31. The BBC Is Dumber Than Grits
Sarah ,   USA   (04.19.07)
"The BBC refuses to describe suicide bombers who blow up buses full of schoolchildren as "terrorists" and one of its correspondents told a Hamas rally that he and his colleagues were “waging the campaign shoulder-to-shoulder with the Palestinian people.” Rubbing shoulders with the same people who celebrated in the streets when 9/11 occurred in the US?!
32. Khalid; What you describe is Saudi Arabia not Israel.

33. Saudi Arabia owns the media in Britain.
Daisy ,   USA   (04.19.07)
What the public doesn't know is that the Saudi government has bought shares in the media throughout Europe. They have paid their "agents" to spread anti-Israeli propaganda throughout the world. This Islamofacist conspiracy has been in the making for decades and now we are seeing the results of this Islamo Nazi conspiracy. The Saudi goernment has spent billions to help destroy Israel.
34. To Khalid and nos.8 +16= the same
dd   (04.19.07)
The article does not talk about presumed aggressions against Palestinians, about presumed aggressions against Gaza. Hey, nutties, Gaza was left by Israel in 2005 and now it is 2007 if you must know. The article talks mostly about the disgraceful and very palpable anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic feelings of so many British journalists who leave no stone unturned in their blind way of hating and bashing the Israeli public, the Israeli society and its political and administrative leaders. And all these, with passion, imprecission, generalities and hate mongers' fervour. Thank God that in the middle of such a dangerous madness, there are a few crystal-clear voices like that of Mr Burden. So, guys, try something better and get your propaganda to other sites. Leave Ynet and try the Hezbollah ones or the likes of them.
35. Thank you Chas
AJ ,   Tel Aviv   (04.19.07)
Chas, thank you for your courage to write this and stand by your principles. Your integrity and commitment to the truth are commended. The world media needs many more people like you.
36. You Still Have the USA
J Olson ,   USA   (04.19.07)
Burden whines that the British press are giving Israel a tough time in the press. Hey, Israel still has the entire American media machine producing its propaganda and myths for them. You certainly won't see anything in the American press dealing with Israel's 1947-48 ethnic cleansing of Palestine or the 1967 terrorist attack on the USS Liberty or even the cold-blooded murder of pacifist Rachel Corrie.Guess that isn't enough for some people.
37. British Bullsh&t Corp.

of the once proud English civilization. They were never invaded. They were simply taken over. And they are going down upholding their dearest prejudice: anti-Semitism.
40. The Words Of An Educated Journalist.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (04.20.07)
One British journalist spoke :"So why did they murder their most peaceful Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ?" SO this uneducated rascal, this FOOL calling himself a journalist, is writing articles -- and the British readers in general assume they are reading the words of an educated journalist. Journalists like him should be FIRED by the concerned newspapers. IF they are not fired, and they continue to be employed by those newspapers -- normal people should NOT take the trouble to read those LOW-CLASS British newspapers. Normal people of Britain should BOYCOTT those newspapers. IN places where ignorant FOOLS are respected -- the goddess of fortune leaves those places. BTW Chas, I am happy you are not in favour of the NUJ decision regarding Israel. Keep strong.
41. A lone, brave voice in the desert.
Tahl ,   Israel   (04.20.07)
After reading Burden's article, I was shocked, learning that Israel's situation in the British press is even worse than I thought. It takes a man of great courage and integrity to stand up to this unrelenting, hate-driven, filth-bathing propeganda machine, and expose its true face. Thank you so much for this article. I assume there is no chance in hell this article would be published in the mainstream British media, as you are now considered a pariah by your colleauges. But your conscience is the only voice you should listen to. Thank you again.
42. To J. Olson (36)
Tahl ,   Israel   (04.20.07)
First of all, Burden doesn't "whine" - he tells the facts as they occured, from his experience with his colleagues. And how easily you discount and condone the grave findings in here! Second, your sense of history seems to be wildly distored by your blind hate towards Israel. "Israel's 1947-48 ethnic cleansing of Palestine" - WTF? For your information, before Israel's independence, the Jews agreed to a two-state division plan, where Palestine would be divided between Jews and Arabs. The Arabs rejected this plan, and vowed to destroy Israel at all cost, attacking many Jewish villages and killing many innocent Jewish civilians. They also sieged Jerusalem in order to starve the Jews there to death. The Jews resisted, and fought the Independence war - few Jews lightly armed, against many Arabs, with many arms. And though suffering many casulaties, the Jews won. The Arabs, who vowed to "throw all Jews to the sea" - realizing they lost - now escaped from Palestine. That's war for you: you want to kill me, you fail, now don't go around crying that you lost your home in the process. Not that the Jews were one-tenth as brutal and murderous toward the Arabs, than the other way around. So much for this point. As for the USS liberty - give me one good reason why Israel would KNOWINGLY attack an American ship. Are we stupid? Do we really want to alienate our only real friend in the world? You whine that this doens't get any press today. MAYBE BECAUSE IT HAPPENED 40 YEARS AGO??? A whole different era, different media, different world. By the way, is the Jewish influence on American media also to blame, for the silence of press today about the experiments done on GI's on exposure to nuclear radiation, in the 1950's? A far greater catastrophe and far greater disgrace of human life - by any measure. So is the Jewish media to blame for this too? How about the American media's silence regarding Jonathan Pollard, rotting in jail for over 20 years, receiving awful conditions and constant badgering, for spying to a friendly country? For God's sake, much worse criminals have it much easier! Aldrich Ames, the CIA mole who spied for the USSR, and responsible for the death of many American agents - has it easier than Pollard, who just wanted to protect Israel better. Where is the Jewish-owned American media regarding Pollard? Where is the Jewish-owned American media, when Israel discovered a US submarine spying on Israel last year? Any word you heard about that? What if America found an Israeli submarine spying near Washington? Rachel Corrie and her accidental death got their day in the sun, and she is certainly a lot more famous than Lidia Hatoel, RIP, a pregnant mother of five, who was brutally murdered by Palestinians, along with all her children, while driving near Gaza. Their bodies were found punctured by hundreds of bullets. And also more famous than the small Israeli infant from the village of Adorah, murdered point-blank in her bed by another Palestinian terrorist. By the way, where is your criticism of the Palestinians executing the BBC reporter? Or is only present when Israelis are to blame?... Next time you want to spew your hate, you'd have to do a much better job than this - disecting your crap was too easy ;)
43. Small correction, and a small experiment...
Tahl ,   Israel   (04.20.07)
A small correction to my previous post (responding to J. Olson) - the mother who was slain near Gaza was named Tali Hatuel, not Lidia. Lidia Hatuel is a famous fencer, and I accidentally got mixed up with the name. She also had 4 children, not 5 like I thought. Now for a small experiment: try googling "Rachel Corrie" - and you'd get over 865,000 results. Try now googling "Tali Hatuel" - and you'd get a mere 19,900 results. Proportion?... Balance?... Not that I was ever naive enough to believe in such things.
44. To Khalid #5. You Mean 'Recovered Territories'.
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (04.20.07)
You write :".. the occupied territories, ..". You mean 'recovered territories'. That's a big difference. BTW in Israel everyone should obey the Israeli law. THOSE who are against the Israeli law should be punished by the Israeli law. GENERALLY law-breakers have animosity against the country's law-enforcers, the Police. Why ? Because law-breakers can't perform their activities peacefully - with the Police CHASING them. Law-abiding citizens NEVER consider the Police force as their enemy. Why ? Because they have NOTHING to fear. You follow the law of the country -- you have NOTHING to fear !!
45. Keep up the good work

Dear Chas Newkey Burden, thank you for your existence, honesty and bravery. Keep up the good work of real journalism and media objectivity. Without people like you there is no hope. You have an important role.

Good on you, Mr. Burden for having the courage to go against the grain, so to speak!
51. Ron Ben-Yeshai's Israel trip story
Jean Sherrell ,   Sebastopol, CA, USA   (04.28.07)
Mr. Ben-Yeshai , I read your story with great interest and am hoping you can tell me exactly why it is that the British media have it in for Israel. It's like that where I live too -- the San Francisco Bay Area -- but I've written it off to the locals' inability to get over the political correctness that swept in with the the '60s and still manages to muddle the minds of otherwise reasonable people. I've been a civil rights activist in the '60s registering voters, a journalist, a lobbyist for passage of the Freedom of Information Act, a researcher and historian, progressive politically, and of course a dedicated secular pro-Zionist. People who now call themselves progressive or liberal, however, are nearly always antagonistic to Israel and crazily sympathetic to her enemies. Except for my Israeli friends, my conversations these days end up as arguments, and no one seems willing to bother with the complex history and facts that have led to the difficult situation Israel now faces, not even when offered documentation. I've given up trying to understand the people here I used to consider my peers, but am hoping that you will enlighten me regarding the British state of mind. Or perhaps it's just the BBC and the elitist elements of your country's society, with others tagging along for the cachet of being in tune with the upper classes. I've only been to England once, and was enthralled by all the book stores, impressed by the British Museum's Library, and in general have always been partial to British literature and history. Considering that little England managed to colonize much of the world for centuries, they certainly took good notes and there is a wealth of knowledge about many cultures, times and places. So why is their perspective on Israel and the Middle East so warped? Is it a recent phenomenon? George Eliot, one of my favorite British authors, wrote Daniel Deronda based on conversations with her rabbi friend recently returned from Palestine in the mid-1870s and full of stories of Zionist fervor. I used to wait eagerly for BBC World News because it seemed more thorough than our commercial-driven network news, but now I wince when I hear those modulated plummy BBC tones because I know that sooner or later there is going to be some snide (or worse) commentary on Israelis in particular or even Jews in general. My great-grandfather and his brother fled Romanian pogroms in the 1820s; his brother headed for Palestine and great-grandfather Maurice Cohen went to London -- splitting up so one branch of family might survive. My grandfather was born in London and when his father lay dying, he sold everything he had to buy passage for my soon-to-be-orphaned seven-year-old grandfather, his twin 11-year-old sisters and younger brother to America, Cincinnati Ohio specifically. Grandpa told me that his father said that even not knowing anyone in America they would be safer, in both body and soul, than in England. When I was young I assumed that great-grandpa's decision meant that England was not a very good place to be Jewish. As I grew older and began to appreciate Britain's literature and history, it puzzled me. So. What is going on over there? I've read Bawer's book While Europe Slept but did not think the Brits were quite so insensible to the threat of militant Islam. But developments such as the union's boycott, academic journals closed to Israeli academics and the like really do trouble me. Any answers? And, good luck. Keep writing the truth -- at least as long as you can get it published. Thanks for your efforts to understand. Shalom, Jean Sherrell
