2. Why wouldn't we be in a huirry?
Jerusalem resident   (04.27.07)
We also have to get to work... and we earn a lot less than your fellow New yorkers. Why wouldn't we be in a hurry? This isn't a "show city" for the tourists, people live here and at a fast pace!
3. I hate it
Yosef ,   Jerusalem   (04.27.07)
if you walk on yaffo at night cars are on the side walk, if you walk on aggripas during the day the is nowhere to cross!?! you have to navigate thru he speeding cars, plus people on vespas have total disregard for their safty or others as they speed along the congested roads of jerusalem. on king george by the light at ben hillel, i have twice seen somebody run the red light and hit somebody.
4. Hurry TO work(#2)! HAH. Israelis...
Ayelet Chen ,   Israel   (04.27.07)
...don't care when they get to where they are going, AS LONG AS THEY GET THERE BEFORE YOU. Right of way is an unknown concept in Israel. From a young age, every child is taught that they are more important that everyone else, that nothing else matters but their own needs. They learn from parent's examples of bad behavior towards others. Now since many of the road planners and most decision-makers do not drive themselves, nor do they walk anywhere, they have no idea what problems 'the little people' face.
5. A Prince in JERUSALEM !
Atilla Karagözoğlu   (04.27.07)

freejay ,   Israel   (04.27.07)
7. To be in a hurry
charles ,   petach tikva   (04.27.07)
If you leave your home some minutes earlier , you won't be in a hurry , won't be stressed , and come more relax at your work . And this has nothing to do with the level of your earnings .
8. TRAFFIC IS HIS PROBLEM? NOT TO SMART
HE IS THE PROBLEM ,   ..............DACON9   (04.27.07)
9. WE NEED LEADERS NOT COMEDIENS
..............DACON9   (04.27.07)
10. HE COULD'VE TURNED THE INTO A LESSON ON MIDOT
.............DACON9   (04.27.07)
11. pedestrianhs
george ,   jerusalem   (04.27.07)
why do vendors use the sidewalks as extensions of their stores, and why are lotto-stands put in the middle of the sidewalks and why are street lamps, parking meters and signs erected on the sidewals?
12. 2 - Driving quickly doesn't mean driving like a psycho
Israeli driver ,   formerly USA   (04.27.07)
As a former American who now lives and drives in Israel, I must say I am APPALLED by the driving here, and even more so by Israeli attempts to use 'a fast life pace' to justify reckless, dangerous driving. In Jerusalem, people 'in a hurry' often shove their way into intersections, costing other people one or two lights' worth of time, whereas, if they would merely respect traffic laws more people, on average, would get where they needed to go more quickly. Additionally, Jerusalemites, often don't feel the need to signal before switching lanes. What does THAT have to do with being in a hurry? If you think about it, Jerusalem streets often have only one or two lanes, so traffic accidents cause CRAZY traffic jams. In other words, the insane driving actually COSTS people time that could be avoided if they merely stopped violating traffic laws. STOP DRIVING LIKE PSYCHOPATHS, PEOPLE - there's no excuse!
13. #4 That's nonesense. I was born and raised here and none of
(04.27.07)
what you say is applicable. YOU may have been raised this way.
14. The Olmertization of Jerusalem
malcolm   (04.27.07)
Olmert enjoyed 10 years of personal wallet fattening while Jerusalem sank to it's lowest level. High paying jobs left the city as well as the tax base. Jerusalem is a shell of it's former days of glory. It used to be a nice place to walk around and enjoy. Instead it's one crude development after another. Just a few of many: Resident Unfriendly: -Most open spaces were SOLD to the highest under the table bidder -Ill conceived traffic "planning" chokes the city center. Tourist Unfriendly: --80% of street signs are missing. The rest are illegible -Every other section of the same street has a different name
15. (Sanctitty for Life)sic and sick
chris ,   florida usa   (04.27.07)
Sorry,Not the jewish people can claim this, after what had happened in the 40"s, only they are the most moroninc, how can you treat the palistine;s the way you were treated? You bring all the hardships on yourselfs and waranted
16. Rabbi Morris is 100% correct
SID LEVINE ,   Jerusalem   (04.27.07)
The new revamped city centre for the light railway and bus lanes has caused chaos in normally quite roads. What were quite residential roads have now been turned in to major roads with little or no care for pedestrians. Indeed, the parking on the footway showns no concern for the elderly or the young - pedestrains have to walk on the road to avoid carelessly parked cars and trucks. Until Mayor Luplianski gets off his high horse and fires the planners responsible and enforces strick parking regulations with high penalties we can expect the situation not to improve. This appears to be the arrogance of minor burocrate who rule our every day life without any concern for what they are doing.
17. Enforcing traffic laws
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (04.27.07)
As a New Yorker now here for a number of years we could do well to learn of the rest of the world because no we are not smarter. For starters if traffic laws were just enforced and fines raised, thereby causing people to think twice before failing to signal or push out into the crosswalk while waiting for the light change, the sidewalks and streets would be safer. In addition, tow cars parked on the sidewalks and in intersections and then by charging exorbitant fines for the release of the car, might help stop this stupid practice. And yes if people can not afford it then they should not drive. Though it sounds harsh they should not have been parked there in the first place, there are no excuses, there are many parking lots and there should be more. As well, adopting the policies of major cities world wide regarding the hours of commercial deliveries into and around the commercial centers has helped speed up the general flow of parking in many city's. Lastly, only allowing busses and cabs thereby limiting civilian vehicles during business and high traffic hours would help and creating a pedestrian only area between Hillel and yaffo would create a safe and serene atmosphere for all. Of note complete lack of respect for the police whose job it is to enforce traffic is probably the reason that such laws are not enforced. After all why does the officer want to deal with some idiot who is going to talk back and argue with him, unheard of the world over, just try it in New York you will go to jail. Of course the problem here on the talkback wall is that its good and well to present great ideas but the people in charge think they are smarter and most Israelis will still believe they come first no matter what.
18. Nice - but your talking to the wall
Josh   (04.27.07)
Israelis don't care when another puts the screws to them. If you complain you are a bachyan, and if you get aggressive you are al targeze This attitude means there is no penalty for jeopordizing anothers safety. yheye b'seder Luckily they manage not to kill one another. In the states these stunts would cost lives, here everyone expects the craziness and manages to get out of the way. Proof of Hashems blessing on the nation of Isreal. I was a fire-medic in the US, so I have been there to pick up the pieces - Israel is protected from above - I can't see it any other way.
19. sickChris, do you refer to Haj Amin Al-Housseini?
Abe Bird   (04.27.07)
He joined the Nazies and helped them huntig the Jews of Yugoslavia and Hungary. His followers today commited to go on with their mission and to annihilate all the Jews in the ME. The Islamo-Nazis didn't have changed.
20. josh
charles ,   petach tikva   (04.27.07)
don't talk about protection from above to the victims of the Sbarro , bus 18 and other .
21. Have You Ever Been a Pedestrian in New York?
Yaakov Noach ,   New York, USA   (04.28.07)
On a recent stay in Yerushalayim, the one thing I could not adjust to was the way cars are expected to yield to pedestrians. In New York you do not dare set foot in the street without waiting to see if the car is going to stop- even if you have the light. It is in New York, not in Yerushalayim, where they put up signs on every block of some streets saying "A pedestrian was killed here."
22. #21
Joe ,   Israel   (04.28.07)
They don't put up signs for the simple reason that no one cares. Ever notice? In areas that do not have traffic lights, but they are really needed. The residents and other citizens can petition, request demonstrate, etc. all to no avail. The only deciding factor is "Blood on the streets." Only after several people are killed or seriously injured will a traffic light be erected.
23. #13
i ,   jerusalem   (04.28.07)
do you know how to wait in line? to board a bus without edging in from the side, it so, you are a rarity.
24. Israel Road's is the main place of prayer
David Wilfond ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.29.07)
Rabbi Morris refers to Shlonsky's image of the Black Straps of Tefilin being like the road's of the new Jewish State. 80's later in the modern land of Israel, I would dare to suggest that more heart felt prayers "pass the lips" on the roads than in the Bet Keneset. It is in one's car that drivers pour out their hearts and utter prayers to the Almighty to save them from danger. "Tefilin" means prayer. Maybe Shlonsky had it right after all. For the "New Jew" in Israel it is has indeed become the roads that are the main site for prayers of salvation.
25. thats just what i love about Israel..
Simon ,   Malha   (05.01.07)
I love the attitude, the people, the ideas of being honest (not politically correct), not being so tight and western, I love JERUSALEM and I LOVE ISRAEL for being LIKE THE WEST BUT NOT THE WEST... if I wanted to live in a country that is so... western ... I would stay in my native England.. where everyone is so pretentious, so fake (they are nice on the outside.. but at least in ISRAEL we they are nice on the inside!)... i love israel as it has its own identity.. look at the UK its simply a melting pot of people waiting to explode... and will soon! so.. if you want to live in a fake world.. move back to the west.. if you want some spice... move home to ISRAEL.. the sooner, i can get a bit of money behind me.. i am moving to ISRAEL! I am moving HOME!
