We will use moderation in the name of God and thus we will die in the name of God. I always thought that God wanted his earthlings to live and love. I must have been mistaken as you Your Excwellency are infallible.

The Pope was aged 6 in 1933 , and since then brainwashed . As many or even most of the boys he went to the hitlerjugend . What do you expect from such an education ? You have to know that some of those "children " were so extreme , that some of them even denounced their parents for anti-nazi behaviour and thinking .

18. The same old moral equivalence
Carl ,   Indianapolis, USA   (05.20.07)
"Both of you, stop the violence" I wouldn't expect anything more from him. Remember, a pope once welcomed Arafat.

If to be a thief is to be born Israeli, you need to look up the definition of the word thief, and you need to look up the history of Israel.
20. Pope Benedict
NYC Girl   (05.20.07)
Doesn't he realize that the Israelis have shown more restraint than any other country would have under the circumstances? In fact, I can guarantee His Holiness that if the U.S. had come under a constant barrage of rockets from Canada, we would have flattened half the country by now.
21. I don't agree with most f the bloggers
Drumgoole ,   Newark, NJ   (05.20.07)
What is going on? The Pope issues a call for the end to violence, blames the Palestinian rocket barrage for the resultant Israeli retaliation and responders critize and condemn the Pope.
22. I agree with #21. Most talkbackers here
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (05.20.07)
have a permanent martyr complex. That said, I really can't blame the average Israeli for feeling besieged and persecuted, but they should really try a little harder to let the scales drop from their eyes and see the unjaded facts as presented. To not do so really does nothing for their cause.
23. Oh, Atilla!!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (05.20.07)
You are embarrassing me!!
24. #s 21 and 22: Why I am disappointed in the Pope
Steve ,   USA   (05.20.07)
I don't have a permanent martyr complex. The Pope issued a call for moderation on the part of Israel. He may as well have condemned Israel for defending herself, just like the U.S. State Department does. I expect better from a man of God than moral equivalence and neutrality in the face of a monstrous evil. Pope Pius XII did the very same thing during the second world war. He remained neutral. He could not bring himself to condemn the evils of Nazism by name. He could not bring himself to publicly condemned Hitler by name. He could not bring himself to condemn the Nazi murders of millions of Jews . He could not bring himself to condemn evil or speak forthrightly and plainly. He couched his words in eliptical, vague, diplomatic language when a good bold rebuke was needed. Same holds true with his successor today. He equally condemns both sides; both the perpetrator of violence and bloodshed and the victim: Sedrot.
25. I agree Steve, that the Popes have never
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (05.21.07)
made a strong stand on a wide number of events in the world in the effort to remain neutral when a strong unequivocal stand was needed. That said, the Pope here is making a EFFORT to point out that the Pali's are the ones at fault. I have also read that France offered during the Lebanon war to back Israel in the UN if she handed Syria it's head in payment for it's efforts in world terror. Not that Olmert took advantage of the offer or the readers here realize that France TRIED to give you all a hand . Had the offer been accepted the French wouldn't be in south Lebanon catching hell for not stopping the Hezi's from rearming. (Olmert refused the offer to do it himself so blame him alone) What you read here is too many readers seeing only the deeds not done and blaming others for missed opportunities. Now I've made my statement here, hopefully passing blame where it lays, among all parties, while standing wholly behind Israel's right to live in peace.... not that that will stop someone from saying I didn't go far enough.
26. Pope are you God? if not stop acting and dressing like one
