dd ,   ny   (04.02.07)
Oh, how great, we have established a precedent. Now why MUST olmert negotiate with them? May be to march to the grave sooner?? All of them, Begin, Rabin, Barak, Netanyahu, Sharon with small exc. of Shamir gave away without getting anything good in return. See now you have a 30000 army at your doorpost and unlike 20 years ago homes in Ashkelon, Sderot and occasional north are bombarded. Arafat, Abbas and Hamas again and again say Jihad, Jihad, Jihad. Ok, fine lets negotiate and see what we can give away now? Eh?
5. SHUT UP STUPID ! no negociation with terrorist states
(04.02.07)
6. The problem is not whether to negotiate, it's Olmert
redmike ,   tel aviv and london   (04.02.07)
Olmert must be ousted as soon as possible and 97% of Israelis agree on that. We would no more want Olmert to negotiate away Israel's existence than we would Belin or Peace Now. So what is the point of this article ? If the article were suggesting that our next PM hold discussions with Arabs then it would have some basis for its existence, but Olmert is a lame duck PM and any discussions that he might have would only raise false expectations amongst Arabs and therefore be dangerous.
7. gadi is a delusional idiot
Phil ,   US   (04.02.07)
Egypt and Jordan have peace treaties with Israel because both the late Anwar Sadat and King Hussein wanted peace. As it was obvious that both Arab leaders wee sincere, Israel jumped at the chance to negotiate peace with them and the deals were finalized rather quickly. Although there still are dangers from both countries if their "moderate" regimes were to be replace by a more radical Islamist thug regime, so far there has been no active combat between Israel and Egypt and between Israel and Jordan. Obviously, Gadi does not understand the difference with leaders who recognized Israel's right to exist as a Jewish State and the Hamas and Fatah terrorists. When Hamas and Fatah openly support terror and Abbas says he does not support terror but does nothing to stop it, Israel would have to be crazy to negotiate with them. Remember, Hamas calls for Israel's destruction. What is there to negotiate when the starting point is your own death? If Gadi had been around in 1944, I'm sure he would have called for negotiations with Hitler and the nazis. Gadi and the other idiot Israeli leftists need treatment and medication.
8. Idiotic Article
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (04.02.07)
The author is part of the headline-seeking group that went to Geneva without the consent of the government or the people of Israel and promised the Arabs the moon, in order to grab some cheap publicity. 97% of Israelis feel that Olmert is unfit for office, and yet the scribbler of this article wants HIM to negotiate Israel's future? Hamas, Fatah, Hizbollah, Islamic Jihad, etc., ALL have declared in their written charters that their goal is the total destruction of Israel and the genocide of the Jewish people globally. Yet this so-called expert wants Israel to give these gangs of criminals and killers our land, from which they can launch more and more missiles ever deeper into the heart of Israel. Would he say, as the idiots who perpetrated Oslo and the Gaza withdrawal said after so much death and destruction, "Oops, guess I was mistaken"? The only legacy of Sharon that should be buried is the withdrawal from Gaza. .
9. Yep, sometimes its better not to sign up for fake peace
daniel ,   Amsterdam   (04.02.07)
I know it's a notion lost on Israeli's; but if your worst enemies are offering peace...try asking yourself why. Are they maybe using negotiations to retrieve what they could not get through war? And what exactly is it they want? The Golan hights, or a strategic advantage for the next war? My advice...try REAL peace next time. It was a lot of fun getting fooled by Arafat, but once is enough.
10. Israel will NEVER withdraw to the 1948 Armistice Line! EVER
Historical Observer ,   NYC   (04.02.07)
This play on words really is funny since pre-1967 is trying to make everyone think this is not a big deal. pre-1967=1948 territorial lines. The request by arab nations: Pretend the war never happened since we lost it to you and we'll let you live in the tiny unsecured borders that created the first war. If we had lost the war, would arab nations agree to a pre-1967 border for us??? Open you eyes and fight for Israels true borders and a peace plan that makes sense for us: 1. Return to the October 26, 1973 borders. 2. Removal of all terrorists from the palestinian-occupied territories. 3. Recognition of Israel's right to exist and it's permanent borders stretching from the Jordan river to the Mediterrean Sea, Jerusalem as it's Capital, and the acceptance of Jewish communities within their countries. 4. Jerusalem and Temple Mount belong to Israel. The right of return for palestinian refugees back to Palestine (yes, painfully we must allow them to return to Jordan). Israel deserves NOTHING less than this!
11. What is there to negotiate about? Arabs said NO at Taba
Yehuda ,   Rannana   (04.02.07)
Barak offered the bastards everything and they started kiling us. Has the author forgotten?
12. Well said, Gadi! Excellent!!
Michael Steiner   (04.02.07)
Olmert has betrayed all of us who supported him initially. He has proven to be weak: he does not have the courage to do what needs to be done and that is tackle and dismantle once and for all the small but very vocal and violent minority in our midst that put the fear of crap in him and sought to stymie every and all attempts at reaching a solution. Goodness, he doesn't have the courage to kick out a few dozen brats from a couple of trailers on a hill; does one think he would ever have a go at the lunatic NatRel fringe?? Forget it. Maybe we DO need Netanyahu; for all his bellicose rhetoric, he'd realize he needs to talk to the Arabs before long...
13. #10:
Michael Steiner   (04.02.07)
Good to see you doing your part in the realization of the Greater Israel delusion from New York. Do us all a solid and stay there, O.K? Then again, there's no danger of your ever coming here and fighting for "your" land. You just want me and my children to do it for you. I don't think so.
14. all or nothing rule ..
Ali ,   Beirut   (04.03.07)
what is needed here is a good leadership in the white house ...someone who would pick up the phone and talk to olmert and encourage him to accept the ppeace plan by the arabs befor he starts dealing with the fundamentalists themselves .....look what happen in the summer ....they were just part time fighters .. great article ..
15. "Negotiate" with the arabs
Yaakov ,   USA   (04.03.07)
I am glad to see you like the bridge I have for sale. (even though, of course, I have no title to the bridge, but I am not telling you that) Here is the sales contract, please sign by the X. I know the price is over the top and I accept no responsibility for anything. We will negotiate the details once the escrow has closed. Please just sign by the X!!! This is what the arab plan calls for. Abbas was not even present at the Arab League meeting, only Maashal and the hamas PM, who lobbied and got what they wanted in the offer. They expect to be able to flood Israel with 4 million hostile arabs, return of the strategic Golan Heights, and all of East Jerusalem and the West Bank. Perhaps some settlement areas may be bartered for a connecting route between Gaza and Judea. They may throw in some language about Jewish religious sites in their area and other such things which they will disregard later with impunity, as they build a force to destroy Israel. Such a deal! Better grab it quickly before this historic opportunity passes.
16. to support the peace is to accept it
maha ,   jerusalem   (04.03.07)
i think the most people need the peace is the israili and the palastinians .. and these people need their support ,need their accept // but others .the arabs or the west will support by action /may funds may force to attack if any of these two will be out of the agreement .. but now these support is not more than words with or against the israil or the arab .. but the suffering mainly is on israili and palastinians
17. totally detached from reality
noel ,   israel   (04.03.07)
Olmert is irrelevant to the peace situation. It certainly isn't a 'process'. Saying 'yes' at the present time is a euphemism for 'self destruct'. Let the looney left face up to reality and start to demand acceptable norms from the other peace hating side.
18. Peace with Egypt?
RA   (04.04.07)
You are living in a dream world. Egypt is fighting a proxy war against Israel on a daily basis. There is no peace, but on paper. That's like saying Israel has peace with Syria.
19. yeah, but...
tom ,   toronto, canada   (04.04.07)
to say that "peace is more popular than olmert" is easy - but meaningless. the trouble is that this is a false choice, phrased in deceptive language. there is no "peace" on the table, there is only a shopping list of arab demands: IF israel returns all the land that the arabs lost, and IF israel evicts all the settlements, and IF israel takes in 4 million arab palestininans, and IF israel agrees to a second palestinian state, only then can the negotiations begin. and such negotiations! the arabs may even recognize israel, and make promises to change their genocidal national charters, and make promises to arrest terrorists, and make promises to stop incitement. but of course none of this will be enforceable, or irrevocable, even if it ever happens. and we've seen all this before - it's just another rerun of the oslo accords, which led to "intifada", not to peace. real "peace" does not begin with demands.
20. Small head, big mouth.
Dr. Ari Nir ,   USA   (04.05.07)
Our problem is that these people who have access to the media honestly believe that they are only one who know what to do. Their problem is that some of them have very different opinions. Probably, they entertain us but they are not our intellectual leaders. They were wrong so many times, therefore, we do not trust them anymore. And they should know about it. But, no, they are not stupid. They are working for money – pay him more and he will write quite opposite.
21. #12 - Michael Steiner
Gillian ,   Ashkelon   (04.05.07)
So, what you are saying is that the only obstacle to peace are a few brats and the Nat/Rel fringe. They are the ones stop peace happening, is that right? Are you nuts or what. We are surrounded on all sides by people who openly say they want to wipe Israel off the map, and try their utmost to succeed, but according to your twisted logic, they will throw down their guns and bombs and embrace us if we just get rid of a few "brats". You truly are a fool. In my opinion you and people like you are the very vocal and violent minority in our midst, and very dangerous to Israel.
22. Agree with #12
soldier ,   Desert   (04.05.07)
I think michael steiner is typing from his recliner with his double latte. No back bone to fight for what he believes in because believe me they want to destroy israel. They might not have sacrifices on the temple any longer but some people are willing to be that for israel. What are you in the end? I think maybe you think that your getting manipulated by your government? Look why don't you go fight for the terrorists or fight for israel but please stop complaining.Try being a good citizen for once.
23. Wake up and smell the Hummis!
Reuven ,   Tel Aviv   (04.09.07)
I know it's a waste of time to write you but I simply must. "Peace" is something that has only EVER been achieved through VICTORY over the entire course of history. The Arabs know this and act appropriately. Israel has never understood this. Israel can win the wars, but always loses the peace. Reagan was proven right, but you refuse to admit it. "Peace through strength" is the only peace that will achieve any real gains. Peace may be "popular" as an idea, but it can only come when the enemy wants it as bad as we do. When do you see that happening? By what means will that mental state be achieved? There can be no "diplomatic horizon" when the goals of one's enemy is not diplomacy but VICTORY and DEATH. Do you not believe them when they speak? Do you not hear them? Do you think they don't really mean what they say? It's time to stop pretending our enemies want peace and security for both us and themselves. They want all of Israel; they want the dhimmitude of all Israelis; they want us on our knees and part of the "ummah". This is what your article needs to deal with because this is the real obstacle to peace.
