1. The Airport Officer
ben ,   singapore   (06.03.07)
Are only dooing their job well. This is a good secutity screening procedure proved to be Effecient and Effective. So dont make a mountain out of a mole. The New York JF K is a Target and San Francisco International is also at ALERT ! SO PLEASE CORPORATE WITH THE SECURITY CHECKA AND PLEASE DONT ACCUSE THE US AIRPORT OFFICERS !
2. if you don't like security. don't visit the united states.

4. No Doc; it's Obsession-Prosecution Syndrom
observer   (06.03.07)

5. visited the United States for the first time=

she had Not visited any country
6. ALLIES
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (06.03.07)
Having lived in the USA for over fifteen years and to think that they are our allies is a big mistake. Knowing that Israel does whatever the USA tells it to do is scary. Americans have only one interest at heart, their own!! Especialy at the state department level there is a strong anti israel sentiment. Also it might be useful for the israelis to know, that there are more neonazis in the USA,then there ever were in Germany. "It is better to know ones enemies then a pretend to be friend."
7. US security
Esther ,   Israel   (06.03.07)
I have also been searched, frisked, and treated like a terrorist the last few times I visited the US. I have an Israeli passport and an American passport which was issued in Israel. I asked the woman who was checking me if there have been alerts that little old white haired ladies are planning a terrorist attack, and she told me that becuase I live in Israel, I could be a Palestinian terrorist. I was not put into a gas chamber as this woman described, but the check was humiliating and in the meantime, many suspicious looking characters passed by without being checked. I now know how the Arabs feel when they go through our checkpoints.
8. Welcome to Our World
Aaron ,   Jerusalem   (06.03.07)
I do not condone rude treatment of anybody, and I'm sure the staff in San Fran could have been kinder. Israelis haven't any clue what non-Israelis, and especially journalists, have been subject to at Ben Gurion. We've also had to go through the "gas chamber" for two years now at Erez. We are not respected doctors, but we are professionals who have been vetted by the Shin Bet, I'm sure, many times over.
9. A bit spoilt?
Semsem ,   New York , USA   (06.03.07)
I have the impression that this lady is a bit spoilt. I doubt it was because she was Israeli.
10. Why is Yed. Achr. publishing this nonsense?
Daniel   (06.03.07)
11. double standards
Andy ,   London   (06.03.07)
Well now, isnt this interesting? When foreign visitors to Israel and Israeli Arabs complain of humiliating treatment at the Israeli airport, we are told that this is necessary because of security. While security needs are no excuse for ignorant and boorish behavior of the type experienced sometimes at B-G airport, I think this explanation is largely justified and convincing. It means that I tend just to bite my tongue when I experience this. But what have we here? A nice Ashkenazi Israeli doctor having her bags searched!!! O horror upon horrors!! We cant have that!!! What sickening hysteria and hypocrisy. If others are expected to put up with (on balance justified) intrusive security checks because of security needs, then Ashkenazi Israeli doctors can damn well put up with them too where necessary, and not start invoking ridiculous and inappropriate historical analogies. You are no better than the rest of us. If security means we must sometimes put up with intrusive security checks, then so can you.
12. nothing to cry abouth !
papi ,   israel   (06.03.07)
its realy sad indead, but if I think what thousends of palestinians experience every day, you have to be very thankfull.
13. Stupid Reaction ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (06.03.07)
Or over-reaction. This woman needs a few valium. Security is security - that's the new reality we live in because of Muslim terrorists. Unfortunately, we come from the Middle-East & for Americans, there is no distinction. While I would be more suspicious of British or other European Muslims than Israelis, Americans are rightly concerned about threats as witness a new plot to attack JFK. Calling the security system a "gas chamber" says more about this woman's mental state than anything else.
14. Gas chamber
rasjie ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.03.07)
I am a child of Holocaust survivors too. Went trough the same procedure ( the air flow in the cell) in New York JFK and I have a dutch passport . It was weird but i think she exaggerated the experience. It is done for security whether you are an Israeli or any other nationality. It is a nuisance but it makes me feel better that they check so intensively and dont take it personal! Get over it already and dont immediately think it is antisemitism!! Be happy they are doing their job wether you are a doctor or a secretary there should be no difference!
15. Could this be due to some insane attempt
Debbie ,   Seattle   (06.03.07)
to deny racial profiling? See? They do that to Israeli Jews too. So they are not discriminating against Muslims. I can't see any other explanation. I really think this doctor should demand an investigation. I understand she was too much in shock to speak to a supervisor at that time, but now she ought to demand an investigation.
16. Boo Hoo
bill   (06.03.07)
If this saves lives, too bad.
17. everyone is checked in the US
jack ,   richmond   (06.03.07)
---even my 80 year old mother in law gets checked. She flies alot so her name comes up randomly frequently. Her shoes have been checked. Her fingernail clippers confiscated. Etc. On the other hand, I have been in Ben Gurion Airport, and watch all of the muslim/christian palestinians being subjected to humilating treatment while the Jewish Israelis are simply passed through. There is an old adage in the US about standing up for the rights of others because someday it will be your own rights violated. I am sure the good doctor never objects when Palestinians are strip searched and body cavity searched. No doubt she, and most Jewish Israelis, would consider that appropriate. In the US, everyone gets searched to avoid stereotyping any single group. I also remember entering a parliment building in Europe somewhere and everyone passed through an air puffer room like the one she speaks of before entering the parliment. Believe me, getting puffed by that sniffer machine is not nearly as bad as having a full body cavity search--which Palestinians go through with distressing regularity. If you want your own rights respected, stand up for the rights of others, as well.
18. do you treat Palestinians better?
ammar ,   Washington, DC   (06.03.07)
thats nothing compared to what you do to Palestinians at the checkpoints and crossings
19. stop using the holocaust to make people feel sorry for u
john ,   united states   (06.03.07)
israelies should be last to complain after all the humilliation they put arabs through in the israeli airport! and stop using the holocaust to make people feel sorry for you

"""""""could be a Palestinian terrorist"""""
22. trained in israel
sameer ,   al quds   (06.03.07)
this airport officer must be traind in israel, you remember the german female student who was nacked in tel aviv airport, and gas chambers are very easy compared to what israeli jails have.
23. I'm woundering how many proud double passport talkbackers,
(06.03.07)
we have here? where was the hiding place of their pride after the summer war on Lebanon?
24. don't blame them; they've just seen aEntebbe-Shin Bet affair
(06.03.07)
25. Now you know how palestininas feel in isreal
Palestine   (06.03.07)
26. Stupid Americans, don't know security
JPS ,   Efrat   (06.03.07)
This is a prime example of politically correct (aka-downright stupid) Americans who in the name of political correctness don't do "terrorist profiling". They think that "terrorist profiling" = "racial profiling", so they waste a tremendous amount of resources inspecting grandmas and grandpas simply because random testing is the only way not to upset the politically correct. It appears that Dr. Zilberman was selected at random, and the low-payed help isn't hired for being polite, or smart, or adept at handling visitors whose first language is not English, but rather for following simple instructions.
27. To Jack and Amar
JPS ,   Efrat   (06.03.07)
Gentlemen - you seem to omit the important detail that Palestinians are the ones who for many years were behind international airplane hijackings. Nor is it Jews who blow themselves up on airliners or fly them into American buildings. Read our lips - if the Palestinians stop supporting suicide bombings, then the roadblocks can come down. If Islamic fanatics around the world stop trying to kill as many non-Muslims as they can, then we can all get on airplanes without getting our butts checked for bombs. Jack - don't forget that your tax money pays for the useless search of your 80 year old mom. Every time she's checked, it means that somebody who is more likely to be a terrorist is NOT being checked. Here in Israel we consider that to be an endangerment to the public at large, whose protection is paramount.
28. Let's be hysterical
Ilan ,   Ariel   (06.03.07)
In the end it is just a security check at an airport. Not pleasant, but unfortunately necessary.
29. This lady is crazy
trumpeldor ,   eurabia   (06.03.07)
This urologist should visit a shrink By the way, a terror cell willing to destroy JFK airport was arrested yesterday...
