Doesn't the IDF have prisons to put away these hooligans? Can something like this actually go on at an army base in Israel without being stopped? If so, shut down the army and close up Israel because you'll be better off living in the diaspora.

I also did a course at this base as a recruit and we had problems with the Russians then as well. All the immigrant soldiers came to the course with high motivation and clashed with the Russians as well - most of whom werent jewsih and didnt even pretend to be. They hated Jews and Israel and we give them guns and military training. The big question is - what are the commanders and senior officers doing? Im guessing that like all problems facing the IDF at the moment, the officers were probably on holdiay or looking out for themselves and not really bothered. Shame on those who wear the uniform and havent earned it.

While I was in a unit of many immigrants, some non-Jewish Russians abused a Guatemalan Jew to the point that this highly motivated Oleh had to spend the rest of the army in psychiatric hospital and left israel as sonn as he could. Many other non-Jewish Russiand who may not have been antisemites were highly unmotivated and laughed and abused anyone who was.

Once again the army sweeps rotten behavior under the carpet.Instead of protecting the soldier they exposed him to further violance. Why were the sargaents and officers not punished for not stopping this horrible manifestation.

I can understand people's disbelief about this story. I too am quite disturbed by it, though not surprised. What many abroad might not realize is that a large number of the Russian immigrants moving to Israel in the last 10 years or so, were not raised "Jewish" or with any awareness of Jewishness (a grandmother or great-grandmother might have been a Jew), they are Russians first, which can often mean antisemitic as history has unfortunately dictated. Should they be allowed to come to Israel as Jews anyway?

The majority of the Russians that came here are not Jewish and came from areas that Anti Semtism ran rampant. Seems to me that those soldiers should be expatriated back to Russia asap! When I immigrated here from the USA I had to not only show them my Ketuba, but my mom's as well to prove my jewishness, yet these Russians didn't have to..many of them only stay in Israel to get "their rights as "jews", and then when that money is gone they try to move to the west,either America or Canada!
