Ninety percent of so-called intelligence activity is futile, unproductive and a waste of time and money. Ninety percent of "valuable" intelligence is gleaned from freely-available newspapers and journals. But governments are always populated by a number of arrested adolescents and sociopaths who enjoy the James Bond stuff. It takes a certain character to engage in deception, theft, blackmail, downright thuggery and -- as the author suggests -- murder.
