As an American, I have always been a tremendous fan of the Brits with a deep respect for their people. They are one of the few great peoples in this world that have done it all, and have a rich legacy that continues to inform America and the world today. As a Jew though, I have been deeply disturbed by the change in political direction by some of their masses. In particular, I hold the BBC, an ill informed academia, and the flow of Arab terrorist money to British opinion makers, accountable for this troubling situation. I still hold out much hope for what I think is the majority of the British people on this issue of support for Israel. PM Tony Blair, from the very begining was able to see through the whole charade, even willing to forego the opposition of his own party. If stupid was just invented, this idea by UK academic associations to boycott Israeli academics because of their connection to the supposed perfidious state of Israel, looks like an effort to perfect it ! Stupid, may I remind everyone, is linked to the idea of stupor, as in "under the influence, not acting responsibly." The members of such groups have become infused in their hearts and minds with the toxins of falsehoods and calumnies against Israel, and against Jews. As a result they are not acting responsibly. It seems to me that Elizabeth Goldhirsh, a director of the Goldhirsh Foundation, is being very temperate in her allusion to the worst implications for the motivation to demonize Israel above and beyond all other nations points to a far more sinistrer and tragic purpose. I couldn't agree more. I probably wouldn't have been so mild. But she speaks prudently as a responsible member of a distinguished institution, while I write as a relatively insignificant private citizen whose hackles are raised by the flagrant injustice of these boycott actions reported by the article. Because stupidity can not usually be out argued, but those imbued with it's deleterious effects can be made to feel the consequences of their actions, I, too, urge whoever may and can to use their available means to effect a counter boycott. We may hope that some sense of fair play may bring a rescission of the current boycott. And we hope, thus raise the awareness among the UK academic groups that it is foolish to offend supporters over flagrantly prejudiced, speciously conceived, principles.
