3. step #1
israeli   (05.22.07)
This is looking all too much like the lebanon war... first all the war drums beating from the israeli govt... I remember Peretz and Olmert saying hezbollah will be destroyed, nasrallah will remember their names, etc. Then they realised it would be no walk in the park and they decided to create a buffer zone up to the Litani The situation so far in gaza is looking the same.. constant aerial bombardment, no ground troops, no effect. Olmert, stop trying to take the easy way out... get 20,000 troops on the ground in gaza, take control of the philadelphi route, destroy all tunnel systems.. assasinate all hamas members both political and militant Enough of the aerial attacks, they have lost their shocking effect and only endanger palestinian civilians and bring more international pressure for israel to stop its missions before the goals are completed. We need pinpoint attacks with ground troops in order to minimize civilian casualties. Not only will this secure israel, but a job well done in gaza might give the Israeli public some reason to support the current govt. Make this a summer hamas will remember.
4. Being a Good Christian
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CA USA   (05.22.07)
Fear of increased attacks from the West Bank, security zone in the northern Gaza Strip, sea water canal at the Philadelphia Corridor, confusion galore on Israel's part. Do they have the foggiest idea of what they are doing, or their goals? Hamas has GRAD missiles and Katys..so what's the point of all this? Constant forays into the W. Bank (Hamas is not strong there) have produced nothing, except a few captured prisoners (to be released per some "deal"). Israel is a mess, while the Lebanese Army takes matters into it's own hands., the Saudis slice off heads, Egypt has no tolerance for home grown insurgents, and Jordan executes people they disapprove of. Poor Israel, trying to be good Christians.
5. Heres a simpler cheaper and easier idea
(05.22.07)
Declare all electricity and water shut off. Then if this still continues declare all Shekel bank notes in Gaza and the West Bank void and ill tender. Then if that doesn't work, theres always heavy artillery.
6. Please, USA, Please?
Judy Y   (05.22.07)
Please Americans, give the government permission to order effective defense to protect its citizens. They are waiting for your instructions. And so are the citizens under fire. Still waiting.....
7. now you want to go back in huh?
Yisraeli   (05.22.07)
You freakin aholes. What happened to the mantra of I dont want to send my sons in gaza to protect those settlers? So now you see how important they were in the first place. How they were THE buffer zone and on the front line. But no you destroyed them and their beautiful towns and livlihood. Do you realise it would be poetic justice if Ashkelon, Asdod and Tel Aviv get bombed daily from gaza for your sheer stupidity? Israel has yet to pay the full price for their treachary of Gush Katif. Think about it all, its all just mind-blowing how stupid Israel is and yet one of the most intelligent on the globe. A paradox.
8. Am not clear on that last sentence
EGW ,   vancouver canada   (05.22.07)
Hamuda Shatiwi (which sounds very like the scatological " S**t Wee-wee") was ASSASSINATED" ???What is meant by this. Does this mean that he was murdered by his own people,. Because= I assume sincerely, that being "knocked off" by the IDF isn't an assassination, but a well deserved retribution.!!
9. YNET chats with senior al-Aqsa official???
(05.22.07)
Did you offer to pick up his lunch? Do you go to the movies together frequently? What the hell do you have relationships with terrorists for? Rather than calling him for quotes, why don't you give his info to the IDF so they can put a bullet in his brain?
10. And then what?
David L.   (05.22.07)
So the IDF creates a security zone. Not only this will not prevent the Palestinians from firing rockets from densely populated areas (such as Jabalya), but what will the IDF do once there? Stay in the zone and sustain constant attacks? Rapidly, the situation will become unbearable and, sooner or later, they will be forced to withdraw.
11. yes,cause it worked so well in lebanon...
idan ,   haifa, israel   (05.22.07)
it's time for IDF to think outside the box. i'm seeing the pictures of shells being fired into gaza and IAF bombing down terror infrastructure and talking about how "soon" they will send in troops and it's the same timetable as it was last July. stop repeating the same mistakes and do somthing new. have we learned nothing?
12. kıLL ALL HAMAS BASTARDS LEADERS
mıhaele jewısh boy ,   turkey   (05.22.07)
why government dont want to hıt HAMAS?
13. Eureka I suggested this a year ago
Sam WEinstein ,   USA   (05.22.07)
Eureka I suggested this a year ago, ok how about doing this and shutting off Gaza's power.
14. Also needed - a buffer between Gaza and Egypt
Lemmings Hotline ,   San Diego usa   (05.22.07)
15. How many times have we seen...
Hiram ,   Tel Aviv   (05.22.07)
Olmert going to Sderot, sympathizing with the residents ? How many times have we heard our so called "foreign affair minister" saying that the situation was unbearable ? How can she say that since we are bearing it...day in , day out, and the government still applies the same tepid approach ? The only solution to deter the terrorists ( Hamas ) is simple : using same methods as they do . There is NO real solution in the area as long as religious extremists will be running after power and control with the support of "foreign nations" so lets play with the same deck of cards, and for a while let's forget about tolerance.
16. And then, WHAT
Glenn ,   Canada   (05.22.07)
A buffer zone is a step forward. But then, what? Gaza is an unsolvable problem as it is. It's an ailing, stunted society at best, one that never had the chance to develop and mature. It was killed by hate, greed, corruption, and complete lack of civility. Without political culture, infrastructure, or a desire for peace, it cannot become a viable country. So, Israel, go back to the drawing board - without the Americans breathing down your neck, and think long term. Decades into the future. Centuries into the future. Retake Gaza. Gazans must be disarmed and then reabsorbed by other Arab countries. Offer economic cooperation deals with the Arabs. Make the US snap out of its infatuation with the Saudis and ask them to apply real pressure on the Arabs to absorb this population. How to retake Gaza? React to each act of violence by pushing the population back. All the way to Egypt if necessary. If they suddenly become peaceful and cooperative, then great! Israelis and Palestinians can begin a dialogue for peace. If not, show them that there are consequences to violence. That is the solution. For a worsening of this nightmare, Israel can replay Lebanon and be talked into allowing UN forces into Gaza, which would mean nothing less than protection for "militants" so that they can train and rearm as they please while Israel loses its right to retaliate. In the meantime don't waste a moment and show the world, constantly, what it's like to live nextdoor to those people. Get the PR maching well oiled and working overtime.
17. A very good move
Daniel ,   Israel   (05.22.07)
A good move, go ahead as soon as possible, cut all Palestanians from these areas. There is no better solution than this.
18. Return troops to Gaza is return to futility
Paqid 16 Netzarim ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (05.22.07)
If the "security zone" were initiated and maintained as a "no man's land" boots *stationed* on the ground would be technically feasible for a short while (only) -- and a disaster undermining world support of Israel. While Israel's interests, not world opinion, must dictate our actions, world opinion cannot be excluded from an intelligent formulation of what is in Israel's interests. Realism is in Israel's interest. Religious fanaticism that denies reality is not in Israel's interests. There is no suggestion from Israel's leaders or the IDF that there is *any* intention of making the "security zone" a "no man's land." That translates to return to suicide bombers, women suicide bombers, children throwing rocks and Molotov Cocktails, Arab snipers hiding behind women and children shields again and, no doubt, eventually child suicide bombers. Only an idiot would return to Gaza for more than a cleansing foray. Punishing can be done more effectively from the air. Our leaders just haven't had the courage *and* stamina to be ***relentless*** about it. Arabs not only in Gaza and the Shomron, but Khizb-Allah in Levanon, Syria, al Qaida and Iran are all banking on Israel having no defense against Lebanon-War style rocket barrages except a ground invasion. Not only for Gaza, but for security against Levanon, Syria, Iran and al Qaida, Israel must demonstrate that we can defeat such rocket barrages without sending our troops into Muslim meat grinders especially prepared for Israeli ground invasions they count on forcing us into. We have the capability to inflict however greater punishment is required to dissuade Muslims from launching rockets at us. Our problem is that our leaders have been afraid to do two things in combination: [1] pull the trigger that inflicts a multiple of whatever we have absorbed (no more empty buildings and blowing holes in empty fields or moving sand dunes) and [2] continue pulling the trigger ***relentlessly*** (that means no letting up periodically like we've always done) **until there is a permanent and comprehensive peace settlement.** NO let-up, ever-ever for ANY reason whatsoever, one instant before that. We should use the Arab tactic of "hudna" against them. We should offer a "hudna" at least daily. Of course, we should pay only lip service to it like the Arabs do while not diverging from the ***relentless*** prosecution of the war as described by Major-General (res.) Yaakov Amidror (below) until there is a permanent and comprehensive peace settlement. http://www.jcpa.org/JCPA/Templates/ShowPage.asp?DBID=1&LNGID=1&TMID=111&FID=442&PID=0&IID=1483 For every bus of ours that they blow up we must blow up seven of their buses -- filled with their people; not empty buses. For every restaurant or mall or whatever that they blow up, we must retaliate sevenfold. For every rocket they launch at us, we must launch seven rockets at them to inflict seven times the killing that they intended to inflict on us -- whether or not their rocket actually killed anyone. Inflicting pain on Israel must become **unbearable** for them; a lesson in deterrence among all Arabs and Muslims. In the long run, that will result in LESS, not more, casualties on both sides. It is the intellectually-challenged who oppose getting this conflict solved, by dissuading our attackers, so that peace can finally reign and both Arabs and Israelis can turn their swords into plow blades. Israeli Jewish newspaper not publishing candlelighting times on Yom Shishi is a disgrace to Israel.
