1. reelected?
Keren ,   SP-Israel   (05.29.07)
I've heard the parliament in Siria is closed for more than 5 months and that dictatorship is the rule! How it comes reelected by the people?
2. He will be replaced very soon by a military solution
Muslim   (05.29.07)
3. Great shot of the chinless wonder voting
Miketrix   (05.29.07)
Levity in the morning is best.
4. There's a surprise...
(05.29.07)
5. Very Funny Article.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.29.07)
Is this an example of "one man, one vote"? Basically, only Assad voted. And these liars can present this as "democracy" with a straight face. If anything should convince you that talks with Syria are worthless, this "referendum" is it. Only fools would advocate dealing with a regime of gangsters & thugs.
6. 2.38%
Jeffrey ,   USA   (05.29.07)
Assad to Defense Minister: Find those 2.38% that didn't vote for me and OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!
7. Silly AFP. Don't you mean, "Assad STEALS a 2nd term"?
Zvi   (05.29.07)
LMAO "multi-party politics" these guys are clowns. CLOWNS.
8. Peace
William ,   London, Canada   (05.29.07)
Would have been more news if he lost. It was a rigged vote. Israel made peace with Jordan and Egypt which are also police states. It would be nice if Assad was overthrown and a democratic state replaced him. That's what they hoped for Iraq. Didn't work out as planned.
9. #1 and thickness
Rustum ,   London, UK   (05.29.07)
For someone who holds ugly opinions on most topics to do with the Middle East, I'm surprised by your total ignorance regarding Syria. You didn't even know that they were holding elections? Shame.
10. #9 Rustum
Zeev ,   Haifa   (05.29.07)
"Elections". You forgot " ".... ;). I know you are in love with Asad and Syrian "democracy".
11.  Is there such a thing as term of office in the Arab world?
Mladen Andrijasevic ,   Beer Sheva   (05.29.07)
Please name the last time an Arab head of state left office because his term expired . Apparently, they only leave office if they die in office or they get deposed . Olmert's zero support ratings is no fun either but we have NO DOUBT that sooner rather than later he will leave office.
12. rust dumb is full of bs
haim ,   mtl canada   (05.29.07)
if u call tht elections then u dont know wht u talking about shame on u hamor
13. #9 al-Rustum: Pot, meet kettle.
Chatich   (05.29.07)
"For someone who holds ugly opinions on most topics to do with the Middle East..." As always, the sheer irony of your foul writing is only exceeded in magnitude by the obvious hatred of Jews that flows from your vile words.
14. To Ynet editors
Frank ,   Canada   (05.29.07)
Stop publishing BS: Assad has not been reelected. He won a fake election against himself. Some may give him some credit for this achievement since the serial loser Shimon Peres would lose such an "election".
15. What about Palestine?
Israelis Dectators   (05.29.07)
Sooo strange, you Israelis are very unstable in opinions, when there was a true democracy and elections that the whole world witnessed, in Palestinian terrretories, you refused its results and to deal with the elected gov't!!!! and now, this... and you elected the foolish Olmert, and now tyou don't want him.... strange people, you will stay abandoned for ever cuz you are stupid people.
16. Yeah.Saddam also got 99% votes in last election B4 execution
Alan ,   SA   (05.29.07)
Lets see if there will be another one after HARIRI TRIAL
17. #12 and use of the word "hamor"
Rustum ,   London, UK   (05.29.07)
If you think for a second I don't understand Hebrew, then think again and try and refrain from insulting me. I have no opinions on the Syrian elections. If you were to read my post, you would notice that I was drawing attention to #1's ignorance of current affairs in her new neighbouring country. Do try and read, and do try and refrain from using animal terminology to describe me. It's not amusing in Canada, and it's not amusing in the UK to use a foreign language to insult someone thinking in your superior fashion that I will not understand. I also believe it's against YNET's rules to use insulting language such as the word Donkey in Hebrew to in an ad hominem attack. Now - do you have anything to add to the subject? Or just more insults?
18. Rustum : London
leon ,   Grand Rapids USA   (05.29.07)
No one knew they were having "elections". Not even those who" voted".
19. No 11: Lebanon, is the answer to ur question dear !

haim ,   mtl canada   (05.29.07)

22. Assad Reelected
roxy ,   Israel   (05.29.07)
Since he is a dictator anyway, who was going to run against him any how... and if someone was going to run against him, he probably would have been murdered anyway. Syria is a dictatorship, where anyone who goes against Assad is murdered, so how is this a reelection if one has no choice in whom to vote for?
23. Rustum, why to pick fights?
Isragirl   (05.29.07)
You know, I always appreciate your comments, even when I disagree, but don't you have anything better to do than to start Internet fights? It's kind of sad...
24. YNET CENSORS
(05.29.07)
IS it my imagination or you've started blocking Attila's posts? It's about time! Thank you!
25. Who was his opposition? What a joke
freejay ,   Israel   (05.29.07)
26. Syria 2007 = USSR 1981
Isragirl   (05.29.07)
A hilarious article. It should be in the humor section
27. #23 and #13
Rustum ,   London, UK   (05.29.07)
I do not come here to pick fights - when when supercilious idiots refer to me as "hamor" - should I just smile and say to myself that Mr Mavvet of Mtl has a great sense of humour? Now let's get back to the issue and leave the personal attacks on me out of the discussion.
28. Rustum: Don't Trustum
(05.29.07)
29. LOL!!! What a joke
D ,   Israel   (05.29.07)
30. #27, you're right!
Chatich   (05.29.07)
An apology from Haim WOULD be appropriate, but since real donkeys can't read there's little point in saying sorry to them.
