1. Serves him right!
Nick ,   London, England   (06.01.07)
The BBC have always been biased against Israel, this has influenced many in England to think Israel is a bad country, never more apparent than in the war last summer when the hezbollah rocket fire was hardly reported, but they'd constantly show images of muslim children killed in Israeli airstrikes. I don't watch the BBC anymore. If he comes back alive then we'll never hear the end of how great the Palistinians are, he'll be on the TV for weeks and probably write a best selling book, great PR for the Palistinians, not good for Israel
2. Interview With Alan Johnston.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.01.07)
Thank you so much for kidnapping me, I'm having a wonderful time. Really, I'm not saying this because there is a gun to my head. Take no notice of the suds coming out of my ears, it's just a mild brainwashing. I didn't need much brainwashing, I was pretty much brainwashed well before the kidnapping. I have promised my captors that upon my release, I will be even more biased than before although I know that will be hard to do. All the evils of the world are the fault of the occupation, including global warming & AIDS. I spend most of my day reading the Koran & praying. No one should worry about me, as soon as the ransom is paid, my captors will release me. I will only be beheaded if absolutely necessary.
3. Poor guy, but he should have known what awaited him in Gaza
Gilly   (06.01.07)
I doubt his Arab friends had any compassion on him whatsoever.
4. Treated well+looks great on TV pal-I'd stay there ,Johnson
Alan ,   SA   (06.01.07)
5. "We the British are completely to blame"
Richard-Goj ,   Amsterdam Hollland   (06.01.07)
That 's what Alan Johnston was supposed to say on the tape. Yesterday we saw why that is right
6. sounds jlike one of alan's typical news report for the BBC
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (06.01.07)
lambasting israel and blaming everyone in the world for the palestinian self-induced state of anarchy. typical bbc "impartial" reporting from the gaza strip. glad to see he's still doing his job even though he is being held hostage by his beloved freedom fighters.
7. He makes it hard.......
Ram ,   London   (06.01.07)
..........for any rightous human being to feel sorry for him. Not because he is NOW blaming all the Palestinian's ills on Israel but his organisation ALWAYS has done so and continues to do so. It is in a sick world, that of the BBC and the UK, that the perpetrators of a crime are praised and those who have nothing to do with it are blamed.
8. BREAKING NEWS :Israel is the one who brought the ice age!
Skrew joo zionizt ,   LaLaLand   (06.01.07)
Also the dinos were all murdered by the IDF in blame of aiding the palas, the kasams are being launched by israeli children diguised as arabs to fool the world,IDF also kills the children to prove they are arabs. The London blitz as an Israeli idea and Hitler was funded by evil jews who wanted to steal the poor palas [even tho they didnt even exist yet as they were a handful of arab tribes, wonder why theres no pala language, history, etc?] land ! Heart attacks are a direct cause of the occupation and car accidents are a side effect. Israel is building the nuclear facilties at Iran and is to blame for any act of terror. Also it is Israel who invented the period
9. Good morning to you too!
Anglophobe ,   Anglia   (06.01.07)
I've had enough of Little Britain! Bad news after bad news! I check YNET this morning and what do I find? Britain at war against Israel. "'Israel behind Entebbe hijack' "BBC Gaza reporter denouncing Israel". "Britain's academics boycotting Israel"!!! Am I missing something here? Do we need this garbage from a third world country? They are the Europeans' laughing stock...!
10. PROPAGANDA
RJ ,   ENGLAND   (06.01.07)
IT WOULD NOT SUPRISE ME IF JOHNSON IS ALL PART OF THIS CHARADE....LIKE MOST BRITISH NON-JEWS THEY SIDE WITH THE PALESTINIANS AND PLACE ALL BLAME AT ISRAELS FEET....ITS ALL PROPAGANDA JUST TRYING TO GET MORE CONDEMNATION AGAINST ISRAEL...MY MESSAGE TO ALAN JOHNSON "IT WILL NOT WORK"
11. #1 and bitter comments
English guy ,   London, UK   (06.01.07)
What a stupid, bitter and inhumane comment in #1. "Serves him right!" you said. I'd like to see you stand up at the National Union of Journalists and say that and then watch as you disappear under a shower of rotten radishes. I suppose you also thought that the British sailors kidnapped by the Iranians also deserved it. In fact, perhaps you also think that the Palestinians as a whole, women and children, also all "deserve it!". By the way, it would be impossible for the BBC to show "images of Muslim children killed in Israeli airstrikes" if there were not Moslem children killed in Israeli airstrikes. Do you get the point here? Journalism reflects what is going on and is not a profession (like "political lobbying") which deals in wishful thinking and half-lies. Johnson was a great reporter - but then you probably also think that William Shirer should have been kidnapped when he was reporting from Berlin in 1939. Yes, back then also the Nazis did not like people reporting what was happening. Not good public relations, you see.
12. Sign of Life? Too Bad
Dan Friedman ,   NYC USA   (06.01.07)
Hopefully, they just needed to record this before he was sent off to meet the 72 virgins - little boys.
13. #10 Not all us Brits are the same
Nick ,   London, England   (06.01.07)
"LIKE MOST BRITISH NON-JEWS THEY SIDE WITH THE PALESTINIANS" I'm English, not Jewish but 100% behind Israel as I understand the situation. It's just the people who don't have a clue what's going on that hate Israel, you can't blame them though, they are spoon fed lies by the BBC, a corporation everyone trusts to deliver the truth. If BBC says it then it must be true! It's ironic but The Sun newspaper which used to have a poor reputation for solid news is now seems the only one which sees things from Israeli viewpoint, the right one
14. to #11 English guy, London
Jerred   (06.01.07)
Just to let you know that in Israel, we not anymore believe that the 'BBC reflects what is going on' as you said. Doyou get the point here? And the BBC of the thirties has nothing top do with todays's if you understand what I mean
15. #11 English guy London
Jerred   (06.01.07)
Did the BBC show with the same emphasis the Iraqui children massacred by British and American airstrikes, hypocrite???
16. re #11
Nick ,   London   (06.01.07)
I don't wish Johnson harm, I just know that when he emerges there will be more of the same from the BBC BBC's coverage of the war last Summer portrayed Israel as aggressors when they were defending themselves, the Israelis were living in fear, Israeli lives were lost, far less than Lenanese but still lives, the BBC failed to address this or the cause of the war. And now it's the same thing with the Palistinians, they keep firing crudely made rockets, to kill any civillian they can, in contrast Israel are trying to soley target the millitants, but when you read the BBC reports they make it look like Israel are going over to indiscriminantly kill anyone they can I wish Johnson well, I just hope maybe he can do some balanced reporting in future
17. Can I nominate him for the emmy's? END

18. #13, Nick - #11 read this!
Ram ,   London   (06.01.07)
No doubt your comments are appreciated by every Israeli and practically every Jew. On behalf of them all, I thank you. English guy #11 rightly rebukes #1 for his comments but then goes on to lose the plot. Sadly this has come to tipify the gentile Brit in the eyes of world Jewry. It should be noted that following sympathetic posts from gentiles often a deluge of appreciation follows from Jewish readers worldwide. Wouldn't you say this is a sign of how quick Jews are to grasp a friendly hand? Jews like justice and peace! All arabs could benefit immensely by extending the hand friendship to Israel instead of putting all their efforts in trying to eliminate it. . Tell that to the Brits in general and to the BBC in particular. Best regards.
19. #11 R u equating Shirer reporting on Nazis,the same as AJ .

I can understand what you are saying regarding the report of fact and pictures. Though I know that there are ways in which the press can leave out very important information that will lead to bias. For instance, a UN funded school had been shot apart by the IDF. Sounds pretty terrible right? Well the part that they didn;t report on was that there have been sniper fire for three month coming from this structure...during school hours. Here another; IDF shoots into croud of protesters injuring three PALs. The rest of the story. 3 IDF soldiers were manning a security check point as a cround of 200 PALs began to throw rocks and began to charge to the soldiers. In order to defend themselves from being rippled limb by limb (see soldier in Ramalah police station) they had to shoot warning shots in the air. As the people did not stop, they shot at their feet. Its all about the story brother. Unfortunatly if you do not want to here the whole thing, the BBC is a great show. It will really make you feel like a nice person for supporting the PALS. Unfortunaltly they do not tell the whole story. I know because I am a reader of all press in english...left, right, center. I see also what happens here in Israel first hand. Everyone has their bias and agenda. You have to read many sides to come to the truth. The BBC is a very small corner of the truth. By the way, I watch BBC to see what happens in Uganda and think it is also 100 true. Why? They are the only ones to report on Uganda in english that I see. In Israel there is Ynet, Jpost, Arutzsheva, Haaretz, ... Rember this...ignorance is a short cut to thinking. Learn as much as you can from many different sources.
22. #11 ACTUALLY ...
oferdesade ,   israel   (06.01.07)
THE BBC DID not REPORT ON ALL THE NZIS WERE DOING - ESPECIALLY NOT THE CONCENTRATION CAMPS... NOT EVEN WHEN NEWS OF THE WORLD WAS ALREADY SHOWING THOSE OH-SO-NEWS-WORTHY SKELTONS. NO, AS A MATTER OF FACT, EVEN IN THE 1990S, THE BBC ... OH ENOUNGH OF ALL THE ANTI-SEMIOTIC ACCUSATIONS, DON'T U THINK
23. British "journalism"
JPS ,   Efrat   (06.01.07)
According to #11 "Journalism reflects what is going on and is not a profession (like "political lobbying") which deals in wishful thinking and half-lies. " Funny, but that's exactly what the BBC was slammed for - unbalanced reporting that slanted the truth to meet the personal agendas of BBC reporters - especially when it comes to Israel. As for the NUJ - aren't they the organization that is boycotting Israel? Yep - real "balance" there. As we Israelis like to joke, we're happy to know that all the NUJ reporters have tossed out their computers, because of all the Israeli-developed technology in them. British journalism is an oxymoron, no?
24. #16
English guy ,   London, UK   (06.01.07)
You don't wish Johnson harm - that must be why you said "serves him right". Viscious right-wing supporters of Israel have this nonsensical belief that the BBC and Britain and our MPs are beholden to Arab interests. Absolute nonsense. Tell me - if a reporter sees Israeli rockets land on a refugee camp and kill children, should he not report it? In your small polarised world, the deaths of the goyyim obviously only count as anti-Israel propaganda. As for Johnson's reporting from Gaza, the only way a reporter could give what you called "balanced" (i.e. pro Israel) reporting, is if he or she were taking LSD or some other reality-bending drugs. Perhaps you'd be happy to read a few reports from Gaza entitled something like "In spite of having been forced to feel from their homes many times, Gazans celebrate their own expulsion by distribution tsimmes to the Israeli poor across the border." There you are - suggestion for a "balanced" report from Gaza which might fit in with your myopic view of human rights, the death of innocents and the mission of reporters to reflect what they see.
25. Rather poetic and pathetic how Johnston sings for his life.

captive reporter. I anticipate that Johnston will continue to enjoy his bonding with his captors for many more years.
27. the real reasons?
Abbas ,   GAza   (06.01.07)
First of all, the president Abbas knows where Alan and who captived him, but he can't do anything or he refused to do . why? the good question here, what's the real reasons of kidnap Alaan? iam sure there are another reason of that, contact with specialest needs of FATAH AND HAMAS to destroy the Palestinian people .
28. #24, they should report it -- but in context.
Shuki   (06.01.07)
#24, yes, they should report it. No doubt that there is much suffering going on amongst the Palestinians. But what the BBC often leaves out is the context of vicious war and a culture of martyrdom. Unfortunately it's not an easy situation to report. People want simple, linear cause-and-effect relationships... But reality just isn't that simple. Context is everything, my friend, and like most reporting outfits the BBC has a lens -- it's just a lens that many find to be rabidly anti-Israel.
29. #24 (#11)
Zeev ,   Haifa   (06.01.07)
Don't be silly when you report about ethnical conflicts over land it is extremely hard to be opbjective. The weaker side will almost automatically gain reporters' sympathy. From here on there is no objective journalism. The suffering of the strong becomes not interesting and unimportant compared to the suffering of the weak. Thus they just report the Palestinian side not showing the suffering of the Israelis. I really want that one day England faces the situation that Israel does to understand us. Hopefully with growing muslim community you will taste this medicine sooner than later.
30. Get free soon AJ, so you can stay saying the same thing
