Mars Bars are scrumptious!Give some to your grandkids while you are knitting for them and singing them lullabies..if you have time for them away from your computer(made in Belgium).

You were talking only about the Lubavitch ? Then you are maybe right . But i wonder that if a community has 1700 people associated there is only one kosher bakery .
33. How can it be kosher?
Ben Azai ,   London, England   (05.16.07)
I don't understand how, if they are using a treifa ingredient, the product can still be kosher, as the London Beth Din Kashrus Division has apparently suggeted. Can someone explain?

Last year, Duncan Hines changed their parve cake mix to dairy and there were a lot of unhappy people. They received many complaints and changed the recipe back to the original. Maybe Masterfoods has no idea how many vegetarian and kosher consumers buy their products. Send an email and let them know. Meanwhile, support Israel by buying their fabulous chocolates. http://www.snickers.com/contact.asp
36. Hides are not considered meat, and can be mixed with milk.
John ,   USA   (05.17.07)
Yum.......and dry bones are not unclean. Which makes me think, of "RECLAMATION" of them dry bones from defilement (humor on).
37. #33 - how this can be kosher
Chocolate eater   (05.17.07)
I'm no expert on the kosher laws but from what I understand there are two reason as to why the chocolates continue to be considered kosher. The first is that only something that is considered food and edible can actually qualify to be considered kosher or not. This rennet cannot be eaten by itself and in no way effects the actual taste or nutritional value of the food. So there is room to consider it not a food, hence it doesn't make the chocolate not kosher. The second reason is that there is a prinicipal in the kosher laws that a not kosher ingredient can be cancelled out if it is less than a 1/60 of the total ingredients. Again I think the rationale here is that once the quantity is so small it no longer influences the actual food. The London Bet Din have said that the amount of rennet in the chocolates is less than 1/60 hence its effect is nullified, and the chocolates are kosher
38. Not in USA Snickers Bars
Jerry Sussman ,   Alexandria, USA   (05.17.07)
Hi. Being a devoted consumer of Snickers, I was alarmed at the suggestion that there were animal products in my favorite candy. I wrote to Masterfoods USA, and told them that they had lost one loyal customer. I just got off the phone with them. They assured me that the formula for USA Snickers had not changed, and that Snickers sold in the USA do not have any animal products. What a relief!
39. Snickers are alright....but I LIKE M&M's
John ,   USA   (05.18.07)
THE BEST. Peanut ones.
40. #38 Thanks Jerry, I still won't buy them
malka ,   los angeles   (05.18.07)
We can help Israeli and European friends/families by sending the co. a little email and by not buying their products until they revert to the original kosher/vegetarian formula. Could you enjoy a Snickers bar knowing that someone in London or Tel Aviv could not? http://www.snickers.com/contact.asp

Daniel van Dalen ,   Jerusalem   (05.18.07)
Yes, there are about 1700 people. About 100 of them keep kashrut. There are 7 synagogues. Three of them are orthodox. (One is reform, and the other three I have never heard of, they do not exist as far as I know, except as museums.) One of the three is only open on Shabbat and Yom Tov. One of the three is only open on Shabbat and Yom Tov and a few other minyanim, but not all services. And only one of the three is struggling to have 3 minyanim per day. Charles, I have lived there for 7-8 months. I know what I am talking about.

43. #40 and all Americans, keep out of this
Israbrit   (05.18.07)
Your snickering stuff there is nothing to do with Masterfood UK. Just digest that,ok? Brits in the US don't go near the stuff there, they stock up on trips to the UK, as we did. Now that Masterfood has become Master Fodder, we need to chew this cud really well and then decide...
44. M&M's will conquer the planet!
John ,   USA   (05.18.07)
If you want to eat candies by Mars......ONLY M&M's are certified KOSHER (all varities excluding the pastel ones). If you want veggie candies...then thats a little different. Walmart has the big packs for .88. The regular size for .44.

Is it a long time ago since you were in Prague ? Maybe some things have changed a little bit since then ? You are right when saying that some of the 7 synaguoges serve only as museums .

48. rennet
to #37   (05.22.07)
If a food becomes a non-food, then you can use it for whatever you want. If you make rennet from a kosher animal, kosher slaughtered, tgen you use it for the manufacture of cheese. But the rennet of a treif animal stays treif, even if it is no longer food. This ruling dates back to the RI Migash (accented on the a) as say Ashkenazim, or Even Megas (accent on the e as say the Sfaradim) the teacher of the teacher of Maimonides he died when Maimonides was about 5 y old.) How the law was before, from Shavuot in the year following the exit from Egypt, until ca 1140 AD, is anybody's guess. Awraham
