Levitcius 18 is mixed with Moral, civil and ceremonial laws however "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." is clearly a MORAL law. Ceremonial & Civil laws may of been abolished from a Christian perspective however the MORAL laws remain. For reasons that I've never seen adequately explained, homosexuals (in the US, at least) tend to be more affluent than the norm. Maybe it's because they tend to be more intelligent, or harder-working, or more financially responsible. In any case, homosexuals as a group are welcomed by local business groups and tourism promoters because they represent...money. All but the most benighted bigots--such as the ones quoted in this article--welcome the cash dropped by vacationing gays. Is Jerusalem really an exception to the rule?

If you had done your homework, you would have known that Israel is one of the most gay friendly countries in the world, and that Tel Aviv has a thriving and vibrant gay subculture. You would have also known that it is the one of the only countries in the Middle East to respect gay rights and allow for unregistered cohabitation for same sex couples in the form of common law marriage, something that is not even enjoyed in the whole of the US or Italy . It was the third country in the ENTIRE WORLD to recognize anything similar (only after Denmark and Norway) to same sex civil unions. Gays serve in the highest echelons of the government, are not discriminated from serving in the military, and are prominent in the arts. Palestinians who are openly gay are shunned by their families, and often face persecution, torture and death. They are then forced to seek refuge in Israel where they are protected. For G-d's sake, Dana International won Eurovision!! Just because a high ranking politician makes some bigoted remarks does not mean that all of Israel is some sort of homophobic, hateful entity. I seem to recall an incident a few months ago in which members of the Italian parliament clashed over the display of a pro-gay exhibit. Would you say the same thing about the Italians? If you want to criticize specific politicians please feel free to do so, but please refrain from making monolithic statements about entire countries (although when it comes to Israel, I know that this is the norm in WE, no matter how "liberal" they claim to be).
