I couldn't agree more with your comments. Iran, along with other radical Islamic elements, sees the pusillanimity of the West, the reluctance of many European nations to even defend themselves on their own soil (hello France), let alone externally. Hollow rhetoric, ultimatums, resolutions, etc., are irrelevant to these forces. I wouldn't give much credibility to parties, countries, and or individuals either that habitually show a penchant for preemptive surrender. God bless the 14 British servicemen and 1 servicewoman. Hope the UK proves me wrong and put their actions where their ultimatums are.

This incident is reminiscent of many a movie plot, were a perpetrator being cornered grabs a hostage and demands of the authorities to grant them the ability to escape, the outcome of such show is going to be as the director wants. But this is real life and unless nations recognize that their ability to project any deterrence against any so called aggressors they cannot be held captive by any threats of terror that paralyzes them into submission. Unless England acts accordingly to any attack upon its armed forces, all that will accomplish will be a total loss of confidence within the ranks of the armed forces to rely upon their fellow comrades in arms to come to their rescue in time of need, so why place themselves in harms way just to become pawns in the political gamesmanship. Any self respecting nation should give the offending country a definite period of time to release or comply with the ultimatum or face a overwhelming military response. I find it ludicrous that it has become fashionable to support all single opinions that claim, There is no military solution to this unprovoked act of war, if that is the reality of modern day political ideology then pray just why spend the billions to maintain a standing army if they will not be used to protect their nation against rouge countries.

It has by now become common knowledge the world over that Iran is playing big time, mega-terrorism. While Britain is thinking about giving or not giving an ultimatum, the Revolutionary Cut-throat Gangs have been ardously interogating the British navy servicemen and servicewoman, not wasting a second. The normal , sane, democratic world should not warn Iran, they should immediately and totally surround it, by sea, land and air. If war breaks out between the two you could bet your ass the 7,000 brits in Basra and the surrounding areas would be massacred (by iraqis who are loyal to Iran) No one even knows what is going on right now blair says he is sure that the sailors were in Iraq waters. If he is so sure why dosnt he make this info public? British soldiers occasionaly cross into Iranian waters it isnt really a big deal.
