1. Another Crazy Biased bigoted Idiot
Semsem ,   New York, USA   (05.21.07)
So the Jews must "abide with International Law" but the Arabs are allowed carte blanche to commit murder. Typical. Another crazy bigoted idiot.
2. Let him talk
New Yorker ,   New York   (05.22.07)
The ones who manufacture Qassams, launch them at Israeli targets, the crowds that cheer the Israeli dead and wounded, and those who brandish Kalashnikovs promising hell and martirdom - those are are all civilians. I'd say - maximaze their casualties. Strike them at every opportunity and mercilessly. And let the UN chief do his usual talking.
3. Had the North Koreans fired the missiles at the South
Drek from Korea ,   USA   (05.22.07)
what would this loser say?
4. Ban The Man And The UN Cesspool
Not Jewish ,   USA   (05.22.07)
So Ban the man is concerned. I wondered how long before the anti- Israel UN clowns would start running their mouths about Israel defending herself. Not breaking their routine, the Islamic dominated UN human rights council will now pass another countless resolution condemning Israel for going after their rocket launching jihadist brothers. Ban should be more concerned about Darfur and the Islamic genocide against the ethic Africans in the Sudan as well as other African nations.. The UN is also responsible for the pal terror against the Jewish nation by supporting these black hearted killers in Gaza. The UN is a cesspool of corruption and it should have been closed long ago.
5. Secretary Ban is wrong
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.22.07)
'The statement added that the UN chief recognized Israel's right to defend itself, but that he called on Israel "to abide by international law and to ensure that its actions do not target civilians or put them under risk." ' Guess what international law says no such thing. Israel does not, has not, and will not target civilians. But as for risk, that is nowhere in a single law. The Arab terrorists are responsible for any harm that comes to civilians on either side. They target civilians and hide among their own. International law states they negate the protect of their own civilians by their actions.
6. Attention: Mr. Ban
Poitcha ,   Kfar Saba   (05.22.07)
Oh for heaven's sake.....put a sock in it !!!!!
7. Israel should defy the UN like Iran does. Nothing happens.
jan   (05.22.07)
8. UN talks
colin   (05.22.07)
Does Mr Ban also feel concerned about the actions of hamas in Israel or is the usualU N comments only after Israel started act6ions to stop the firing of qassam rockets.McCormack must caution hamas against TO AVOID ANY CIVILIAN CASUALTIES when firing discrimanily at Israel.Let them both vote to wipe out the cause of these Israel actions and thereafter pass on idiotic advice.
9. UN chief
Richard-Goj ,   Amsterdam Hollland   (05.22.07)
Anti-Semitism is a disease. In the case of Ban Ki-moon it appears to be incurable
10. OK Israel, you heard him
Otter   (05.22.07)
Don't hurt people and don't damage buildings. And don't make too much noise either. And refrain yourself from swearing when being shot at. Other than that, by all means, you have the right to defend yourselves.
11. Banny Boy
JG ,   US   (05.22.07)
Hello Ban, I am looking forward to when your buddy Kim Jong-il starts launching some missiles toward Seoul. Then I wonder what Kofi Annan would have said.................................................
12. Two wrongs don't make a right.
Peter Morris ,   New Zealand   (05.22.07)
Looking at the casualty figures actually its one wrong versus 20 wrongs. Its Israel who just never gives up always targetting something. Not expecting Palestinians to retaliate shows total naivety. Stop killing Palestinians or else stop complaining when Palestinians retaliate.
13. Ban-Ki and his uninformed opinions
EGW ,   vancover canada   (05.22.07)
I'm afraid, that, unlike the great pro-Israel, or at least fair, expectations of Mr. Ban, he has descended into the Arab pit. He is bestowing equivalency, the last refuge of a guy who's sitting on the fence. All he'll get is a sore backside.
14. Mr. Ban, what a SHAM
David ,   USA   (05.22.07)
He is "deeply concerned" by what Israel does in order to defend itself. But for the palestinians nonstop firing of rockets that did cause civilian casualties, his comment was only "unacceptable". WHAT A SHAM !!!
15. Calm down everyone
Korem ,   New York, USA   (05.22.07)
Though he is the UN General Secretary, Ban Ki-Moon doesn't represent the cesspool that is the UN in his own statements. Clearly he is taking the "blame every side" approach so he won't be criticized for saying nothing and theoretically not be accused of bias, but he is not an enemy of Israel like Kofi Annan was. Kofi Annan would not mention the Qassams. If you want to complain about the UN letting nations like Syria in the humans rights council or kicking the US off, and raping little Congolese children while screaming about Israeli "evil," that's one thing, but don't direct the attacks on Ban Ki-Moon.
16. moon slept through the attacks on Israel
dante ,   uk   (05.22.07)
now, when Israel takes measures to protect itself, moon wakes up. moral cretin.
17. Palestinians have right to defend themselves & liberate
PB ,   USA   (05.22.07)
their country from Israeli occupation. For the UN, Palestinians never expected the UN to liberate their country for them, they are gonna do it themselves, regardless of what it takes to do so.
18. Moonban!
israeli ,   israel   (05.22.07)
19. #3
israeli ,   israel   (05.22.07)
he would probably find a way to blame Israel.
20. I notice that Secretary Ban waited until we shot back
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.22.07)
So tell us Secretary Ban, how come you have been silent during the hundreds of rocket attacks? Why is it "completely unacceptable" now, but for the prior months you said nothing? Why is your 'concern of Palestinian infighting, saying he hoped the present ceasefire would hold and calling on the Palestinian Authority to "take the necessary steps to restore law and order, and for all factions to abide by the ceasefire." ' Only expressed after we finally returned fire? You have as much credibility as Kofi Anon, Jimmy Carter, Nelson Mandela and the rest of the racists.
21. International opinion based on immature humanistic
izzy d   (05.22.07)
culture that is not equipped to deal with this situation. it seems that a scenario in which diplomacy is not a viable option is so far from their fantasy based utopian "world peace" that all they are capable of doing is standing dumbstruck like a kindergarten teacher in an 8th grade Bronx classroom (no this is not a movie) how about asking Israel to get the dirty work finished as quickly as possible while subtly thanking us for doing what they don't have the guts to do?
22. The UN Secretary General doesn't know international law.
sk ,   USA   (05.22.07)
"The statement added that the UN chief recognized Israel's right to defend itself, but that he called on Israel "to abide by international law and to ensure that its actions do not target civilians or put them under risk." Israel is NOT obligated to avoid actions that put "civilians" under risk. This is a flat out lie (which moon knows perefectly well). Israel is, AT MOST, obligated to avoid deliberately targeting civilians. But who counts as a "civilian"? What happens when no uniforms are worn by the armed forces of the PA (which is against international law), making it impossible to distinguish civilian from combatant? I say, though, that the problem is international law. It is time to return to WW2 doctrine in fighting totalitarianism. If it's good enough for Dresden or Hiroshima, it's good enough for Gaza.
23. ban of UN
colin   (05.22.07)
Talk Talk Talk. Go learn the law before you talk. AND CAUTION THE ARABS TO TAKE ALL ACTIONS when running from the slaughter they wil receive.Which civilians ??arab or israeli???Ban stop being anti Israel anti semetic and start doing your job.
24. 12 Peter Morris and 17 PB
Korem ,   New York, USA   (05.22.07)
12- Actually its one Israeli per 6 Palestinians, even by B'tselem figures, not 1-20. Also, most of the "1"s on Israel's side are civilians, with a small minority, maybe 20%, being soldiers. Most of the "6"s, about 60-ish%, are combatants. But regardless, casualty figures don't justify Qassam attacks. It's strange that you pop up out of nowhere, apparently not having kept up with the past 3 week shelling of Sderot by Hamas during which Israel did absolutely NO retaliation- no airstrikes, no nothing. Israel's targeted airstrikes of the Hamas cells responsible is the retaliation. Continued Hamas attacks, which started without provokation and now continue in "response" to those responding to them, is not retaliation. You should stop complaining when Israelis retaliate. And another thing that irks me- you complain about Israel always "targeting something." Well, maybe you always have to target the leaders of a terrorist group which have embedded themselves into a population when that group is launching a war against you using AKs, molotovs, suicide bombs, and Qassams. If your neighbor sent his dog to keep biting you, and one day you went to the neighbor to complain, would you like it if an outside observer said "you should stop always complaining to your neighbor, only then will he leave you alone"? 17- Ok. Now give me one way, just one, that Hamas' Qassams are helping to liberate Palestine. Actually, how about giving me one reason they are NOT causing the Israeli presence in the territories to continue prolonged in the first place.
25. No UN condemnation of lebanese artillery fire ...
Bernard Ross ,   st. anns bay,jamaica   (05.22.07)
...on palestine refugee camp. The usual double standard obtains only because Israel allows it and caters to it. Israel is at fault for entertaining these ridiculous condemnations. Israel is at war and should act accordingly.
26. Halo Barney, Talk is cheap, Now get up and Walk
john ,   nz   (05.22.07)
27. Ban- Ki- moon
ben ,   singapore   (05.22.07)
Moon is making statement for records purposes, he has to say something to justify his position at the UN. Other then that what else he could do? The UN staff diplomatic and no diplomatic are the left over legacy of Kofi Annan. The UN is a non-funtioning body.I need no mention the UN action team over the Dafur Children. The cases is closed for the Good of the United nations at the expense of the Children. The UN has no power that it cant even do anything to Iran.Israel should not care about this United Nations comments. It has no impact at all. Israel could very well wipe the Gaza terrorist on thier own. I wonder waht is this Ban Ki moon talking about intenational law. Iran couldnt care a "S" about the UN ! Why should Israel be dictated or need even to consider the decisions or approval of the UN. The UN will never be a able body to enforce any International Law among nations on this earth. The Member countries enjoy this as blessinga and a blessings in disguise. The ineffective UN is a benefit for the law breaking nation i.e eniviromental issues. Applying the same, they need the Israeli- Pal Crisis more then to solve it. So what International Law is Ban Ki Moon talking about ? What has he got to Caution Israel about "civilian casualities", as though he dosent know that the Gaza Terrorist are the real murderers who has been killing the Israeli People. Moon continues the legacy of Kofi Annan. This is another case of self-interest- keep the job and retire rich with the perks under counter and over the counter. What a DRAMA this UN BUnCH TOO !
28. Not a word from the UN, until Israel takes action
John ,   Raleigh, NC   (05.22.07)
Months of Kassims from Gaza, Hebos rearming while the UN does and says nothing. UN forces threaten to shoot down IDF jets, the UN calls for a unilateral withdrawal from Samaria. Now the UN is upset because you chose to fight back! Well, wup-de-dee. The UN is nothing but an Islamic apologist. When is Israel going to ignore their perpetual jawboning? For if you do not, the UN only action will be to sing a short benediction and cast a flower on the sea in your memory. I am very confident they will screw-up even this. But, you will still be gone. Wake up O Israel.
29. HYPOCRITES-UN Ignore HORRENDOUS Islamic Abuse in Nigeria
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (05.22.07)
WorldNetDaily.com Crackdown on Christians could go nationwide Fears raised that Islamic law will expand under new president May 5, 2007 Christians in Nigeria, who make up about half the population, are expressing fears Islamic law already being enforced in northern states will expand nationwide with the inauguration this month of a new "devout Muslim" president, according to a report from the Voice of the Martyrs... As a result, Christians have lost basic rights such as having a location to meet and meeting there, officials have confirmed. As WND has reported, Muslim rioters in Nigeria in 2006 were incensed over cartoons of Muhammad published in Denmark, and more than 130 Christians in the Nigerian cities of Maiduguri and Onitsha were slaughtered. The reports documented six children burned to ashes in front of their father, VOM said. WND also has reported nearly 1,000 homes of Christians and many churches have been destroyed in those regions, and documentation of Islamic law is everywhere. "If you go around villages, you will see people missing one hand or one foot," explained Rev. Obiora Ike. "Do you think that's the result of an illness? That is the result of sharia law." More than 10,000 Christians have been martyred in the region since the Islamic law was imposed in the region in 1999... "There is persecution of converts from Islam to Christianity, destruction of churches, discrimination against Christians and denial of admission of Christian students in public schools, to name a few," he said. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55544
30. Peter Morris -- Congratulations
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (05.22.07)
You've just earned the right to have a landfill named after you. At least Israel does target their weapons instead of firing indiscriminately at schools and hospitals. You decide who is wrong by the casualty figures. If the PA didn't steal all the money from it's people they could of invested into infrastructure and defence, and the casualty figure would be higher for Isrealis. Just because Israel has created a prosperous advanced country doesn't mean they are in the wrong when attacked by cavemen. They have the right to defence. Sorry if their guns are bigger and better.
