As Churchill said, democracy is a lousy form of government, but it's the best we have to work with. The minorities in Israel have to keep working through the tools of democracy: the Knesset, the press and the public. Yes, I'm a "settler" and I know that you have a lot of work to do to get your equality and stop discrimination. The laws of the land are in many cases offensive and discriminatory, but that means that we all have to work together to strengthen them. Yes, lots of Jews are fearful of true democracy. A simple example is that everybody should be allowed immediate access to a lawyer when arrested. They are not. Arabs and Jews could and should sieze on this commonality to fight for better rights for all of us. And yes, eventually the national anthem will have to be changed, the country needs a constitution that is binding upon everybody, and we'll feel strong enough to not be threatened by fully embracing democracy. In the meantime, take to heart that even the USA was an officially racist country for almost its first 200 years, but the minorities eventually used the system to overcome the discrimination and get America to move ahead (not that it's utopia). They are not undergoing a process of alienation. They have alienated themselves from the beginning. Where are the hordes of Israeli Arabs who are standing up to PUBLICALLY support Israel and its right to exist against their "brother" Muslims who call for our destruction. Where are the protests against "radical" Islamic Jihadists and homicide bombers? Where are the marches in support of the state and its policies against the terrorists? Where are the volunteers to fight Israel's enemies? Sadly, these people, as a whole, are a fifth column. They continually do things to prove it, and do nothing to disprove it. What shining examples of Arab Israeli patriotism on a LARGE scale do you have ANY evidence of?
