???? 95% "Israeli Jews" came to Near East from ALL Europe!!!!!! Only 5% of "Israeli Jews" are born in Mandate Palestine or neighbouring countries!!!!!! Almost all Jews in Israel are europian immigrants. And more - from so called "Jewish Israelis" are 50% Russian NON-Jews!!!!!! Almost NO Jews are from biggest Jewish country - United States. How is it possible? Why are they wan´t come to "Promised Land"???? For what do you need Chinese, Indians, Malaysians, Eithiopians and the others??? So, what about are you talking here????? So, who is "foreigner"????
30. Cool down - nothing really has happened yet
Tobias ,   Germany   (03.16.07)
"A French-Palestinian organization is taking two French companies ... to court,..." The article is reporting that a Palestinian group is bringing two companies to court who intend to do business with Israel. Nothing new. It's not new nor surprising that there are Pal. organisations who don't like other people investing in Israel or cooperating with Israel. But most talkbackers here already write as if the light-rail project had already been canceled. Please wait first what will be the outcome of this trial. There isn't yet any hint that the French court (or whereever it is) will follow the Palestinian argumentation. "The train will isolate East J'Lem from the Westbank" ?? I think this is stupid. Since when does a train isolate? It will connect E. JL. with West JL., but this doesn't mean it isolates it from somewhere else. I could understand someone saying that the fence+wall somehow isolated E. JLem from the Westbank, but a train???
