31. And they will always be ignored
Korem ,   New York, USA   (05.18.07)
Only yesterday when the barrage began, I got into a debate with some European anti-Israel nut, and he said "Qassams are no excuse to reoccupy and torture the people of Gaza. Qassams are harmless, they've killed only about 10 people". Don't any of you get it yet? Europe and everyone else, except the USA, will never care about any suffering on Israel's side, and if they hear of it, they will either deny it, say that it is disproportionate to Palestinian casualties, or is justified. That's the people who hate Israel- news stories about Qassams won't change them. It's time for Israel to stop caring what the world thinks, and follow only its own moral principles (which are quite high).
32. atention seeking!
chad ,   usa   (05.18.07)
There are far more important stories than: prison inmate (Gaza)fires homemade rocket at prison guard (Israel). I could care less myself. You guys chose to establish a country which would be surrounded by a billion Arabs yet complain when they want the good ole' days of Arab solidarity. You guys are welcome in America. Leave Israel, come here and end the middle east strife. .
33. 6 And Russ Ive heard nothing here about the
freedom ,   canada   (05.18.07)
missile attacks from gaza into Sderot. So there is a point that only the palestinian cause seems to be highlighted. Then again what can one expect from it would seem a biased UN> Please UN prove me wrong.
34. good report
Eileen Schwartz ,   Austin, Texas   (05.18.07)
Interesting, educational report. And from what I see in the U.S. news, an accurate report on media attention, or lack thereof, to the story.
35. Media lies are anti-semitic at the root
Bernard Ross ,   st. anns bay,jamaica   (05.18.07)
Ignoring the kassams are part of the same anti semitic media war propogated mainly by the europeans
36. Lack of media coverage
herb glatter ,   pittsburgh, pa, usa   (05.18.07)
Fox cable news reporting Gaza infighting and rockets falling into Israel, i surfed CNN, Msnbc saw no mention at that time. all to predictable. we Jews can only count on ourselves.
37. people alive do not sell well...
Hiram ,   tel-aviv   (05.18.07)
...this is true from a journalistic point of view. The Israeli cyclist who died on the road while other drivers did not stop attracted more attention ! This being said, I have not seen anyone wondering why so many rockets have done so little damage in terms of casualties...I have not seen anyone wonder why most of the Qassams land in open fields...this should be a good subject of reflection. Time is not about complaining if the press coverage is right or wrong, time is now to make decisions on how to terminate this unacceptable situation, show some determination and do what it takes. Israel's military establishement use to be the best in the world, second to none. May be the time is ripe to show commitment to the Israelis instead of trying to find out who will be the next prime minister, the next foreign affairs ministers and such. FInally , we, Israelis are not better than our Arab cousins: we run after power and let our own interest take over the nations's well being. And please, do not tell me that Israeli politicians are better than the rest of them....they could even be the worst. Stop depending so much on others. Take your destiny in your own hands and strike wherever it is necessary.
38. #2 how many non-Jews plug into Israeli media?
(05.18.07)
Not those who make quick judgement, i.e., majority of public.
39. NO MORE TIT FOR TAT...
RCA ,   USA   (05.18.07)
Hit the terrorists where it hurts. How long must Israelis suffer Qassams ? There are enough falling missiles over there to open up several junk yards. The lack of coverage should be a cue to the IDF to deal a severe blow to all concerned. Afterward, when hostile media get involved, take a lesson from the British. "STIFF UPPER LIP " and all that. Let G-D sort it out ! GET TOUGH !
40. #2 is not alone
Watchman ,   Finland   (05.18.07)
Yesterday even my 5-year old son asked that we pray for Israel at our evening prayer. The entire world of true followers of Yeshua the Messiah won't forget Israel in their prayers. But the lasting peace comes only when He returns.
41. False claims about lack of public interest. Considering
(05.18.07)
Have Your Say panels even such as on BBC for example and other int. media outlets, there is a huge amount of international public interest!
42. German political mag 'Der Spiegel' writes...
Bernd ,   Germany   (05.18.07)
...today that 'with its Gaza attacks Israel claims to react to Kassam fire'. Note: 'claims'. This is a prove that Kassam rocket fire hasn't been news up to the Israeli reaction. The Arab terror is simply ignored. Now can anyone explain to me how that goes along with the often claimed Jewish domination of the world media? Bernd, Germany, Old Europe
43. News isn't supposed to 'sell'! There are ethics!
(05.18.07)
44. Stop complaining and do something!
Tim - Brighton ,   UK   (05.18.07)
Its just mind blowing to see some of the talkbacks wallowing in victimhood and self pity. Though I sometimes CRINGE at the gross almost laughable BIAS of the BBC in the UK part of the problem lies WITH ISRAELI PR. Its negligible! It might have been in the past that World Media and Public Opinion did not matter but it sure does now. But this is something that has got to be worked for, done professionally and systematically and CERTAINLY NOT REACTIVELY. If Israels PR took the trouble to bring these attacks to the media BEFORE RETALIATION things could have been presented alot differently.
45. BRITAIN IS THE BIGGEST ENEMY OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE. BOYCOT IT
mandi ,   israel   (05.18.07)
they are anti zionist which reads anti jew. they hate the jews with passion and are to happy to see something bad happen to jews. the think gaza is part of the british empire. they are so sick to like barbarians only cos they are against the jews. we must do something about britain.
46. #41 There may well be public interest but
mother of four ,   Israel   (05.18.07)
the news broadcasts themselves are slanted so that the rocket attacks aren't mentioned. Sky News yesterday or the day before noted the helicopter missile attacks against a background of th continuing violence in the Gaza Strip. No mention AT ALL of the kassams on Sderot.
47. British reporting of Israel
Chris ,   Yorkshire   (05.18.07)
OK, so the UK should drop in no particular order. The last visit to The White House by Tony Blair as Prime Minister The vote for Gordon Brown to replace Tony Blair The race to be Deputy Prime Minister The search for Madeline McCann a four year old British National missing in Portugal Prince Harry not going to Iraq because it is to dangerous Global Warming Rising Interest rates The FA Cup Final BA setting aside £350 million in case they are fined All issues affecting the UK directly. BTW the Foreign Minister and Prime Minister both conemned the rockets yesterday. None of which are being reported in Israel
48. Rockets
Hans ,   the Hague Holland   (05.18.07)
Our western media are since long been taken over. They are biassed since many years now. And you can see how it influences the people in my country. They allways blame Israel for everything that happens in the Middle East. I get my news now from the Internet. Lucky enough that has still not been taken over by "them". I pray that the ordinary Jews of Israël will start to pray to God and read the prophets of the Tenach. They told you that this all was going to happen......Turn back and repent to God. Then He will save you. You must not expect help from other people. Only The Almighty can help you now. We christians will keep on praying for you but we are attacked too everywhere. These are the last days....the hour of Jacob's trouble is comming soon but he will be saved. Not because he is good but because he is God's eyeapple. God will hold His promises to your fathers. Just follow their good example.
49. # Chris Yorkshire
Tim - Brighton ,   UK   (05.18.07)
Chris thats not MY point. Clearly news priorities vary and agreed Kassam attacks on Israeli towns may not interest you. But then why is the BBC et al electrified into reporting just the ISRAELI retaliation without clear reference to the initial Hamas KASSAM attacks? Either report the WHOLE story ACCURATELY AND WITHOUT PREJUDICE or report nothing at all.
50. Forget the old media like bbc, reuters, etc
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (05.18.07)
Use more of the new media - the internet. Remember the fake and staged Lebanon war photos? It was the new media that generated so much buzz that the old media can't ignore but to follow suit. And use lots of photos showing casualties and/or damages. The bbc world service radio, in alan johnston's tradition, always describe the missles as "crudely made" qassams, as though they are just harmless kid's toys.
51. Muslims Secretly Organizing to Dominate YouTube
Tracy W   (05.18.07)
Little Green Footballs had the following segment on May 15th. "A reader who wishes to remain anonymous has forwarded a YouTube message he received, from a Muslim YouTube member who’s organizing a private group to promote Islamic videos and suppress criticism of Islam: "From: ... Date: May 14, 2007, 11:18 AM Subject: salam "to all muslim brothers and sisters please read "Our Islamic videos will not get full attention unless they come in the top ranked videos in youtube. For this purpose we all Muslims have to rate the videos to 5 stars and have to add them to our favorites. This will not be achieved if we Muslim Youtubers are scattered, i.e., one muslim rating one video and other muslim rating another. So we have to be highly organized. We will do a massive campaign of focusing to rate a single video collectively at once, so that it can show up on the top videos at least in the “Today’s top videos” list." This is just one way opinion is being swayed these days. It is important to focus on more than newspapers and TV. The younger generations do not read newspapers. They hardly ever watch the news on TV. Network viewership keeps going down. (I can only speak for US TV.) These younger generations, from pre-teens to thirty-nine are not fully literate. Their media now are the internet, music, pop culture in general. They must be reached using the internet because those adults are becoming parents to an even more ignorant generation. There are millions of us so by all means let's try to reach the TV networks and newspapers to try to correct their bias, but we must also fight back using modern media. Pictures are extremely important. Israel must make an extra effort to record the results of Arab violence on the country - both physical and emotional - and become pro-active in its efforts to expose its side of the story. Many peple do not react to a reasoned argument, they react with their guts, to the pictures presented in front of them. The NY subway poster campaign is right on the mark. We could use informative picture ads on magazines read by young people, such as technology and pop culture publications. Also it's important to reach out to the Hollywood crowd. I know they are not exactly role models for the most part, but some of them are decent folk who really want to lend their support to good causes. They have great influence, and they can counteract the rantings of the more left-leaning, "anti-Zionist" stars. And also it's very important to break down the barriers within college campuses, where pro-Israel voices are being deliberately silenced. College kids are the professionals of tomorrow, and they are being prevented from learning the truth. (Please refer to the Campus Watch website for more information.)
52. bias reporting
rj ,   england   (05.18.07)
living in england i get an outside view of what happens in Israel according to outside news media...i hear about how Israel is oppressive and are on a continued offensive cold bloddying murdering teh poor palestinians who have done nothing wrong but to live as Israels neighbours...what hardly ever is told is the barbarick ways palestinians go about not only murdering each other but the incessive ways they try to cold bloddied murder any Israeli child woman and man regardless of whether armed of going about their daily business as decent human beings do...the palestinians are the creators of violence in judea and samaria and are teh ones who resort to savage and barbarick ways to murder Israelis who really do only want peace...palestinians do not know or understand the meaning of peace unless it is totally their way and totally an islamic way without trace of Judaism or eventually christianity...the palestinians are as menacing as al quida and as menacing and dangerously sly as british moslems who constantly plan and deceive to destroy british culture and traditions...what is remarkable is for a religion (islam) that says it preaches peace and harmony can only do so when no new synagogues or churches are built and co-existance with Jews and christians and hindus etc... is not considered unless they convert themselves to islam....palestinians and moslems around the world need educating in not only democracy but in CO-EXCISTANCE with other religions and traditions of other countries not their own...what Israel does is purely in self defence and hopefully will continue until peace is drummed into the palestinains nature and mind...Am Israel Chai
53. Qassams Ignored abroad
Abraham Irwin ,   Passaic, NJ 07055   (05.18.07)
How about pictures of children cowering in bomb shelters. Attached is letter sent today to the New York Times. To the Editor: You continue to get it backwards. First came the rocket attacks on Sidorot and then the retaliation. A headline (“8 Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza Kill at Least 7” NYT Internet – Middle East 5/18/2007) should not start from the end of a story. The residents of Gaza scurrying from an Israeli attack has great imagery (NYT Print Page 1 5/1/2007), but for shear human interest, a picture of the children’s school hit by terrorist rockets would have been superior. I am not a journalist, but do wonder why your story is being spun in this manner. Your caption under picture on page 1 “NYT Print 5/18/2007) “Palestinians fled Thursday after an Israeli airstrike in Gaza. The attack was among eight by Israel Thursday and Friday that killed at least seven Palestinians and were aimed at the Hamas military wing and a Hamas-dominated police unit. Factional strife killed five other Palestinians” Why must one turn to page 12 to learn that the airstrike was in response to continuous rocket attacks from Gaza?
54. #53 - Abraham
Otter   (05.19.07)
Excellent letter to the editor. And the amazing thing is that this is not an Islamic newspaper. It's an American newspaper, an American journalism institution, with plenty of resources to give decent coverage to an important conflict. To add to our amazement is the fact that this is a New York newspaper, based in a city hit by terror less than six years ago. So, it's not as if they can't afford to cover the facts, or that they don't know how to, or that they are inexperienced in terror. Still, nothing changes the attitude of the liberal media. Particularly not the facts, that's for sure. That same formula for reporting on Israel is being applied everywhere.
55. #45-Mandi. HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT ?
RCA ,   USA   (05.19.07)
The British deserve some respect. Some may be misinformed due to the BBC. Eventually, they will come around. They just have first to finish with tea. No matter how you look at it, sooner or later there is going to be a very damp bloodbath. I really don't know anyone in a rush to get there. When the time comes, and when the chips are down, the British know how to lay it on the line. They will be there with all of us. There are few others I would rather fight beside than the British . I say this as an American.
56. No news about the Sderot attacks in UK
Nannette ,   London, UK   (05.19.07)
There's no news, because the lazy and inept do and so's who earn a huge amount of money to get these stories in the British media, are doing nothing. They sit back and wait for people to phone them, and haven't got the guts or chutzpah to build up a network of friends in the media. We have friends, but the people working for the Jewish community do next to nothing,

The Limeys are ok, so long as they don't surrender to randomly passing Iranian ships.
