2. Condy Rice wants all checkpoints down+ bus service from GAZA
Alan ,   SA   (05.16.07)
Let her organise a Gaza to Washington airline shuttle first!
3. Was this so called ceasefire written and signed?
Talula ,   Israel   (05.16.07)
If so, I think the people of Israel deserve to see a copy of the terms and agreements regarding this so called ceasefire. Did it state that they were allowed to fire rockets into Israel at will, but Israel isn't allowed to respond? Because that's seems to be the case. Therefore, no ceasefire has been broken, because there wasn't one to start with. Now, can someone translate that to our Defence Minister. He doesn't seem to understand.
4. #2 - A spine? I would think it's those round things!!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (05.16.07)
But ths is NOT ENOUGH!!
5. Terrorists cannot fight back.....
DR ,   Florida, USA   (05.16.07)
when they are hiding under tables and under rocks like rats!!! Good job IDF!!!
6. Ummm...explanation please?
Eric ,   Israel   (05.16.07)
Why are we all jumping up and down in joy? Dare I ask what we have accomplished with this strike? We bombed a building and killed 4 people; this is supposed to solve the problem? What we are doing is reminding Fatah and Hamas who they really hate while what we should be doing is letting them continue to fight it out....let them weaken themselves so our position grows stronger. Oh Israel...we go for peace at the wrong times and we go for war at the wrong times. Not to mention the fact that we rarely do it correctly when we go for either.
7. 7 or 4 ??
(05.16.07)
8. Weak Tit for Tat Response
rh ,   Ashdod Israel   (05.16.07)
Either respond properly or not at all. This will only serve rally Hamas and Fatah to stop killing each other. Ground forces must occupy and evacuate part of Gaza strip. All that will be reported in the news is Palestinians attacked Israel and Israel responded as part of the cycle of violence. Has no one got any imagination on a better response.
9. It is the IDF front line officers
ben ,   singapore   (05.16.07)
the actual soldiers on the ground fighting the terrorist but NOT PERETZ the PERVERT. Peretz dosent deserve and PRaise ! BUT THE IDF DO !
10. Am I mistaken or has masked character got Mickey Mouse ears
Alan ,   SA   (05.16.07)
like that one Hamas uses to hype up their kids against Jews
11. Bad idea.
Alexander ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (05.16.07)
Hamas and Fatah are slaughtering each other so eagerly and efficiently that IDF involvement simply isn't necessary. The best idea right now is sit back, point at them and laugh.
12. Fully agree with number 6
Nachash Tsefah ,   Tel Aviv   (05.16.07)
There is no comprehensive and coherent policy in Israel; everything is done ad hoc and without any long term planning. Israel has at times shown tactical brilliance but our strategic thinking - or lack thereof - has been a disaster. This phenomenon is possibly a consequence of living under constant pressure with very limited resources and not having the luxury of time to think and plan; it's also a major part of the "yiheyeh beseder" attitude.
13. #6 - Where you stand
SammyTT ,   NYC   (05.16.07)
Finally somebody speaks the truth. "The best thing Israel can do is sit back and let the Pals fight it out." When things are going bad amongst the Pals, Hamas is great at trying to restore unity by attacking Israel. And so they did by attacking Sderot. However, what do you say to these people in Sderot. Suck it up and just keep taking the Qassamim? It's such a difficult deal for people there. One thing Israel is not doing enough of is blasting the media worldwide with a "see what happens when we leave Gaza" or "What are we supposed to do in Sderot" type message. Why is it so difficult for Livni or Olmert or somone to call a news conference and push this message to the world?
14. Answers for Talula
Hani ,   Palestinian Vagabond   (05.16.07)
>>Why should anyone give your government funds when all it does is buy arms to kill Israelis instead of taking care of the basic fundamental welfare of the Palestinian people?<< This is absolute nonsense. We are not asking anyone for money. We could repair the power stations bombed by Israel ourselves. If only, you would leave us alone. I’m talking airspace, borders, farmland, and for God’s sake, uproot the settlements everywhere. >>Why should anyone give you any funds at all? << If Arab and European states would like to extend the occupied Palestinian people some assistance, it is their business and theirs alone. Why should the American tax-payer finance the brutal murder of Palestinian children? >>You are taking water and electricity from a country that your government says does not exist – Interesting, how does that work then?<< The PLO as sole legal representative of the Palestinian people (and survivor of the Oslo charade) did recognize Israel on numerous occasions – not as a morally justified entity but as a reality we must deal with – for now. >>Why do you think we should be responsible for those things?<< We don’t ask for your charity. We ask you to pressure your govt. to QUIT what remains of historical Palestine. Otherwise face the bi-national state reality VERY soon. >>You have a government to go to. << No, you are mistaken. The Palestinian govt. no longer exists. It died. The American-imposed international boycott has killed it off a slow, painful death. Mahmood Abbas loves to brag about his compliance with signed agreements. We ask him to embrace reality. Oslo is dead, the agreements are null and void, since they were flawed to begin with. The whole phased approach is a dismal failure. It failed to deliver to our people what we’ve faught decades for: freedom and dignity. >>Why hasn't your government built the basic fundamental infrastructure for a country?<< Ummm..The last time I checked there is a big fat crater in the middle of Gaza Airport’s runway. It was neither Hamas nor Fatah who did that but that fatso Bulldozer Sharon. The port project’s funding was ready since 1996 – but Israel has consistently torpedoed the initiative. I don’t need to go on and on, the Palestinian govt. was not allowed to turn a single stone without Israel’s approval. Those days are gone, we had rather live by a candle than be anyone’s slave. >>And lastly, Hani, you don't need to be blaming Israel for all your problems.<< Again, quit our lands and airspace, return OUR tax money, then quit bitching. You think we are ignorant about the Jordan valley settlements. Every day you continue to build more settlements in and around Jerusalem – yet your idiot of a PM claims he wants peace. Only time will expose war-mongering fraudsters.
15. Let hamas and Fatah use up their weapons on eachother
(05.16.07)
It's a waste of resources and fire power to get involved in their civil matters. Put the effort into protecting the Israelis on the southern border. Why can't the Qassams be shot down before they land near where people live? I thought Israel had developed a missile system for shooting down rockets?
16. In response to #13
Eric ,   Israel   (05.16.07)
I'm from Israel and I am Israeli so I understand what its like to live with the prospect of war and terrorism. Granted, I have never lived under the type of bombardment that Sderot is going through. However, and as "sick" as this may be, we cannot claim to be an intricate part of the world and then pretend like what happens on our borders doesn't affect the world. That is not to say we should stand idly by until the world says "go" but we should definitely take into account the larger political situation in the region and get some general long term planning as Nachash Tsfah mentioned in #12. Regarding our international PR; no doubt that we do not have one and if there is one thing I tip my hat to the Arabs for its their PR to the world. Who else could call for jihad and aid at the same time and get both? We could learn a lot from those we claim to be step-siblings with
17. To #6 Eric - They know who they hate
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (05.16.07)
Enough is enough! You fight fire with fire. The Palestinians have butchered, maimed and done everything thay can to destroy our country since time began. This hatred has nothing to do with "occupation" the West Bank or Gaza. It is just the denial of the rights of the Jewish people (I am secular and totally a-religious) to live in our home. We signed Olso, we signed Wye, we pulled out of Lebanon. We pulled our of Gaza and some settlements on the West Bank. And what did we get - more Israelis killed and injured, Intifada 2 and a war in Lebanon! And you still want an "explanation"? Well, the explanations is: You want to hurt us, we will hurt you back but much harder!
18. PLANNED SUMMER WAR BEGINS EARLY
ZALMAN ,   Central Coast, USA   (05.16.07)
Israel chose this target because it knows hamas will not relent, nor let this move go uncontested, smart move by the IDF to trigger the inevitable
19. To #14
Eric ,   Israel   (05.16.07)
Firstly, I agree with you that Israel did not leave Gaza but we simply repositioned. We control the borders, the air, and the water and that means we control Gaza. With that said, I have a couple problems with what you wrote. People on both sides want what is historically theirs. The Palestinians want Palestine which they believe to be modern day Israel and according to the Torah and thus popular Jewish believe, we want historical Israel up to the Euphrates. May I suggest that both sides are stupid? Neither one is going to get what they believe historically belongs to them. Israel isn't going to keep 100% of the territories we have now. I see absolutely no reason to keep East Jerusalem (I know no Israeli Jew who has been there and the one Israeli Arab I know who has been claims the signs are mostly in arabic as well). The Palestinian demand for right of return is beyond stupid...why do you want to return to a different country if you are going to have your own? Both sides need grow up a bit before we are ever going to have peace because right now BOTH sides want the same thing (the other side to disappear and for the other side to make all concessions first) and BOTH sides are saying the same thing and that is "the other side is wrong and we are right". Lastly, I don't buy the argument that the Palestinians have no infrastructure because Israel bombs Gaza. Use the tunnels in Rafah to bring in food and medicine instead of weapons and I guarantee that Israel no longer has a valid reason in the eyes of anyone not to make peace.
20. Without fighting #17, let me explain
Eric ,   Israel   (05.16.07)
I'm not "left" and I'm not "right"...I believe in Israel so please keep that in mind as you read this. We signed Oslo, yes that is correct. However, we brought what we deemed to be a terrorist organization from abroad right to our borders. You mean to tell me that we expected them to land and just be nice about it? Do me a favor... Regarding Gaza, we did not leave..we repositioned. Regardless of the fact that the Palestinians can use the tunnels for food instead of weapons, we still control the borders as well as the air and sea and by that definition we control Gaza. We pulled out (AKA: ran away from) Lebanon in 2000; agreed. We continued flying jets into Lebanon for intelligence purposes vital to our military and security; true. Would we attack Syria if their airforce entered Israel for intelligence purposes; yes. I agree with your frustration and anger; it hurts to see our own die and suffer. However, "fire with fire" and "eye for an eye" has been the practice of both sides since the beginning of time and you are trying to convince me that NOW it will work? I'm not suggesting "well, lets just talk to them no matter what" but what I am suggesting is a plan...not a knee-jerk reaction to every fart that comes out from the arab world.
21. that's indane!
oded   (05.16.07)
in any other normal country ,with normal leadership, this kassam bulshit would be dealt with in a very tough fashion-- disconnect the electricity and water. no power ,no manufacturing of kassam. carpet bomb all the areas from where these kasams are being fired.... cluster bomb should be used. but this not a normal leadership!
22. #8 this has been a test strike by the government
observer   (05.16.07)
Unless the public stop pressing them, they are going on full-blown stike.
23. #21 absolutly correct, the subjects should be normal for
(05.16.07)
the king to normal !
24. #21 disconnect the electricity ! do you realy believe that
(05.16.07)
the Palestinians will lose the "power" ?
25. #1, Wrong, still no spine
AK   (05.16.07)
The evidence of the spine would be if Israelis eradicated the entire hamas monster, not bombed one building. This action is totally meaningless, doesn't stop Arabs from terrorizing Israelis, nor does it present any reason for optimism for a peaceful future. It is only for show to shut you up for now.
26. #20 Eric, you're not left nor right, you're up in the air
AK   (05.16.07)
You're in a lala land. You believe that Israel has to make concessions to the people who want to eradicate them; give to them East Jerusalem (why exactly? The fact that you don’t consider ‘East” Jerusalem as important to you doesn’t mean the Jews feel the same, considering that it is the most holy and revered site for the majority of the Jews); you’re pooh, poohing over Arafat’s braking every promise and engaging in an unspeakable violence against Israelis as a thank you for the territory; expect Israel to shrink back to the indefensible 'Auschwitz" lines; and then you are assuring us that you support Israel's right to exist. Somehow your proposals do not square off with your claims of good will towards Israel.
27. Israel is finished. Israelis should get out.
Gary A. MD ,   Boston USA   (05.16.07)
How funny, Israel has been destroyed from within by it's own stupid leaders who do not have the basic courage to defend it's citizens. All your high tech weapons, and Israel cannot even defend it's elderly. Israel has become a joke, a mockery, a state without a brain or a bit of courage. Time to go Israeli's.
28. #27...a little rash don't you think?
DR ,   Florida, USA   (05.16.07)
Israel has its problems but to say they are finished is crazy!!! It is still a young country going through a learning curve...I believe the US went through the same trials and tribulations. Your attitude suggests that Israelis are weak and that they should stop fighting and give up? Never!!! Stick to Medicine!!
29. #26...fair and here are my thoughts
Eric ,   Israel   (05.16.07)
Ok, I see where you are coming from and this brings us to an important question...are we at war with the Palestinians and the Arab world or are we at war with extremists? If we are at war with the Palestinians and with the Arab world then I say take the gloves off and the big bombs out and go wild. However, if we are only fighting the extremists then I do not believe your approach is fair. How are the Arabs who burn Israeli flags and chant for our deaths any different then Baruch Marzel and his people who burned Nasrallah's picture and chanted for the death of the Palestinians during lag baomer? It is an ugly situation and we will NEVER get out of it if they say "eye for an eye" and we say "fire for fire". We will NEVER get out of it if they say "well this is our land and we are more correct then them and tough luck" and if we say "well we are more right then them so tough luck to them". Take Hebron for example...they like the city because Abraham (their father) is there. We like the city for the reason. So, instead of admitting that we both have the same interests we (both) just claim the other side are murders and need to die. We are not at war with the Arab world. We are war with the extremists and, unfortunately, there are both Muslim and Jewish extremists that are not helping this situation at all.
30. #19, Eric, you still want to compromise
AK   (05.16.07)
even when the other side will never compromise. Don't you understand the Muslim concept of 'hudna', a temporary compromise, which also happens to be the only compromise with infidels? How is it that you live so close to the Muslims, yet you have learnt so little about their way of thinking? You are a Westerner and arrogantly you presume that your logic is everybody's logic. Well, it isn't. Sometimes compromises are not possible . You must make your plans with that in mind. We all must.
