It is time for the Israeli government to accept and fully recognize the new Unity Palestinian Government. The demand that Hamas must first recognize the Israeli government unconditionally is irrational. That is the only card Hamas has in any negotiations with Israel over any future settlement in Palestine. Hamas cannot tear off this card, and sit down in vain negotiations [ as all those since the Oslo accord] for years until all West Bank is build and owned by Israeli settlers. Israelis must remeber the opinion of their late hero Mosse Dayan who said: "Unless we make peace with the Arabs, we will need half of our population to grease the tanks some day." Maybe not so. But the use of military force -as we see on Iraq- only brings death and insecurity. And the Holy Land has had enought of it since the time of the Roman Empire's occupation How about taking the fingers off the guns' trigger, toss the egos aside, share the land equitably with handshakes -not missiles, and give the young generation and the generations to come the best gift on the universe. Nikos, you speak well, it sounds all good...but it isn't. That type of wishful thinking doesn't quite work when one group is looking for peace and the other is looking to wipe the other off the map. Israel not recognizing Hamas, a goverment founded on the principle of total destruction of Israel and the Jewish people, is NOT the same as Hamas not recognizing Israel, a country that desires to live in peace with the palestinians and to give them their own state with the '67 borders. It would be great to share the land and forget the guns but this is the middle east so let's keep it real.

Sadly, you're right. Those of us far away can see it clearly. But Israelis are still too desperate for approval to mend their ways. It seems as if every other item on this website is about a retreat, a plead for something, or a statement of denial.
