2. no solution, until we do what the USA did in Japan
Guy   (05.29.07)
otherwise we can close shop and go back to the gettos if we are lucky.
3. Random Rocket Return-fire
Ima Bleever ,   Anytown USA   (05.29.07)
If the world does not condemn the micro-nation of Gaza for warring against Israel using rockets, why would it be opposed to Israel doing the same to Gaza with the same? Israel should "play stupid" and say, "Gosh, we thought you just said by your silence over the Qassams, that random rocket attacks against an enemy are okay. So we went for it." What if Israel built an array of automated rocket launchers and stationed them at all trouble spots? What if these things fired automatically in semi-random directions in the GENERAL direction of any incoming fire? What if they detected that fire automatically without human intervention? What if someone shooting at the array caused it to unload itself into the nearby enemy town to "preserve its effectiveness"? What if the warheads were filled with pig fat? What if Israel shot meddlesome media jerks like every other country that is TRULY believed evil? What if Israel asked all these questions at a world wide media gathering instead of acting ashamed for just existing? What if all Israelis were trained to use ninja throwing stars? What if they were all shaped like deadly sharpened Stars of David? What if every citizen of Israel were permitted to carry them secretly all over their body? What if no Muslim would carry such a weapon because it honored their enemy's flag? What if Israelis did something other than just duck? What if Israel accused America of human rights violations the next time America does it to Israel? What if the people of Israel realized that it is America's PEOPLE who support it, not just our two-faced government? What if the neighbors of areas where rocket attacks originated were actually HELD CULPABLE and brought up on charges of collusion or even conspiracy? What if everyone on Earth were held responsible for sitting around with their thumb up their butt while some guy out their living room window fires a rocket at somebody? What if Israel forced THOSE people out of their houses (instead of Israeli settlers) and burned those houses to the ground with all their things in them? What if Israel DEMANDED that Lebanon do this, and Jordan, and Syria, and Egypt, etc.? What if Israel acted for one day like they all LYINGLY SAY you act always? What if Israel made the Palestinians explain how they creamed the Canaanites? What if Israel gave all Palestinians a DNA blood test to find out who they really are and deport them to that country? Nobody condemns Iran for deporting 70,000 Afghanis to an unwilling Afghanistan who cannot support them. Why should they condemn Israel for deporting 70,000 Palestinians to each neighboring country?
4. Amen, however....
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (05.29.07)
This PLO (Peretz-Livni-Olmert) gov't will never do this. The Israeli voters are also to blame in this matter, for having chosen officials who are entirely DEVOID of the values of Torah and of Zionism.
5. #1....
Russ ,   Ramat Gan   (05.29.07)
Isi Leibler's ravings show a major lack of originality. He should confine his articles to the JPost and its below average readers. What are you doing Ynet? but then what he states was tried last year, and has been the standard nothing new at all "new" approach again and again. I do hope you are nice and safe over there in Canada. My thouhgts are with those still in Sderot.
6. 'Innocent Gaza civilians' is a myth created by antisemitics
Uzi ,   Haifa   (05.29.07)
and Israeli leftists. It helps the Arabs to get away with murder. An overwelming majority of Arabs support terrorism and are willing to suffer its consequences. The rest accept the oppression of the majority as a fact of life. The Gaza civilians must suffer from the consequences of the war they wage against Israel. Otherwise they will never stop.
7. Author locked in fractional perception of reality
realist   (05.29.07)
Isi sees the world in a similarly limited way as the Qassam launchers - only more violent force will solve the problem. No mention of a broader vision, of a strategic solution to the conflict with the Arabs... The world is becoming increasingly uncomfortable for those choking on a limited perspective.
8. Deterrent - Seriously Eroded
S Gilbert ,   Teaneck, NJ   (05.29.07)
The passivity and tolerance of Israel as its allows its enemies to move more and better ordnance (e.g. missles, etc.) within striking distance of its population is a sign of capitulation. A strategy of relying on 3rd parties to ensure meaningless agreements, i.e. UNFIL/Lebannon, Egypt/Gaza is a losing strategy. Similarly technology is only part of the equation in the conduct of a new kind of war; something Israel and the U.S. have yet to learn. The perfect defensive missile system has not and never will be invented - only an imperfect and hideously expensive one. Step one: Take back the Philadephi Corridor and broaden it. Shut off electric power to Gazza. Thus no import of Kassams and no ability to manufacture of them. Step two: Announce that west bank Hamas politicians in custody will receive the same treatment as Shalit: imprisonment at an unknown location, no communication, no visitations. Should Shalit be harmed, the same will be dispensed to them. Step Three: Syria must be taken care off. This is in the interest of both Israel and the US. No infiltration of foreign fighters into Iraq, no weapon transit to Lebannon, no Russian air defense missiles via Syria to Iran. The time to act is now. There's more , but space does not permit...;
9. Best Article Ever!
ne ,   switzerland   (05.29.07)
Have been a squatter on ynet for a while, I love Israel in a very passionate and emotional way. And I know that the biggest part of a problem is defining it. Well, you did a brilliant job, your article is just hitting the nail. And the solution is very simple though not very politically correct. So what? Left is good but not down to this, not down to having your next of kin qassamed at Sderot. Once again, thank you for writing and saying what you think, people call it democracy, i call it guts.
10. Couldn't Agree More.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.29.07)
I would only add that it is pointless to distinguish between Hamas & Fatah. Both groups should be targeted. A ground offensive into Gaza is not a last resort; rather, it is unavoidable. It is only a question of when.

eliyahu   (05.30.07)
Gee, aren't you the intellectual elitist! What was tried last year? An all out ground operation? Your thoughts are with those in sderot but your thought aren't helping them. It is morally disgusting to reason that a government should permit its citizens to live through rocket attacks.
12. #2 Guy, is close...
Besson ,   Little Neck, USA   (05.30.07)
We don't have to nuke them we have to occupy then disarm them then declare the land is ours for eternity.
13. A workable defense
Brent ,   Lawrence, KS   (05.30.07)
I have repeatedly read how the is "no effective defense against the Qassams". I beg to differ. The US Navy uses a system that would swat the Qassams from the sky with little difficulty. It is a 20 mm gatling gun paired with a Pulse Doppler radar and a very smart computer. The weapon can track very small targets and engage them with very high rates of fire. The system should be easily adapted to land use as the targets will be in the sky not skullking along the ground in the "ground clutter". Additionally, it should be relatively inexpensive as it is existing technology. Of course, it is likely that any spent rounds would land in Gaza, but, hey, if you shoot missiles outbound you shouldn't be surprised if something comes back inbound.
14. Qassams
Count Dracula ,   Los Angeles USA   (05.30.07)
For those old enough to remember it is interesting to recall the V2 attacts on London. There was no defense against them. Great destruction and death was the result. The solution, invasion of Europe and elimination of the launchers and crews. Not easily accomplished. The landing on the beaches of France, coupled with overwhelming air bombardment cost 100,000's of lives and untold destruction. The Qassam terror is the same except the scale. Small rockets on small targets in a small country. However the proportionality is the same. Does Israel have the capability for the invasion? Is israel willing to accept the losses? The British needed the resources of the USA, especially in the manpower required. Israel has no such resource. One must expect losses in wartime. Perhaps continued smaller losses in Sderot for an extended time is better than the certainity of much larger losses and an indeterminate conclusion resulting from a Gaza invasion.
15. total stupidity
عوفيدا الوهيم ,   kuwait   (05.30.07)
every one should remember what happened in lebanon. A war for 35 days and 110 soldiers died to rescue 2 soldiers, where are they now...???. the writer ask for tough military action... wow ...that`s easy.If this happened I would reunion the Palestinians against the invasion.the loses in soldiers will be high.the army can`t stay for a long time sooner or later will go out then the rockets will show up again.the answer for sure will not be in one word .....even if it ..........kill
16.  response #3
Steve   (05.30.07)
Well stated Sir! May I add: What if Israel acted as Ben Gurion had intended, with the fury of a people whose backs are against the wall with nowhere else to go!
17. What we want is not to destroy but to end the occupation
Kamal ,   Ejerusalem palestine   (05.30.07)
What we want is not to destroy you but to end the occupation in Gaza, the west bank and most importantly Ejerusalem...
18. To #17 Kamal, thats not what is says in your mandate
freejay ,   Israel   (05.30.07)
19. Guy's idea is OK - but expel them to Egypt first!
dudu ,   kfar sava   (05.30.07)
20. kassams
K. Smith ,   USA   (05.30.07)
take a 10mile buffer zone from Gaza. The kassam 3 only has a 10 KM range this gives Isreal and specifically Sderot about a 4 mile buffer zone from the Kassams. Gaza can give this land of their own volition or cut their electricity and water, oh and don't forgetIsrael should make their own kassams and launch them back at a 2 for 1 ratio. Why do terrorist use kassams? They are cheap tp produce and easy to produce. Making Israeli Kassams (but change the name to something like "Davids sling') will be a deterrent and supply Israeli's with jobs. Maybe Gaydamak would finance the building of the factory, in Sderot I think would be a good place for it.

You are so right in all respects. Keep up your good works
22. Yes, enough is enough!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (05.30.07)
What we've doing up to now isn't working! The rockets keep coming and they will get bigger if we don't close off the supply routes! Read what the man who used to live in Gaza says (and now actually lives in Sderot)! We are being too wishy-washy!!
23. to #17 Israel withdrew already from Gaza
andy ,   orlando,fl   (05.30.07)
Israel does not occupy Gaza, yet they are being attacked. The Palestinians cannot be trusted.Their goal is to destroy Israel.CUT OFF their electricity first then their water if they dont get the message.
24. Well done Issi...shame about your brother though
Leo ,   melbourne   (05.30.07)
& his stupid good for nothing organisation ("Ai-jac-off" as I call it)...
25. #17 Your Violent Argument is with G-D for it is G-D Who Gave
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (05.31.07)
Israel as an eternal possession to Jews and no other people. For the L-RD has chosen Jacob for Himself, Israel for His own possession... And He gave their land as a heritage, a heritage to Israel His people. Psalm 135 There NEVER was an Arab country of Palestine. Jerusalem was NEVER the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in the Jewish Bible, not once in the Koran. Man's kingdom of violence and massive idol worship of 'Power and Control' is coming to an end. The violent will not inherit the earth.
26. Regarding Kamal's comment
Warren ,   Sydney   (05.31.07)
Kamal contends that the Palestinians simply want to end the occupation in Gaza. The absurdity of this comment beggars belief, yet the world buys this rubbish from the Palestinians as if Gaza was still occupied
27. Palestinians rid themselves of leaders?
Arianah ,   Chicago, USA   (06.01.07)
How dumb is this statement? Very. When elected officials and any man of stature is being picked off like flies by the IDF (along with their families), how can you even begin to even incinuate control of any kind by the people of Palestine of their government? Whatever governmental structure they are able to create is always shortlived and it's members assassinated within months by the IDF and their goons. The problem is not the Palestinian people and their crude rocket attacks. It is Israel's animalistic behavior that leads to such things. It is like shooting a man in your house and then charging him for the carpet cleaning bill. What did you expect?
28. Ta Arianah: Hamas chose this war
Joseph Kaufman ,   Sunnyvale/Jerusalem   (06.01.07)
I applaud the decision to pick off Hamas politicians and military operatives without hesitation as well as cut off electricity, water, other utilities and services to the Palestinians. You fend for yourselves with the leaders that are left. This is a fight to the death with the mentality that would wipe out Jews and there will be no compromise. Those who speak compromise with Hamas, speak the end of the Jewish State, so your propoganda goal is clear.
