1. Don't agree with mixing
Josh   (04.16.07)
It is a shame, however I think that it is bad practice to confuse the histories. The weight of the holacaust should be rememebered separate from the new Islamic war. One was persecution for simply being Jewish and one is a war over land where we are hated as the enemy. There should be separate memorials so that generations to follow don't loose focus of each incident. Being a high risk journalist in someone elses country where people are at war (Jihad) against your people adn are ebing invaded by your allies is not the same as the holacaust where people were at home when their neighbors and community turned on them. Individuals all around the world are killed for being Jewish, yet not added. Why should a jornalist have a place among hollacust memories?

I agree with No. 1 Talkback
3. "war over land"
Ruth ,   Israel   (04.16.07)
Josh, while I am not comfortable with the mixing myself, you got it completely wrong. Daniel Pearl was no Israel and his murderers were not Palestinian. This was no war over land at all but simple prosecution of Jews. Arguably the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is not (only or mainly) a conflict over land. It started in the 1920s and the violence was directed at least as much against log-established Jewish communities (as Hebron) as against new Jewish settelements. And this was way before the State of Israel. You should read the Hamas Charter to get a better understanding of the background...

I agree with # 1 and 2 that he should not have been put on the same memorial as the victims of the Holocaust, but on a seperate one along with other victims of religious persecution, such as victims of the shooting at the Synagoue in LA,, We the Jewish people are always made the scapegoats for other people's irrational ideologies of hatred, we must never forget nor allow the world to forget these horrors lest they be allowed to repeat them!
5. It doesnt hurt
Dan ,   Australia   (04.16.07)
He was not murdered in the Holocaust, but he was murdered by people just as bad as the Nazis. He was murdered for the same reason.
6. Mixing and matching history-wrong idea
oritush   (04.16.07)
So why arent all the other israelis who were just drinking coffe or riding a bus or celebrating Pesah in a hotel and were blown up for no other reason but for being JEWS arent included on that (silly) wall? It is horrendous what happened to Daniel-but journalists are kidnapped and sometimes even murdered-dangerous job. If the UK journalist who is now kidnaped in gaza will be murdered-should he be included in israel's memorial day? There is NOTHING ELSE that should be mixed with rememberance of shoa-NOTHING!
7. shoa = terrorisme?
y baron ,   golanheights israel   (04.16.07)
the final solution was state policy of the german third reich . designed organised and executed, by politicians , burocrats and soldiers of a (then) modern western country. islamic terrorisme is a tool used by fanatic fringe groups to try too influence world or state policies and to spread fear. also I personally think that if Daniel Pearl ז"ל would'nt have been Jewish , but "just " an american journalist , working on a story about Islamic militants in Karachi, he would also have his throat slit by Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. adding Daniels 's to the izcor memorial misses the point of both remembering the holocaust and also of remembering the victims of terror
