1. IF I FORGET THEE JERUSALEM----
al mann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.15.07)
People have already forgotton the meaning of Jerusalem in our history. The study of the Bible in the schools is minimal. There is no longer the emotion of 1967 when Jerusalem was reunited after many years of division. Few remember the Jerusalem of David and Solomon. We have forgotten, unfortunately, the meaning of the word holiness and its ramifications. We forgot about Abraham and Isaac on Mount Moriah. History is waning into insignificance. If we have no past then we will have no future. Our entire reason for being here is being lost. Why should anyone come here?
2. Yom Yeroushalaim
charles ,   petach tikva   (05.15.07)
There is nothing done here [ in P.T. ] for this day . To have more people visiting our Capital there is an urgent need for better public transportation , trains . Not to Malha , as it is today , but to the center , as it is planned and built . Why not make an official feast day ?
3. "polls"
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (05.15.07)
To Shoshi becker or whoever conducted the poll: What do you refer by "celebrating" Jerusalem Day ??? It's not a day off from work or from schools - that people would be able to travel, hang in a bbq, what whatever the case - Could someone from gesher define what they meant-if they know themselves ofcourse- what they meant by celebrating ?? May be singing Halel ? I'm at a total loss by the lack profesionalism by pollers and for Ynet for publishing this trash
4. why is this a surprise?
hanina   (05.15.07)
I've been to the wall and was told it was not my wall but 'their' wall. Until the jewish people are united, jerusalem and the whole state of israel will continue to be divided. tell the rabbis in israel not to speak badly about galut jews. We are all one people after all.
5. uummm we Israelis don't celebrate Jerusalem Day?....
(05.15.07)
probably because we have to work on this day!
6. 65% ?
Joseph ,   London England   (05.15.07)
65% don't observe Jerusalem Day? Do Israeli schools observe it? Are there major national events? The article leaves out quite a lot.
7. misleading headline
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (05.16.07)
"observe" jerusalem day What is it?a kind of shabat with its own laws that there is anyhting to observe here? what the hell does Gesher bear in mind by "observing"?
8. jerusalem day
sas ,   israel   (05.16.07)
why celebrate? do most other capitals have their day. and please do not tell me jerusalem is something special. it is a very complicated city with severe economic problems. the secular and good people are leaving for other cities.
9. sas,
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (05.16.07)
secular and -----good people ---- are leaving ....... could you elaborate a little bit more please on "good people" point
10. Omissions
EM ,   Ra'anana   (05.16.07)
Were any Arabs included in the poll? Like it or not...they are major players in the reunification.
11. Marking Jerusalem Day
Sharona Rubin ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.16.07)
Jerusalem Day desperately needs a menu. Every other chag has its own distinctive food: Rosh Hashana-sweet, Yom Kippur-none, Hanukah-donuts, Purim-hamentashim, Pesach-matza, Shavuot-dairy. I think Jerusalem Day should be celebrated with chocolate, since it was a delicious miracle that astonished the whole world! (an idea tossed around last Shabbat by Rabbi Woliki)
12. The Bible Warns We Would One Day See 65% (2/3) . . .
Craig Crawford ,   Laguna Niguel   (05.16.07)
The message found in the Bible is not trivial . . . IT IS STAGGERING!!! "And it shall come to pass in all the Land [Israel], says the Lord, That two-thirds of it shall be cut off and die, but one-third shall be left in it: (only one-third in Israel will survive ... even fewer in the world) I will bring the one-third through the fire, will refine them as gold is tested. They will call on my Name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'This is My people'; and each one will say, 'the LORD is my God.'" (Zechariah 13:8-9) "For I am God, and there is no other. for I am God, and there is none like me . . .  Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done." (Isaiah 46:9-10) "Search from the book of the LORD, and read: not one of these [prophecies] shall fail; not one shall lack her mate. For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them." (Isaiah 34:16) "Indeed I [God] have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it. Listen to Me, you stubborn-hearted, who are far from righteousness . . ." (Isaiah 46:11-12) "BEFORE the decree is issued, BEFORE day passes like chaff, BEFORE the LORD'S fierce anger comes upon you, BEFORE the day of the LORD'S anger comes upon you! SEEK the LORD, all you meek of the Earth, who have upheld His justice. SEEK righteousness, SEEK humility. It may be that you will be hidden in the day of the LORD'S anger." (Zephaniah 2:2-3) The time draws near ... turn away from your foolish sins and hardened hearts ... return to the Lord and His Word ... with open arms and with tears of joy He will welcome home any and all who will return. Berlin has also her reunification day . The other capitals were united , not separated . And YES , Yeroushalaim is something very special for us Jews , seculars and religious . It's a part of our ancient history , history not only written in books , but live on every place . The severe economic problems are not related to this day , they exist .
14. Visiting Jerusalem
James ,   Israel   (05.16.07)
I am not proud that I do not visit Jerusalem. I would love to. However, every time I go there, I see streams of so-called ultra-orthodox and it puts me off
15. #8 SAS
James ,   Israel   (05.16.07)
Secular and good people are leaving... Are you saying that secular are not good people?
16. Should be a day off work!!!
Meir ,   Beit Shemesh   (05.16.07)
Well, yes it should be a day off work, but then would people celebrate it!?It appears that for the left it is a Tisha Bav, a day to commerate the "tragedy" of the occupation, and for the haredim, they ignore it, which leaves the national religious, and some other nationalist or right people. When will we stop being embarassed about being proud of ourselves?"
17. 15 and 8 deSASter op
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (05.16.07)
......Are you saying that secular are not good people? ... or that the ones staying to live in Jerusalem aren't good..... another parshanut
18. To #16 Meir
EM ,   Ra'anana   (05.16.07)
Maybe you can start the trend of being proud of "us"... first step would be to accept that not everyone thinks exactly as you do...and be proud of the variety!
19. Meir , beth Shemesh
charles ,   petach tikva   (05.16.07)
Meir , the last poll results gave that 96 % of Israeli Jews won't give up the Kotel for peace . So you have only 4 % who can consider Yom Yeroushalaim as a Tisha Beav . If you read my other tb you know that i'm secular , and becoming it more and more because of people like you . Do you think your ultra extremist religious views will make you more respected and tolerated by the seculars , and even by the Religious Zionist ? You are wrong .
20. #14 jerusalem is great for seculars too
Gidi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.16.07)
I'm secular and the city is just fine, in fact perfect. There are literally hundreds of pubs and clubs to hang out, excellent restaurants and of course the most beautiful scenery in the world. Jerusalem is a great place to walk in, it's astounding to drive on the road and see the walls of the old city, to step into museums... there are shopping malls, there are cinema parlours, there is everything one needs... In fact more and more places are opened every day. So a typical day in Jerusalem can be walking to the western wall, drinking a cafe overviewing the city, strolling the Haas promendae or Yemin Moshe, simply extraordinary places. And the fact you can see different clerks and people all together is touching and unique... there is something to everyone. Teddy Stadium is just magnificent, and there is the most gorgeous zoo right beside it... there are theatres, there are stand up comedies, there are large concerts, events, there are parties - the evening of student day in jerusalem hosted 10,000's of people and so did the beitar jerusalem at the immense Garden of Saker and Indepdence Garden.... Employment ? Maybe not as Tel Aviv, but there are many offices, there is Intel, IDT, Teva, there is the government and the parliament... except the stock exchange it really has it all. And the future ? More and more places are opening up. There is a one-in-the-world new bridge being built and new roads and a hi-tech Train, A TRAIN which will travel in all Jerusalem one day. This city is the BEST. All these complainign articles are nothing but mentally depressed people always looking for the problem and not fixing what's wrong and improving our quality of life, which really isn't bad at all. We have a country, we have a capital, let's rejoice and not stroll in our own pathetic whining all the time.

if you are becoming more and more secular i can certainly recommend MARS BARS for you and your grandkids;why not become an atheist then you can really have a "feast" ??
22. Sas , where are your answers ?
charles ,   petach tikva   (05.17.07)
people asked you to explain your writing . You wrote ...secular and good people are ....this can be interpreted in different ways . what did you mean ? That only bad and religious remain ? That's insulting for a part of them [ not the religious , but the others you qualify bad ]
23. A beach for Jerusalem????
David Severy ,   Baltimore, MD, USA   (05.17.07)
