5. Grace is Deceitful only without Torah
Mordy ,   Montreal, Canada   (05.10.07)
The Hebrew expression for 'grace is deceitful is "sheker hachen." The word "hachen" (grace) is made up of three letters, heh, chet and nun. A teacher of mine once told me they stand for the initials of the three mitzvot (commandments) that are delegated to woman (even though a man can fulfill two of them). They are 1. 'H' adlakat Nerot (lighting Shabbat candles) 2. 'CH' allah (Taking off challah when baking bread) and 3. 'N' iddah (laws of family purity). If a woman fulfills these mitzvot, then grace and beauty are an adornment for her!
6. More krap
Karen ,   Israel   (05.10.07)
from this nonexistent person? Strange, no one knows her/him, in any chareidi circle, or lives near her/him( except the shaved head lady who drives) Sounds like something from science fiction, which it is. That creepy photo every time, is even more spooky. Maybe she's wandering through the forests calling for her musachnik from Ashdod?
7. GRACE
TZVIAH ,   israel   (05.10.07)
tali, you hit the nail on the head when you said 'i do not know why"/ YOU REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. Why don"t you quit while you are ahead. You are probably enjoying shooting your mouth off , but just remember there is someone up there who is writing everything down. You are a very talented writer. Why don,t you use your talent in a more productive way and not destructive.
8. Tali ! leave that News site called as Ynet !

10. IT HAS NEVER BEEN LIKE THAT IN NON ASHKENAZI OBSERVANT WORLD
SERGIO ,   ISRAEL   (05.10.07)
IT'S ENOUGH TO READ THE PERTINENT LITERATURE BY BIG NON ASHKENAZI RABBIS GLORIFYING THE MODEST BEAUTY OF OUR WOMEN AND PRAISING WOMEN WHO DO EVERYTHING TO LOOK BEAUTIFUL IN THE EYES OF THEIR HUSBANDS. A YOUNG WOMAN CAN TRY AND LOOK VERY PRETTY WITHOUT BECOMING WHORISH AT ALL. LOOKING UGLY LIKE THE WHOLLY SHAVEN AND BLACK CLAD WOMEN IN CERTAIN COMMUNITIES IS CHILLUL HASHEM AND GOING BEDARCHE' HAGOYIM. AT TIMES, ONE HAS TO MAKE EFFORTS TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN CERTAIN RUSSIAN ORTHODOX NUNS AND CERTAIN SICKLY LOOKING ASHKENAZI CHAREDI WOMEN WHO ARE DRESSED ALMOST THE SAME WAY.
11. Tali, do you know nice frum girls for me? :)
Avraham ,   NYC   (05.10.07)
12. Ynet - t his lady is really tedious and
(05.10.07)
should get herself another job somewhere.
13. people may think i'm tzniut..but really
johanna ,   tsfat   (05.10.07)
i'm just lazy...:) i was never into wearing makeup when i was secular and i'm not into it now, now i'm observant. now i get brownie points i don't deserve because people think i don't make myself up because i'm so "frum" & modest. its just not true. i just can't be bothered. its not important to me. i could probably do with a few lessons in how to make the best of myself. :) when i go to weddings all the young girls look amazing...so i don't know where Tali gets the idea that they don't want to look good. all the ones i know seem pretty into to me. (tho not to excess of course)
14. beauty
chava ,   yerushalayim   (05.10.07)
Usually dati'im know. Many seculars and even non-Jews know. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. How many times have you looked at a woman and thought she was plain. And then, as you got to know her, you noticed that she was beautiful -- and not just you noticed, but many others as well. Beauty comes from inside and shows outside. Just open your heart along with you eyes.
15. Yawn - more drivel, random thoughts.....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (05.10.07)
by a self-absorbed writer with too much time on her hands.
16. More anti-religious nonsense from this self-hating Jewess.
David E. ,   Jerusalem   (05.10.07)
What rubbish she writes! Looking good is taboo for religious girls??? Where in the world did you pick this up from??? If you'd have said the opposite, I'd believe you. A Jewish girl/woman always tries to look good and pretty. Besides YNet, is there anyone out there who believes the nonsense she comes up with? Tali, how much money do you make for degrading and bashmootzing and being motzi-shem-ra on religious Jews?
17. Since you only see BAD in relgious Jews,
David E. ,   Jerusalem   (05.10.07)
it's impossible that you are part of the religious Jewish society. You live in Bnai Brak, like I do. Baloney! If you are Jewish at all, I'd recomment you learn the laws of Lashon Hara, Shmirat Halashon! You must be a very depressed woman since only unhappy and depressed people ALWAYS find fault with others. I feel bad for your husband, if you have one.
18. TALI
israel   (05.10.07)
I think that we all should stop giving our opinions on tali's garbage and maybe that way she wouldn/t be allowed to write such disgraceful articles.
19. Grace is deceitful? That’s a lie
Z W   (05.10.07)
In the secular world a well dressed woman is "attractively dresses". Who is she trying to "attract", the roaches, pigeon droppings, or the other half? Being beautiful or well dressed isn't the problem. It's when a girl dresses to attract that creates a problem. i.e. tight tops, skirts, slits, etc. Dressin to attract is the opposite of "tznius"; being well dressed is not.
20. beauty
will ,   london uk   (05.10.07)
Tali you hit the nail on the head let me quote Rashi exodus chap 38v 8 the copper mirrors that the jewish women used to beautify themselves for their husbands were very dear to hashem and that is why they were used to make the washbaisins for the tabernacle . the maharal explains that the jewish men came home tired from the slavery in egypt and the women used to beatify themselves for their husbands and thus produce children worthy of redemption this is one explanation of the phrase because of righteious women the israelites were redeemed from Egypt
21. Tali's personal blog
(05.10.07)
Hi, I'm secular, even "worse" - I'm a complete and utter atheist. I read her pieces a couple of times, well, mostly the talkbacks. I think you're missing the point - Tali's lonely, has noone to talk to, and uses Y-net as her personal blog, that otherwise noone would read. She doesn't "expose" anything about the haredim - we know all we need to know, and also lots of what you don't want us to know. But mostly, we know that people always remain people, even the god-fearing ones: they are racist, and deceitful, and vain, and greedy. They are also kind, generous and capable of amazing acts of grace, both physical and moral, regardless of their religion and ethnicity. If Tali thinks she is revealing something new, she needs to talk to someone who doesn't live in her head. Her only fan is Attilla, that says something already.... Tihiyi briyah, Talush...
22. HERE WE GO TALI!!!!!!!!!!!!
DAVID M ,   PARIS FRANCE   (05.10.07)
Tali. you know its not that bad what you re talking about. Tzniout means modesty means to dress like a princess. Each jewish women is the daughter of a Melech. I vent seen until today the daughter of a king wearing a provocative outfit. There s the fashion t hat Torah gives and that each jewish woman is supposed to follow and of course there s the goyishe fashion. . Anyways we forgive your article just because you re cute. tzlacha raba for next article
23. Yet again, she's frum? [dubious]
David ,   Israel   (05.10.07)
24. sorry
B ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (05.10.07)
It seems that you have not visited the religous circles in quite a long time. Most people around me, get their eyebrows (and more) done. Have full faces of makeup, dressed trendy and up to date AND modestly. Come visit again you may rewrite your article.
25. Dear ynet, put her away and
Esther ,   B.B.   (05.10.07)
take her out maybe for Purim, ok? But don't let her frighten too many kids. She really is creepy looking, whoever this photo belongs to.
26. Stop bashing Tali
S tu   (05.10.07)
Tali is doing a great job! It is great to see a dati working lady, who is able to speak about normal every day things! This is how bridges are built! This is how we learn to live together! Don't bash her. Congratulate her. I am sure her community is terrified of what she might say. She does not need any discouragement! We need more Tali's!
27. Queen Esther was no dog
Ima Bleever ,   Anytown USA   (05.10.07)
Tali, do not listen to people when they act like elitists and tell you that you or your opinions do not matter. Such people are self important elitists. No problem is too big or too small to be discussed... unless you're just "too good for it". No one is breaking their arm making them read. They bash you so they can feel important, intellectual, etc. You are a very beautiful young woman. By now you surely have discovered that beauty is power. With power comes responsibility. Because you have great beauty, you have great responsibility. It means that you are a ruler of sorts. You can choose to be good and force the men looking at you to behave. Or you can choose to be evil and wreck many lives and perhaps even souls. As such, how can this issue be a small one? Queen Esther of ancient Israel was an incomparable beauty who married the King BECAUSE she won a beauty pageant. She never felt the need to hide her intense beauty from the people. But she was a good person and God used her mightily. She is one of my heroes. Without her, there would BE no Jews. God gave you your beauty to offset the greater physical strength men have. Women's strength is internal. Women have more self control, and as such, often end up as men's secret masters - even in oppressive societies. Don't let my pen name fool you. I am a man. I appreciated your article. It serves as a constant reminder for me to be alert not to fall under someone's spell, lest I become her slave. Islam has proven that forcing women into "trash bags" for clothes as a form of "modesty" is a failure. It was really a false attempt at controlling lusty men who should have simply controlled themselves. Jesus taught prostitutes and other sinners. As such, He had to hang around with them. If I am to do the same, then I must suffer the temptations they bring to the table. If I do not control myself, all hell breaks loose in my life... and possibly in yours. The world needs another Esther. Feel free. And now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go control myself. Shaloam/Salaam/Peace.
28. umatzata chen beeney -- vaadam
Abe ,   Ny   (05.11.07)
She brings up a great point. Are we as a people being beautiful? Do we have chen? Not just women but our religious men! Lets honestly look around,at how we dress and look ,how we APPEAR! IT IS IMPORTANT FOLKS!!! TOO MUCH FOCUS ON INTERNAL ONLY LEAVES LOTS OF UGLIES! AFFECTS OUR POTENTIAL SHIDDUCHIM,AS WELL AS OUR INTERACTIONS WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD
29. Grace is deceitful and beauty is vain
Steve ,   USA   (05.11.07)
B"H The translation of "sheker hahayn vehevel hayofee" that I know of is "Charm is deceptive and beuty is nuaght". It comes from Proverbs 31:10-31. The quote continues "...a G-d-fearing womain is the one to be praised. Give her praise for her accomplisments, and let her deeds laud her at the gates." This reminds me of the section in the Jewish morning prayer, "My G-d, the soul which You have given within me is pure. You have created it, You have formed it, You have breathed it into me, and You preserve it within me. You will eventually take it from me, and restore it within me in Time to Come." That is a point on the deception of Charm. The soul's purpose can be deceived through charm and beauty as much a distraction for a woman as for a man. For a beautiful woman, it can be an especially big challenge. Because there is a standard set for that beauty that can detract from the soul's mission in this world. Expectations are set that a beautiful woman make herself into an idol and that she praises her beauty in sacrifice of her soul's mission. And then when she grows old, there is no beauty. There is nothing left to praise except for the pure soul which is set to give an accounting. There is no charm to present beauty with. It is all lost except for what the soul and body have done for good that lasts. Therefore the focus needs to be on the soul which is everlasting and not on the physical beauty that is tempermental. It holds for both men and women. Good Shabbos.
